    I’ll agree with some of what you said that it is important to know where oil is and isn’t. I bowl on a lot of flatter patterns 1,2,3:1 type patterns in a 3 man league and in tournament settings. A great deal of my lining up or matching is coming from experience and observation of my ball going down a lane and watching others. Really watching though. I’m not talking just about directionally where they are standing, or where their ball is going. It is important but as equally as important is how much rotation, rev rate, speed, surfaces, ball choices they are using and how those balls are reacting and precessing (if at all or too much) through practice and into the first few frames. The bowler knows their game the most, the moves Bowler A does may not be the moves bowler B does. They both may be highly skilled in 2 different ranges and use them differently in the same environment. You have to be observant.

    Last week in league was insane. I was 7 boards difference from lane 1 to lane 2. 7 board difference! I never had a house shot that looked like that before. I start with a pearl and threw three gutter balls on lane one because the ball just slid out with zero traction 45 feet downlane. So I switched to a solid and ended up bowling about 10 pins below average on my series but what a struggle!

      I hate when that happens. It's really hard to play like that at my bowling center because when you have 8 people on a pair there are already too many balls on the ball return and we don't have a convenient way of storing more balls so that you can use different ball on each lane. A real pain in the rear and when you have 8 people trying to throw different balls on each lane, it takes forever to complete your game series.

      @@squidly2112 4 sure! I am new to bowling and trying to figure out what adjustments I need to make are hard enough without adding in serious differences from the way the lanes change every week much less the way pair of lanes are playing.
      I take two balls plus a spare ball each week but it would be easier to make the right adjustments if I could bring 5 or 6 balls but, like you said, that just isn't reasonable during league play.

      @@ObjectiveEthics - I actually take 8 balls with me for league (1 is practice/warmup before league, 1 is spare ball, 3 symmetric balls, 3 asymmetric balls .. solid, hybrid, pearl in each kind, sym and asym). I only place 1 ball on return with spare ball on cup below return rack. I usually only need to utilize 2 of the 6 balls, most of the time, starting with solid and move to hybrid in 2nd game (either sym or asym, depending upon which is working best that night). However, there have been occasions where I had to go through all 6 trying to figure out the right ball to get a good ball motion for the conditions (argh!), can be frustrating. Or occasionally the lanes transition so fast that I get to my pearls by game 3. Last night league I had to play a very shiny Zen Pearl by game 3 and play from way left (37-40 board) almost lofting the gutter.

    So....
    On Short patterns are 37 and under
    Play closer to the gutter and more surface.
    On Longer patterns 38 and higher
    Move everything closer to the pocket. And use less surface

    I definitely have noticed I use more "dull" bowling balls now than I ever did when I was younger. Curious though...short = dull, long = dull...when will you use "shiny"?

    • @Kaazkhan1
      @Kaazkhan1 11 місяців тому

      Dull vs shiny has more to do with how much friction you have to work with. Shiny balls can be used later in blocks when there is lots of burn and you need to move in and open the lane up. It can also be used on lower volume patterns where a dull ball might burn up.

    Maybe you can go over the different oils that are used and what effect they have on lane play.

    How many bowlers routinely bowl on short or long sport patterns? Mostly people bowl on some form of modified top hat, main street..bump and bowl. Perhaps info about that would be of some use?

    What do you recommend drilling big ball solid like reality, harst for a tweener, low speed 10.5 to 11mph, PAP, 4 3/4, 1/2 UP?, Will 4x4 1/2x2 works? Will use on 41 foot, 29 mil pattern.

    Usually JR does a good job of dumbing down his explanations. Maybe it's bc most amateurs don't have enough experience bowling on sport patterns, but I can tell from the comments this video went right over the audience's head.

    One thing you didn't mention was the preferred ball type on long pattern as you did with short pattern. Great video otherwise
