The Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II (Warthog) is a single-seat, twin turbofan engine, straight wing jet aircraft developed by Fairchild-Republic for the United States Air Force (USAF). It is commonly referred to by the nicknames "Warthog" or "Hog", although the A-10's official name comes from the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, a World War II fighter-bomber effective at attacking ground targets. The A-10 was designed for close air support (CAS) of friendly ground troops, attacking armored vehicles and tanks, and providing quick-action support against enemy ground forces.

I've watched A10s come into an impact area and rip things apart. I was calling in some indirect fire weapons and had to cease fire. These are amazing and the best close air support that the U.S. has.
not anymore. drones with smartbombs are cheaper, safer and more effective.
I'd be a lousy A-10 pilot, my whole unit would hate me. Why? Because I'd make the "brrrrrrt"-sound of the gun all the time.

I am a US Navy Veteran Flight Controls System Technician, Landing Gears/Brake Systems Hydraulics/Pneumatic Structural/Airframes Mechanic. I love airplanes. I don't know why the US Marines and the US Navy did not adopt and have the A-10 Warthogs' version for Aircraft Carriers. The Navy and the Marines are the First Responders in a WAR, and they should have this AWESOME A-10 in their arsenal.
I have a friend, retired USAF pilot of the A-10 the same question. As I remember it, he responded was because of the engines. The A-10 engines needed to more powerful for carrier take offs. More powerful engines require more fuel, thus reducing the amount of ordinance to be carried. And all Naval & Marine pilots must carrier qualified to receive their wings. Would a pilot also possibly hurt their careers flying an aircraft that can only take off from land bases?
As the father of a girl and a boy, I am glad to see that the ladies get a chance to press the trigger on this badass plane.

Our close air support for the Fulda Gap. After seeing this guy on maneuver in the field, super sonic lost some of its luster to me. What a plane!
Watched them practice locally in Wisconsin, flying fast and low between the bluffs of Devils Lake State Park at 6AM each summer waaay back in early 80's. Plus many years of firepower shows in 90's throughout Nellis bombing and gunnery range. A plane we cannot afford to 'retire' with no true replacement available.
We can retire it AFTER all of the evil regimes in the World have been eliminated. Don't hold your breath on this.
The 122nd’s home base is my home town. They fly overhead all the time! I love it, they’d make short work of those Russian armored columns. 🇺🇦
The entire purpose of the A-10 is the 30mm cannon (technically the 30x173mm GAU-8/A Avenger autocannon) that fires depleted uranium rounds at clip of 3,900 rounds per minute. It will definitely ruin your day. The aircraft was built solely to put this beast of a gatling gun in the air and give it and advantageous field of fire.

As a former tanker I absolutely love this plane! It is basically a flying tank. My only worry was if they ever pointed the wrong way at me! 😱 Which thank god never happened.

Seems a lot of people forget one of the best and most successful pilots in the Gulf War was an A-10 pilot with the call sign of "KC" - Killer Chick. The ground troops were really glad to know she was around. She was no nonsense.

Happy to see capable women flying front line 👍🇺🇸 I remember my Mom and Dad telling me about the wasps in WWII.
Dad flew B-25s and P-38s and would often give the WASPS pointers flying those aircraft. As his daughter, I earned my pilot's license and he was my first passenger. Later on, I got my instrument, commercial, and flight instructor ratings. I most enjoyed teaching people how to fly and the thrill people got in mastering their airplane enough to solo.

Lets never retire the A-10
Many have been re-winged to extend their lifespan. If you saw them maneuver you go oh hell yes. Quite an airplane. They are trying to push them out. They are ugly and simple. But that is what makes them so deadly.
Awesome to look at, and the A-10 is pretty impressive also!
First time I saw an A-10 fly at an air show around 1981 it blew my mind. It moved like a dragonfly. I didn't know how that was possible but I heard they are steered by the engines. I can't verify that as fact but I know these would be really hard to hit.
Imagine what these units could do in the Ukraine!
Get shot down almost immediately? It's easy to be a "flying tank" against sheep herders with no air defenses.
They could hit schools and hospitals, weddings and funerals (as you usually do). And also they could burn beautifully. Fighting with Russia is not the same as fighting with semi-savage Afghanistan.

I love the A-10 it is my favorite plane it's very cool to see I'm not the only woman who loves it .
We had some airmen visit us over a Christmas. Some of the guys still had peach fuzz. I was in the military and forgot we were young too. But the responsibilities placed on them as the ground crew are enormous. Salute! The 'wing' that come by had about as many women as guys. Terrific!!

What the video doesn't include is that the A-10 first flew 50 years ago. Next to the B-52 I'm pretty sure it's the oldest combat jet in the inventory.

Almost noticed the front wheel is offset from centre.
There is a reason for that and I could be wrong but I think it was to make room for the GAU 8 gun. Okay, quick google after I typed this, it was for the gun. Odd fact the gun itself is off center because the recoil pushes the plane a bit, guessing the push puts the rounds where they are intended.

The B-2 has "silencers" of some sort on their jet engines. I saw one go over L.A. one night and it literally made no jet engine whine even when it banked away with the engines' rear facing my direction. Putting that on the A-10 would make it even more effective.

I am an old Vietnam U.S. Marine veteran and my opinion on women pilots is that they are just as Competent as male if not even better than some plus their faces tell much of who and what type of person they are tough, resilient and intelligent. I love me some women pilots.

Take off is fine and Landing is fine. The Barrel is built around the Center line of the plane. When fired at RPM? It pushes the plane backwards in flight. The Engineers had to make a special Window solution to clean the carbon off the wind screen. Then they went back to the Armory people and had them change the Propellant. Simple works wonders. Cut off the Head then the Tail. Then work together to the middle. Ever heard of a JU-87? The sound alone made men run. This thing can Hammer down in close quarters from 40 miles away. (Maverick Missile) Then grab you by the throat after popping up.
