But i'm glad because you've explained this stuff so well. One lesson a day, just drilling it in. I know this video is 6 years old, but I hope you're still teaching.
These videos on the pronouns have been the most helpful that I have found so far. It is always that small words that cause the most problems and your series does a great job at explaining them

I think there is a mistake in the answer key for double object pronouns. Number 8 it uses 'te' instead of 'me'.
Agreed. The answer for no. 8 should be "(Ellos/ellas) ME las quieren dar."

There is one error. Jordan says that Reflexive + Indirect is rare, but it is fairly common.
Example: Se le cayó = It fell (off himself) [Meaning that he dropped it involuntarily]
In this case "se" (reflexive) refers to the fact that the object fell off himself/his own body and "le" (indirect) refers to the fact that he is the person that the object belongs to.

Es algo muy normal en los niños cuando está aprendiendo a hablar que cambien el orden los pronombres y digan "me se olvidó" o "me se rompió". En estas ocasiones, utilizamos un memotécnico muy estendido (muy popular). Les decimos: recuerda, la SEmana es antes que el MEs.

This has been one of the most helpful lessons to me, as I navigate the early stages of my university Spanish courses. For the most part my textbook has been very useful in laying out ground rules for grammatical structures, and my teacher very competent and knowledgeable, but the section on double object pronouns is basically a tongue twister for my brain, leaving me stumped for over an hour.
Having a decent understanding of individual R.I.D. pronoun forms, I can say happily that this tutorial had beautifully smooth transitions between concepts and was worded perfectly so as to be clear and concise without being confusing at all (in my opinion).
I frequently find myself referring to your videos for clarification when other methods fail.

There is something wrong in the answer keys with the 8th question "They want to give them to me. (feminine)" In the answer keys it said that it's " (Ellos/ellas) quieren dartelas. | (Ellos/ellas) te las quieren dar." Shouldn't it be "me las quieren dar"
Me parece curioso que cuando hablamos nuestro idioma nativo, ni siquiera nos damos cuenta de estas curiosidades, solo hablamos el idioma y ya. Spanish Dude! You rock man, I've been dipping in and out of this video a lot as I progress through my spanish learning, but it's definitely finally sinking in. I came across an example of when I needed to apply the RID rule but with the verb gustar. The sentence I needed to translate was, "I would like to stay home today". Yes, you could use quisiera to remove the problem, but it's a bit over-formal given that you wouldn't be saying this to none other than a friend or family member, so you would use "Me gustaria" for "I would like". Because you have now used the pronoun 'me' for gustar, it means that you are forced to attach the reflexive pronoun on to 'quedar', whereas if you used quisiera, you would have a choice in saying "Me quisiera quedar". I just thought that was a rather unique example where your 'gringo brain' has helped you here, but I actually prefer to add the reflexive pronouns before the conjugated verb, as I find it easier to recognise in a sentence.
there is an error on the answer sheet! You put Te not Me. On number 8 in the first group should say "Me Las Quieren Dar" or "Quieren Darmelas".

Helpful! I like RID. It is silly but I keep struggling with which pronoun comes first. Mnemonics are always helpful! It's great to have all three of these videos as helpful reminders.
Excellent video. I had the flu and missed a lot of the verbal and written practice my class did on these pronouns, and I simply felt as though I missed out on the most important lesson and was severely behind. Not anymore though, thanks to these four videos.

callofdutyguy247 Exactly! I'm glad you agree. Always nice to know I'm not alone. I've come to the conclusion since making these videos, Spanish grammar is mostly verb conjugation and pronouns. Then vocabulary. Everything else makes up the last portion.

A good example to use for beginners in Spanish of something "sounding wrong" is where "no" should be. After just a month or so, I found that "lo no quiero" just didn't sound right because I had heard "no lo" hundreds of times. Eventually "la la" will stop sounding right and you'll know you're doing something wrong.

i really dont think conjugations is hard. But this stuff...RID, and all this pronoun stuff really is a brain teaser. im just hoping one day it becomes a bit more instinctual. definitely struggling a bit
Pronouns are hard man. The idea of them is so simple (arguably) but then we've come here. On the other hand, here is pretty far up the road. I think I've finally got a single neuron in my brain that's understood all of this. Time to train the others.
I must admit...these Indirect, Direct, pronouns are slightly hard. I still say the conjugation is much harder.

Hola! There is a mistake in the answer guide, section one question eight, I think it should be ellos quieren darmelas. The structure of questions 7 and 8 differ in their indirect pronouns.

the first case i can remove the ambiguity by adding the indirect object to the sentence

se lo compro a ustedes
but in the second case how can i know if the word (se) is for a reflexive verb ...
or it is an indirect object pronoun ?

+jameel jameel "Se lo compro". As you said, can be "I buy it for him, her, them". But it can also be "you" (formal) -- both singular and plural.
That CANNOT be translated as "I buy it for myself". "I buy it for myself" would be "Me lo compro".
Yes, you can avoid ambiguity by adding the indirect object.
But I would say "para Juan" not "a Juan" or "para ustedes" not "a ustedes".
Good questions, I can tell you get it. Just a little cloudy still. Review reflexive verbs and you'll be there.

First off I need to get the absolutely mandatory: "Your videos are awesome beyond words for more reasons than I can count". But to cite a few, every video really is very entertaining to watch and the effort you take to be as clear and precise as possible is highly appreciated.
Anyways, I just wanted to comment this time and say that I especially appreciate how honest and relatable you are in your videos. It makes everything very reassuring. I was doing unexpectedly well with memorizing things up until now using the ridiculously, simple flash card strategy but I feel like I am being slowed down a bit here... not because of the way you teach, but simply because the pronoun videos on their own are perfectly understandable... but then once the other versions start piling up I find myself pausing to remember which is which.
I wasn't looking forward to moving on to this final video but your reassuring words definitely made me feel more at ease and eager to keep trying until it works automatically(I found that hard to comprehend until you actually mentioned it and testified to it's legitimacy).
So thank you once again! You've restored my dwindling confidence just now and I will definitely try to practice these until my brain bleeds.

Jordan as a new learner to spanish, I noticed right away the issue I was having but had no idea how to address it. As I am watching your lesson now I see in the reflexiverbs review the translation "He buys a gift for himself" = se compra un regalo .. My mind couldn't wrap itself around "un regalo" I thought why is it this and not "un regala" since he is the subject and the participant of the action which is a male, but now it is understood he is doing it for himself and the only subject pronoun 1st person singular is Yo which literally means oneself(I)

in someone elses video less.. i was tought you could use El (with accent) for indirect object pronoun (para el, para ella) but now i see that reads like "for he, for she'. im confused
"él" is the personal pronoun for he. I don't think it is practical to substitute the indirect object pronouns with the p.p. I might be understandable for sure but it is a very particular way to say things, not common among people.
I've got a question.... there seems to be no rules about when to use pronouns or just use a verb ending to indicate the pronoun. Maybe you might be able to explain why? I'm so confused !

Thanks for your wonderful videos as always but please tell me how would I know if the 'se' is you, him or it. The first sentence below suggests the 'se' is plural (them) while in the second it is singular 'her'. Also could the three remaining sentences be translated differently from those provided below i.e. switching him/her for them. Thank you.

Hi, I don't quite understand the "se" part. You only showed when it's le/les+lo/la, we'll change le/les to se, but what about le/les+los/las, or even le/les+me in the case of double object pronoun? BTW, you are teaching greatly! Love it!

I didn't know this but when I looked up pronunciation for "comprarmelo" the word showed up as "comprármelo", minor issue tho. Love your videos a lot. Thanks for making them! One question I was wondering about: How does the "changing to se" rule apply when it comes to "usted"?

Daniel Hernando Rojas Rodríguez There's no one tip I could give you to follow that will instantly get you to speak well. The only way to truly improve is through PAIN.What I mean is, unless you force yourself, as often as possible, to be in situations where you will make mistakes, you'll improve very slowly.I meet lots of Latinos (I live in Florida). I'd say the biggest difference between the ones who speak really well and the ones who don't, the ones who speak well are the ones who hang out with Gringos.You have to hang out with Gringos. I'll assume you're in the United States. You are lucky. You are surrounded by Gringos. That's the way to speak well.
If you can find one here or there to correct your mistakes, great. But don't expect it.Just hang out with them. You might not understand all or much, but bit by bit you'll get better.
Speak the best you can. When they don't understand you, say the sentence again a different way. It'll suck. But I can tell from your written messages, you'll get the main message across the first time usually. And when you don't. The second or third. It's all good.
But you have to go through the awkwardness, the PAIN to get to the part where you speak and understand very well. The part where they all laugh at you when you make a mistake.
They're not laughing at you because you are stupid. They are laughing at you because your mistake was really cute.
It's hard to realize that sometimes.
My good friends laugh at the way I say gracias. They laugh at lots of my words. But it's cute to them I think. Just like when a Spanish speaker makes a mistake, it's super cute.
Other specific stuff, in the same way: Do not watch TV or movies in Spanish. Do not listen to music in Spanish. If you are not good enough yet to understand, then start with one tv show. Play the first scene over and over until you understand. Go to the next scene.
This will help you to see how sentences are formed in real life, without having to learn more grammar.
You can learn lots of phrases and cool things to say from songs too. Play a song over and over and over. Try to guess what they are saying.
Then look up the lyrics.
Then play the song over and over and over while reading the lyrics.
The better you hear, the better you'll talk. The better you talk, the better you'll hear.
If you're in the United States, the only thing standing between you and beautiful (with an accent always) English is YOU.
The Gringo friends might not come in a day. But you can up your English interaction with strangers right away in day to day life.
If you're at the supermarket. Instead of just saying "hi" when they say "hi". Ask them "How's it going?" They say fine. Then probably ask you the same. Instead of just saying "fine". Say "I'm doing fine. Thank you for asking.". Then the next time, try "I'm okay. Long day."
The supermarket checkout is a great place to try new stuff and get comfy. If you're way past that. Then just push yourself to use more English in your day to day to life.
Read. Music. Movies. People. Food--go to Gringo Places. If you're living a Latino life, your English will improve slower.

I love your videos, but for double object pronouns I prefer to use the ID rule because in the example Me lo compro (me is an indirect object "for whom or to whom something is done" and the "lo" is the direct object pronoun. Also the “se” as indirect object pronoun with lo, la, los, and las is a phonetic rule. It is not considered a reflexive pronoun.

I love your videos, but just so you know when you you are forgetting one crucial rule in Spanish in this video (For people taking class) If the sentence was:
I want to give it to you,
quiero dArtelo. There must be an accent on the stress of the word so it is pronounced correctly.! This only applies when adding it to the end of a verb :)!

Love the video Spanish Dude, I'm just wondering why you left out the accents on all the double object pronoun sentences that are attached? I believe that they all should have an accent on the 3rd to the last syllable, right?
What about "Me quiere comprarlo."? I mean, it follows the RID rule. :D
