On 5th July 2024, the critically-acclaimed, former-Sony artist Garfield Mayor released his first new single for over a decade. Titled Been Thinking, the soaring piano-ballad is the first in a slew of new tracks produced with the help of multi-platinum producers Mike Spencer (Ellie Goulding/Emeli Sandé/Kylie) and Mark 'Exit' Goodchild (Lady Gaga/Taylor Swift/Justin Bieber).
Amidst a collection of new tracks in which Mayor unashamedly stretches his production legs (think The Script/Fleetwood Mac's pop-rock through to Daft Punk-esque electro-pop), the epic piano-ballad Been Thinking might seem like an odd choice for Mayor's grand return. But those familiar with his work will know romance is never far away: "Without my wife" he says, "I wouldn't have survived the fallout from the Sony deal - let alone made more music - I was devastated. Christy got me through it - so I wanted to make the first release a tribute to her". Been Thinking was written specifically as Mayor's marriage proposal.
