  • Some parts of the piano have been badly eaten by woodworm, for instance, the thick plank underneath the instrument at the front containing the threaded sockets for the legs. To keep everything as original as possible the plank itself will be glued back but the two sections where the legs screw in will have to be renewed. The woodworm appears to be dead but the holes have been injected with poison to be sure.
Since 2019 the Carl Bechstein Foundation in Berlin is building up a collection of historical keyboard instruments, reflecting the history of the piano. All instruments will be in perfect playing condition and in this film-series you'll see the whole proces of a restoration, starting from a total wreck. This fortepiano was built around 1795 in Vienna by Ferdinand Hofmann (1756-1829).
From this restoration film series are two versions, one with a German voice-over and this one with an English voice-over.
