      Armstrong is a cooky over the top strawman of conservatives in America. Liquid snake (Ocelot at the end of MGS4) represents how actual Libertarians would actually do things if we got a precious opportunity to take our country back. The government would be very small and there would be very little law compared to now. What Liquid/Ocelot actually wanted was a Constitutional Republic in the end.

      I think thematically the nanomachines work for Armstrong. He uses them the same way he would use his subjects. His whole deal is survival of the fittest and the strong ruling over the weak, rising to the top. In a way, his ideals are kinda fair, your own abilities and willpower decide how far in life you'd get as opposed to politics and nepotism.

His lines, personality, the fact that he punched Raiden so hard that Metal Gear Excelsus just exploded and everything around him was burning and our thoughts about him, and that at first we think that he's another politican, evil guy or something but later realize that we are the same as this man right here we are fighting, and this song is like an apology for the fight these two have to participate in, which is basically a test who's going to survive to carve their own path and follow their beliefs with their own methods. Great game.

      What I love about this conflict between Armstrong and Raiden is that it is a perfect example of Hegelian dialectics (as I understand it) Armstrong’s ideals, the thesis and Raiden’s ideals, the antithesis. Armstrong believes that might makes right and that the weak should be purged so that the strong can thrive while Raiden believes in protecting those who are less fortunate. After the battle is over Armstrong’s ideas have cleary impacted Raiden’s beliefs this is the synthesis.

    One of the reasons why Armstrong is one of the best video game villains is that usually normal video game villains just stand around and monologue during cutscenes in the fight and allow the protagonist to get the upper hand on them but Armstrong because instead of just standing around monologuing, instead, he beats the living sh*t out of the protagonist while monologuing. This is why Armstrong is 1 of the best villains ever.

    Y'know, I had a thought while listening to this on loop. "Violence breeds violence, but in the end, it has to be this way."
    This song, and that line, aren't just about the fight in the foreground between Raiden and Armstrong. They're about the game's core moral dilemma- the hypocrisy and ethics of fighting and killing to solve problems. In this line, the song spells out the conclusion Raiden, and perhaps the player, have come to after everything Revengeance has put them through:
    Violence is cyclical, with a tendency to spread out of control, but when you cut through all the bullshit, sometimes the stakes are too damned high, all other options have been exhausted, and violence is the last resort. In the end, we as humans are willing to fight and kill for what we believe is necessary, and no degree of education or civilization is going to remove that from the depths of our nature. In the end, we just have to be this way.

With this magic charm, Raiden marks the end of the song, sending the player out and giving him all the revenge he deserves.
      La violenza e ciclica, con una tendenza and diffondersi senza controllo, you do not have to want people to write and make improvements. Because education and society need to better understand our nature. Thanks Dobiamo Solocos.

      @Wicker 2 There's still a lot of violence that's happening around the world due to international conflicts. Some people just can't be reasoned with, you can't 'fix' or negotiate with ISIS, so you have to use violence in order to accomplish anything. That in turn causes retaliation. Nothing ends until there's consensus or surrender, or we bomb a civilian population which nobody is gonna do because that'll cause even more problems. That's physical violence anyway, you could stretch this topic to encapsulate social or economic 'violence' but that's probably beyond the scope of what Revengeance covers directly. Violence will be uncontrollable so long as there's an enemy that won't agree with you, to the point where you will have to use violence to subdue them. It's not as glamorous as suplexing a Metal Gear though, which is the domain of fiction, unfortunately..

    • @sampajam6256
      @sampajam6256 2 роки тому +58

      @Wicker 2 it's true that there is less and less war, still violence isn't just war, just take a look at the rise of fascism around the world, many at-right militia tries to sow discent every where on the world, many workers around the world riot because of life conditions, it's not that violence is uncontrollable, but rather violence is bound to happen as long we don't work on it's root cause to reduce it to the minimum

    I think my favorite part about this all, that I've never really seen anyone else point out, is that at the very end of the game, Raiden actually took what Armstrong said to heart.
    He tells Boris that people are fighting for causes they don't understand or fighting for things they don't believe in... and that he has his own wars to fight.
    Despite all the memes, despite the fact that he lost and died, Armstrong still lives on.

    De pie aquí me doy cuenta de que eres como yo tratando de hacer historia pero quién puede juzgar el bien del mal cuando bajamos la guardia creo que ambos estaremos de acuerdo en que la violencia engendra violencia pero al final tiene que ser así. tallaste mi propio camino Seguiste tu ira Pero tal vez ambos somos iguales El mundo ha cambiado Y tantos se han quemado Pero nadie tiene la culpa Sin embargo, mirando a través de esta tierra estéril y desierta Siento que nacerá una nueva vida Debajo de la arena manchada de sangre Debajo la arena manchada de sangre

    Wenn ich hier stehe, wird mir klar, dass du genau wie ich bist und versuchst, Geschichte zu schreiben. Aber wer soll das zwischen richtig und falsch beurteilen? Ich habe meinen eigenen Weg eingeschlagen Du bist deinem Zorn gefolgt Aber vielleicht sind wir beide gleich Die Welt hat sich verändert Und so viele sind verbrannt Aber niemand trägt die Schuld Doch wenn ich über dieses karge, verlassene Land starre, spüre ich, dass neues Leben unter dem blutbefleckten Sand darunter geboren wird der blutbefleckte Sand

    Стоя здесь, я понимаю, что ты такой же, как я, пытаешься творить историю, но кто может судить, что правильно, а что неправильно, когда наша бдительность ослаблена, я думаю, мы оба согласимся, что насилие порождает насилие, но, в конце концов, так и должно быть. проложил мой собственный путь Ты последовал за своим гневом Но, может быть, мы оба одинаковы Мир изменился И так много сгорело Но никто не виноват Но глядя на эту бесплодную опустошенную землю Я чувствую, что новая жизнь родится Под запятнанным кровью песком Под ним окровавленный песок
