Welcome to Modern Homestead Alaska. We are located in South Central Alaska near the town of Wasilla. Living in Alaska and building our dream of “modern Homesteading” through the wilds of winter and the long summer days. We started building our Modern Homestead in 2021. We have since completed the upper levels of our home. Built a 16x16 foot chicken coop that dreams are made of. Our chicken ladies live in luxury as they view the beautiful lake from large windows inside the beautiful coop. We raise our own poultry, hunt for our food. We are avid fisherman And woman. We also built an amazing and beautiful wood shed. We have great big garden planes for the future. Join us as we dream big dreams and live everyday working hard to accomplish them.

I respect other views and opinions but the fur auction is as iconic as the sled racing in Alaska. That is still how some make a living for their family. It is very regulated just like hunting, and trappers are very good stewards of the animals on their line. Great video

Totally agree! They truly live a honest hard working life. It’s a beautiful thing to remember history and allow it to live through the next generation. It’s why canning and gardens and homesteads are making a comeback.

We can and should never let go of the tradition let have keep this nation going through hard times, the moment we do the whole system will fail us, as has already been shown. Plus let's face it simply is better for us in so many ways....mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

This was such a fun video to watch. So many things to do in one day! That was the first fur auction I have ever seen. The fur trade has always been a way for people to make a living all over the world! God bless you all!

Thank you sooo much for the trip to the Rendezvou. We bought the collector's pin and went to that for many many years. Bet they didn't have to bring in any snow this year,
The real race starts up the hwy near Willow.
Peta is been trying to stop that for as long as I remember. The dog's LOVE to race they are raised on that. I've never been to Nome though. Maybe someday. It would be a thrill to watch them come in.
When you went to the auction I checked off the hides I have on the walls in front of me right now but they are animals Tom actually got himself. So nice to see downtown again. Thanks for doing that.❤❤❤

Loved seeing your day out and seeing the fur auction.... there is nothing like fur snowmobile mitts. Never ever cold.
Have your pelt made into something that you'll use every year, it will last your lifetime 🎉 that's honoring the old ways and the fur & life of that animal. Blessings TY for highlighting and sharing.
I'm from Quebec, which was very big and founded in the beaver pelt fur trade in the 1600s and 1700s. It's a way of life and warmth. Not fashion.
Live with thanksgiving for your pelt and eventual garment. TY for sharing, perhaps socially unpopular. But important to share fur = warm.
    Sending love from Ontario 🇨🇦

Love this! Thank you for seeing and understand we are honoring the way of life that allowed so many to even survive up here. Being allergic to the cold my head and ears get the brunt of it when we are out. So I got a fox that will keep my head warm I’m excited to see how it turns out.

I wonder if our friends from Whitehorse were racing with their dogs? They do the sprints. Also, the fur trapping is a way of life for some in the north. It's done ethically & is definitely some of the best outerwear for those conditions

Hi Jessica and Aaron! What a fun day.
Aaron was in great spirits with his flags. The restaurant sounds like they serve good food.
I’ve always wanted to see the dog sled races in person. Beautiful furs, so nice. I’ve always thought the Arctic Fox. The tanning process is very laborious. Thank you both for sharing your day with us.
    Have a blessed night!

Wonderful video, brought back many memories for me. My first date with my now ex-husband was exactly what you did. The dog races, fur auction, carnival and a good restaurant. I am sorry I didn’t make it back to Alaska this year to see this (On my bucket list). But the fond memories of Alaska and now your new video kept me smiling. It was a nice walk down memory lane since I’ve always loved Alaska.

    • @modernhomesteadalaska
      @modernhomesteadalaska  4 місяці тому +1

Not at all the dogs live for it. To run is all that way. There are like 100 vets on the race trail and the dogs are checked every day. It’s wild the priority and care the dogs get.

They are Alaska Husky, they are very small dogs, it’s a little mind blowing actually. I would have thought big Husky style dogs.
I got one of the arctic foxes to have a head cover for all the ice/snow stuff we do. To try and keep my head warmer.

  • @susanhamilton1707

I know that those dogs live to race, and they are well cared for,....but I look at my dog that is reclining in a big fluffy bed. He is so far from a dog sled dog.
I also have mixed feeling about the fur auction. I would rather see the animals in the wild with their pelt on them.
I know that many people hunt and then use every bit of the animal, for food and many other things, but it hurts my heart to see this.
I am glad you two had a good day away from all the work at the homestead

I see your perspective I truly do. It’s good to have the perspective and understanding of a states history and how so many survived here for so long. I try to balance feelings and what Alaska truly is, from an honest place. I think you see that on my channel and have been so supportive.

Sounds good it’s called the Fur Rondy as part of Alaskas History. I’m ok with you not being Ok with that. I’m not going to hide what Alaska is to gain subscribers. That would be dishonest on my part. And that’s simply not who I am.
