    Very nice video of the views a borescope provides. It's amazing that after 45-years as a gunsmith the number of people who have gotten ahold of a borescope, but still have no idea what they are looking at. But still panic at what they perceive as a problem. The truest test of any gun/barrel/caliber is simply "How well does it shoot"? At Weatherby we had a 30-378 Wby AccuMark test rifle whose bore looked like charcoal but would print a sub-moa group at 200-yards with 180 grain Barnes-X bullets. And I've tested rifles with cosmetically perfect barrels that couldn't make a 4-inch group at 100-yards due to its dislike for a particular bullet/load type..

      I’m in this boat, thankful I found this video. I mistook my gas port for damage the other day, gave my buddies a good laugh.

    Can you polish some of those barrels out by using brush research riffle chamber flex hone silicone carbide ? And what grit ? 800?

    The real question is, can any of these barrels be saved with a vigorous lapping? At what point during the life of a barrel is lapping beneficial?

      I think if there is only a bit of rust it can be saved. One guy i know has a pistol with a rusty barrel, i cleaned it and there is still a bit of rust but the weapon is still shooting on point after using barrel cleaner and letting it in for 10 minutes or so and that for 10 times or so.

      You can get some rust out and polish by using brush research flex-hone silicone carbide. Not sure what grit .. I'm asking him now. I know 800 grit will polish a barrel. Using a good oil with it. But be careful. I would have a smith show you how to use it and when and what grit to use.

      I know they were first designed to mill cylinder heads for cars. It was used by auto mechanics.. so just becareful and don't over do it. And use plenty of oil.. no different then when you cut threads when using oil.. if you know what I'm trying to say..

    why 0 degree and not 180 degree?

    • @W0GUN
      @W0GUN Рік тому +1

      Because a view of 0 degrees is forward and 180 would be backwards and we are looking at the object along with axis of the barrel and at an angle of 90 degrees to the axis of the barrel
