Metal Gear Rising is the only metal gear game with good gameplay in my opinion. I’ve played all of theme and they just seemed pretty outdated in terms of gameplay (minus MGSV).
Ironically enough, Sam's vulnerable to Monsoon's sai's electricity when he has his sword. When he doesn't, I'd recommend using L'etranger, Mistral's polearm. Bloodlust, Sundowner's machetes, are just way too slow to actually land hits reliably.

The fact that he was on par with augmented Raiden, despite having less Cybernetics than Gray Fox, speaks volumes to just how incredibly skilled Sam really was.
He was probably on the same level of Gray Fox, actually. He's still wearing an exosuit, else he wouldn't be able to do the ninja run and other crazy shit in this game. I don't get why people say this about Sam. He was good, but Raiden is still better.
@@theta_clips ehh? If they had the same amount of enhancements, I think Sam would win! I mean raidin still has a ton more upgrades than Sam does essentially
That's kind of the point. Unlike most of the characters, Sam is more human than cyborg; absolutely more than Raiden is. In fact, in the Japanese release of the game, Sam is the *only* major character to have red blood (androids and cyborgs have white blood), further symbolizing just how human he was.
@@machexx1494 Yes, it's to show how far from human Raiden, Mistral, and Sundowner are. But Sam, however, as I've stated before, has red blood. I just think it's a cool fact and shows how much though went into this game.
I love this track but the thing that elevates this for me is that it’s a metal song mixed with traditional Japanese sounding whistles being used as the theme for a Brazilian
This is more then just an amazing song. It serves as crucial characterisation of Sam's character. Throughout the game Sam presents himself as a cheeky and laid-back antagonist. Lyrics of this song conveys what actually is happening in his head. That he is on verge of losing sanity and already lost his sense of self by being basically forced to commit villainy. His cheeky persona is just a coping mechanisms. Obviously, he cannot afford to convey this directly with words, that deep inside he is battling even greater demons most of us cannot even imagine, because that would be out of character for him honestly, nobody would teke him seriously. That's where lyrics come in. During first encounter this song is purely instrumental, during final encounter we get the full scope. This is the reason why he was willing to relinquish his sword to Raiden should he defeat him. A final attempt at redemption. Truly a masterpiece.
This is a thing with most boss soudtracks in the game. They provide more details on each character. Thats part of why I personally believe they are the best soundtracks of any game, and why the bosses are so good.
One of the reasons i love this fight is because Sam is the only boss that plays fair, no minions, no shields, no giant robots, he just fights you with a sword and his pure skill, that is why when i fought him i removed the secondary weapons so it could be a fair 1v1
Notice that once you disarm Sam, the music loses it's vocals and becomes instrumental. Without his Father's sword he isn't Jetstream Sam or Minuano anymore, he's just Samuel Rodrigues relying on his arts and cyborg arm. A human without a cause, without a goal but when Sam reclaims his Katana as the vocals kick back in, he gives in to the hopelessness and embraces what he's become now. Legendary game and we don't make em like we used to.
I like to think his music has speakers that play music and when he drops it, its muffled because its far way. My evidence is when Sam records himself into the blade. And btw, this happens in the armstrong fight too.
Alternate explanation is that, Sam is addicted to battle as his coping mechanism. When he has his sword, he does have to think to much about the fight and keeps thinking about "why I'm standing here holding my blade" or how his life has always been bloodshed. When he loses his blade he has to concentrate on the fight and his concerns about his state of life and past are lost in thought.
Since Raiden uses Sam's sword in the final battle, this same thing happens. For as long as you hold the sword, the vocals play. But when Raiden loses the sword, the song becomes an instrumental. To add onto this, It Has To Be This Way only starts playing for the first time in the final battle when Raiden gets Sam's sword, and the vocals correlate to how Raiden begins to understand why Sam gives himself into battle, and that he is no different after all. Raiden and Sam are more alike than they think.
him picking his sword back up is sort of like him forfeiting his indiependance, after getting his ass kicked by raiden despite his best efforts on his own he feels like he needs to go back and rely on his fathers sword again. before getting his ass kicked again anyways
So let me get this straight: We started in 1964 during the Cold War playing as an eye patch man, and now it's 2018 and we're playing as a high-heel wearing blond robot man that uses his sword to harvest the Gatorade from other robot people.
It’s the same situation in Jojo, we go from a man with magic sunlight breathing fighting a vampire in the 1880’s to punchy ghosts in 2011 fighting a priest with a punchy ghost that can steal the other punchy ghosts
They programmed the game so that the boss themes would kick into different refrains for certain segments. Like on Metal Gear RAY at the start, it's programmed to start the chorus when you block the blade so you always get that "RULES OF NATURE!!!" every time.

Metal Gear Rising is the video game equivalent of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy. They’re both incredibly cheesy, campy, and memeable, yet are filled with a ton of heart and soul, have quality soundtracks you can listen to and remember forever, excellent narrative themes, and memorable characters and lines, with fanbases that support it and continue its legacy well after they came out.
@@darshio8307 Metal Gear Rising’s story is definitely on par or better with at least some of the games in MGS. Plus, you don’t need to know 20 hours worth of story just to understand the backstory and reason why characters are there in the first place.
@@focalpoint._ Compare mgs2 plot and MGR plot Mgs2 is one of the deepest plot ever made in videogame history. But althought MGR is actually good, the thruth is that is quite more about the gameplay that the narrative and the combination of mechanics inside the game. The humanity in every character in mgs1, the complicated manipulation of media and ideology in mgs2, the complex lie in history shown in mgs3, and the astonish conclusion that is mgs4. Honestly, this entire game was what sold me on the idea of "based cringe". It's so fucking hammy and cheesy, it might as well be a sandwich. But it's also so sincere and on point- that you stop caring how dumb it "should feel" to a casual audience. You come to the realisation that this inarguably dumb shit is also cool as fuck- and if you are some kind of lame nerd for thinking that- who fucking cares?, this is both hilarious and awesome at the same time. The presentation of this game is like some kind of cheesy anime where a flagrant rule-of-cool is the name of the game, but the themes being tackled by the narrative are genuinely politically subversive on some kind of accessible, entry level basis. And every song is an absolute banger in exactly the same way
I can’t be the only one who doesn’t see this as “dumb” or “cheesy” but just straight up cool lol. It seems like no one can compliment this game without saying it’s cheesy or silly.

Jetstream Sam was the only Winds of Destruction member I really didn't want to kill, on the bright side, he lives on as Raiden's sword now. We still out here waiting for a sequel
Samuel Rodrigues is a Japanese-Brazilian. He learned the ways of his father's blade. He fought for justice, driven by his own senses. He was once like Raiden. He was considered a Samurai, and he was. He was honorable, always did what his heart felt was morally correct. But from 2016, he was becoming less and less of what he stood for. In his last minutes, fighting Raiden 1 on 1 like a Cowboy Duel, no dirty tricks, Samurai Honor, Sam was the one thing he swore to destroy the night Armstrong recruited him. He was, at heart, fighting for morally corrupted and wrong people, destroying anyone who opposed him. The mountain refers to success. As he climbs it, he loses the past to being a tool of Desperado, the Winds of Destruction. He grew to hate himself, and was wallowing in agony, and misery, knowing what he was fighting for was wrong. He only knows how to fight and kill, not why. He lost his sense of honor and his sense of being a Samurai. He honorably gifted Raiden his blade following his defeat at Raiden's hand. Raiden did what Sam couldn't; kill Armstrong. He died knowing Raiden would fight on. Each member represented some sort of part of Raiden. Mistral represents his past as a child soldier in a civil war. Monsoon embodies Raiden's true personality and mind, a killer cyborg who longs to fight his own war. Sundowner has Raiden's cruelty, his bloodlust. And Sam embodied what Raiden _was_ before they fought. Sam was honorable, protected the weak, and destroyed corruption wherever he could. But Raiden eventually caved in, and chose to leave Maverick and fight his personal war against World Marshal and Desperado's surviving members. Unlike the other WoD, Sam felt far more equal to Raiden. Sundowner had to use dirty tricks and, to some extent, run. Mistral had to use minions. Monsoon used vehicles and threw them. Sam, on the other hand, didn't do anything. He fought Raiden, 1 on 1, a swordfight of two swordsmen. Sam was his equal. But upon killing Sam, Raiden discovered that he had no cybernetic enhancements other than is right arm, which was replaced after Armstrong basically destroyed it. Sam was literally a VERY talented swordmaster with a nano-suit. That's it. Hardly a cyborg. If he was, safe to say, Raiden could have lost if he wasn't in Ripper Mode. In summary, Sam was Raiden's equal. He was somewhat corrupted, wallowing in his own agony. Raiden liberated Sam from it all. Sam grew to hate himself and what he was. His sword is what made Sam, well, Sam. Without it, he was a skilled martial artist who could hold his own. Sam's death was not in vain.

As the sun sets, two men bare their souls. Within the barren lands, a challenge is made, a call answered, and for a brief moment like the lightning that comes before the thunder, their souls clash. They crack, shatter, break and all that's left is a smile of reassurance. For the first time ever, Samuel wasn't so lonely and Raiden wasn't so lost. An understanding that can only be found when one is willing to sacrifice everything for a single moment, in search of a single truth.
God this gives me flashbacks.... I absolutely loved this fight. The difficulty is extremely high but it never feels unfair since in truth Sam is easy to read but his aggression keeps it from being easy. Then you got this awesome theme and the adrenaline that will be pumping through your veins. This is definitely a top 3 boss fights of the 2010's
Something else you didn't mention is that it was a fair 1v1 fight. Dude with sword vs dude with sword. Not dude with sword against dude with explosive shield, 2 swords and helicopters for example. That also really pumped me up. (No hate against Sundowner fight ofc, also like it).
@@antekglognut it’s fair as in you aren’t fighting several opponents at once. It’s a Brazilian man who is extremely good with a sword vs you. No minions, no helicopter, hell, no guns like in the GRAD fight. And you get no advantages either.

You spelt Teke wrong…
The only thing he knows for real
So basically he is dante
I'm not reading all of that

Compare mgs2 plot and MGR plot
Mgs2 is one of the deepest plot ever made in videogame history.
But althought MGR is actually good, the thruth is that is quite more about the gameplay that the narrative and the combination of mechanics inside the game.
If you have ever played mgs1-mgs4, you can't literally say that mgsr has better history.
The humanity in every character in mgs1, the complicated manipulation of media and ideology in mgs2, the complex lie in history shown in mgs3, and the astonish conclusion that is mgs4.
MGR is not Bad, but talking about narrative and immersión through gameplay, Mgs franchise is WAY better, not for nothing is one of the most influiential games in history.
MGR, as I said, is good, the music is amazing, but compared with the franchise that gave it live in form of spin off, is really not that good.
I trully enjoyed MGR, like a Lot, but just because something gets popular, doesnt mean is one of the best things in industry, specialy considering where it came from.

WHY AM I ALWAYS SEEING YOU MAN? ARE YOU SOME KIND OF GHOST?
oh hi
Konami hates videogames so probably never happening.
Me: "Yes! Now that I have disarmed him this will be easy!"
Sam: *"I'm gonna do what's called a pro samurai move."*
*DisArms you back*
**Commits ponch**
Its been 10 years and this tune is still banging
Sam's death was not in vain.
underrated comment.
Mistral = Raiden's loneliness
Monsoon = Raiden's nihilism
Sundowner = Raiden's cruelty
Sam = Raiden's Shadow

MEMES, THE DNA OF THE SOUL!
holy shit this is actually real
As the sun sets, two men bare their souls. Within the barren lands, a challenge is made, a call answered, and for a brief moment like the lightning that comes before the thunder, their souls clash. They crack, shatter, break and all that's left is a smile of reassurance. For the first time ever, Samuel wasn't so lonely and Raiden wasn't so lost. An understanding that can only be found when one is willing to sacrifice everything for a single moment, in search of a single truth.

As deep as the stab wound the sam got

@@SpookerII _Now _*_THIS_*_ is a fight!_
@@Predalien3001 sundowner was a good fight but it was so easy. At least it has in my opinion the best boss theme.
@@Predalien3001 sundowner sucked. The helicopter just made it annoying
@@Predalien3001 the fight wasnt fair, raiden is a cyborg, sam was a guy in a suit, admittedly very powerful, but just a regular guy
@@antekglognut it’s fair as in you aren’t fighting several opponents at once. It’s a Brazilian man who is extremely good with a sword vs you. No minions, no helicopter, hell, no guns like in the GRAD fight. And you get no advantages either. As far as I am aware, there were no nano repair pastes in this fight so you were not given an advantage on healing.
Just you vs him in a sword fight where you’re more scared of him without the sword than with it.

Sam is arguably better then Raiden. Just saying. Love em both, but still.
@@AirlessVent An opinion I can't argue with.
Because I agree with it. Honestly I would love it if there was a spin-off of Metal Gear Rising that focused on Sam more, maybe it would give more insight into him, either way would have been dope.
@@AirlessVent Sam has little to no cybernetic enhancments, he can double jump in mid air, and is clearly superior to Raiden.
now imagine if Sam had cybernetic enchancements? He'd be overpowered.
@@WednesdayMan yeah, I know. Seriously though, Sam had the best his fight. His theme was great. And he's Brazilian (from what I've gathered,) which is rare to see in movies and games. Everything about him spoke awesomeness
My brain during the exam:
Memories broken, the task goes unsolven
I've even forgotten my name
I don't know the season or what is the reason
I'm sitting here holding my pen
A desolate room (room)
Without much time (time)
It's only the cold hands I feel
It's me that I spite as I sit down and write
The only thing I know for real
There will be grades (grades) done (done)
The man in the mirror calls me dumb
The only one (one) left (left)
Will finally get a degree
Because the studies don't give back what they take
Oh no, there will be grades (grades) done (done)

Wondering, "Will I pass the test?"

To wish Metal Gear Rising it's 10 Year Anniversary. I really do love this game a lot, and I'm surprised that it's already been 10 years.
Jetstream Sam is probably hands down my favourite character in MGR and all the memes that were made of him were truly beautiful.
Cheers you incredible people for bringing the game back to life in 2022.
Cheers.
Let’s go
A little late, but cheers anyway

Memento mori
The lyrics of this track aligns with Sam's character perfectly. Pure art. This game is a fucking masterpiece, man. I will forever hate Konami for not making a sequel to Metal Gear Rising.
And since Kojima is not even there anymore there may even not be any, except if they want to just milk the franchise in a shitty way
I have a dream that, one day, KONAMI will surprise us with Metal Gear RR2 and maybe Metal Gear VI.
@@kokomello2858 Kojima didn't direct this game though. An MGR2 is still unlikely because Konami hates making videogames
@@niko1600 bielieve it or not, but koijma did write the base storyline and direction, so without him and his assistant we wont ever get the same experience

Genuinely one of the greatest boss fights of all time
Sam: "Let's dance!"
Dante: "Let's rock!"

It doesn’t matter how old this game will be down the line, I feel it’ll still be around for a long ass time. The internet won’t allow it to die.
I recently saw a colaboration tribute to f-ing Sonic ADVENTURE 2! That game is 21 years old. If that game lasted so long in the public eye then this has to be eternal.
Technolog will evolve enough to make cyber samurais real and people will legit play this while fighting.
