RED BAITS Only Stocked Trout Fishing Challenge (Missed Bites All Day...)

Sticking to the stocked trout fishing color bait challenge, today I hit the local pond with only red colored baits to chase some stocked trout. The overcast skies and trout did not want to play nice, but I did catch my biggest trout of the spring, and better weather of the day produced some good trout bites.

What color should I use for my next trout fishing challenge?

My understanding is that the color red is hard for trout to see or they just see it has well , compared to other colors. Not sure if it's true, but love rarely caught any while using it. Pinks, orange, white, yellows , . Blue being the easiest for them to see. Don't know why we can't get more blue based baits here. But the European market gets some.?

The Euro market does love blue! I fished with a Blue Powerbait that you can only get in Europe last year. I think a blue color challenge should be next on the list!!!

I've found that one of the best hooks to use for planter trout is a size 10 salmon egg hook in conjunction with powerbait. Use a small file to sharpen the points and you're set. With the salmon egg hook, you can use a smaller amount of powerbait to float it above the weeds and the smaller trout won't try and peck it into oblivion. I've noticed also that it's easier to set the hook with the salmon egg style over a baitholder or treble.

How do you not gut hook them!!?? When I plunk off the bottom I struggle with that and I’m preferred catch and release angler. Thanks for the advice
