Just finished your video and i am i feel so overwelmed. Left a comment earlier befor seeing the end. Hermanplatz, Rathaus Neukölln my old neigborhood. I knew how bad it is cause i still read german news/forums. But seeing the cops arest the woman with the cardboard on Hermanplatz or the candels beeing stept on. What a insanity. (Germaness) Thank you for your work. Stay safe… Take care!
“Instead of feeling bad or guilty, there’s something else you should feel instead; anger. Anger that you live in a country that props itself up on the destruction and death of people all over the world, anger that no matter which way you vote, and which way you express your disapproval, at best, no one hears you and nothing changes, and at worst, you’re met with state violence.” As an American… that hit home.
Germany has both. Capitalism and socialism mixed, liked most of Europe. Or actually most of the world. Nowhere is there a purely free capitalist country nor is there a purely socialist country. Even the communist Chinese government allows some capitalism because they know that otherwise they would be like north Korea.
@@josesuokas217 You can't really have "a little bit" of socialism. It's a pretty unique way to organize a country and an economy and as a German I can tell you that we don't have it here.
@@LennyFaceLarrythey’re referring to social policies. Robust public goods payed for by taxes. School, healthcare, maternity leave, etc. You absolutely can have social policies in a capitalist country (it’s just not ideal because you’re constantly having to fight off the capitalist interest of consuming all of the money and privatizing all of the goods)
I read books about Nazis who fled after the war, and I wish I didn't in a way, because I also understood there was a gigantic network to save these nazis. I've also notice a huge admiration for this Churchill character. If you dare to criticize this figure, many british can get angry.
There is a huge network to save Js and mus lims, too. That is more depressing. And Churchill is a national hero to the British. Stop hating white people!
Were the fascist governments of Spain and Portugal carrying out ethnic cleansing on an industrial scale with expansionist ambitions for the rest of Europe?
Lebensraum and Manifest Destiny are totally different! For example, one is spoken in German and the other in English. Couldn’t be more different really. - conservative western historians
I'm one of the algorithm'ers, but loved the video. Would highly recommend Adam Curtis's "The Living Dead" 3 part series on the same concept: the failure of denazification and the role of capitalist hegemony in subverting the need for an ongoing denazification process
No matter what facts state, there will always be one person or a group of people who are in denial of a country's dark past or the past sins of the country
Its not really that Germans are in denial of the past. Actually the whole oposite. Especially the Shoa and the suffering of the jews in particular. One could argue that this took such extreme forms that, like the examples in the end of the video show, that jews can be persecuted again if they “are the wrong jews”. I had to so often think about Herman Göhrings famous qoute: “wer Jude ist bestimme ich”. (I decide who is a jew). Espacially in context of liberal/lefty over indendification with Israel. Now Palestinians and pro pal. Jews disturbe this fragile ballance of german “Selbstbild”. “Die Kraft die Gutes will und Böses schafft.” Ghoete / Faust

about the NSU thing: one of the murders commited by the NSU was a man shot dead at an internet cafe. what's crazy about it? the shooter was an NSU informant who was in that internet cafe to meet his contact person, an actual Verfassungsschutz agent. here is the story as officially put by the Verfassungsschutz, after it was found out: the internet cafe had an entrance room with a desk where customers would pay and then a seperate room with all the PCs the Verfassungsschutz agent was in the PC room waiting for the informant the informant arrived, shot the guy at the desk dead, which the agent did not hear the informant then, after just murdering someone in the other room, went into the PC room to talk to the agent then both of them left, through the entrance room, and the agent did not notice the dead person behind the counter. by the way: the counter was not particularly wide. it was literally impossible to walk through the room and not see the dead victim. the agent did not even report this murder that he was personally present for to the police. this was only found out after the Verfassungsschutz was forced to reveal some of their files. also: the reason why the german police took literal years to find out there was even a nazi murder ring was that when the victims were killed, the police assumed them being business owners with migration background means they must be related to organised crime and got killed by competition. yes, that is literally what the official stance was on the damn flower seller who was selling flowers from the back of his god damn van. with ZERO evidence, they just assumed he must be part of organised crime.
@@BasedGauncho Not really: On 31 January 1939, Roosevelt called a secret meeting at the White House with the Senate Military Affairs Committee to inform them of the existence of the French military mission.[50] In an "off-the-record" comment, Roosevelt stated: "As soon as one nation dominates Europe, that nation will be able to turn to the world sphere...That is why the safety of the Rhine frontier does necessarily interest us".[50] The remark was leaked to the press, which misquoted Roosevelt's comment as being "America's frontier is on the Rhine", and ignited an uproar.[50] On the defensive, Roosevelt was forced to drop his plans to revise the Neutrality acts.
It took me a while to be able to fully watch the video but I think you may have made one of the most comprehensive essays on the subject of not only the history which has led to the current situation in Germany but in general Europe, but also how the spectre of fascism was never truly stamped out. A similar history to the one of Germany is what currently also happened and goes on in Greece with the ever existent present of fascist and collaborators in government institutions and the political stage. The "crusade against communism" is what led to multiple decades of fascist and authoritarian regimes to rule over and to erase the history of those who committed the crimes and exterminations of so many to the point of the return of those ideas as "valid alternatives". And with the current government and most of the opposition being pro Israel, it shows that no matter how liberal one shows themselves, the interests of the military industrial complex and of the status quo rules over all show of care and empathy. Our days and age is but the era where history is repeated under a veil of liberalism and democracy that hides the rotting corpse of capitalism and imperialism as it continues to allow and push for the desecration of the working class. As you said in the end, anger is a true feeling one must fuel themselves if they wish to see change and true humanity come to the foreground. For it is the fuel to rise and protest against allowing such genocide to continue and for society to think of other humans as lower than them. Hopefully with effort things will begin to change and for the people to rise, only through our work can this be accomplished.
Thank you for your comment, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I am not super familiar with the situation in Greece right now but I would like to educate myself about it, do you have any book/video/website recommendations to understand it better?
@@antonioalexander1While a lot of information on the deeper aspects of Greek history are lacklusterly translated, theres plenty of information on the modern rise of fascism in Greece. For starters, a great documentary is Golden Dawn: A Personal Affair, which looks into the history of the party and its rise: ua-cam.com/video/4P8gyTPy-kM/v-deo.html Along with this paper showing the further expansion of different ideologies of fascism in Greece post their downfall and declaration as a criminal syndicate: journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/20419058211000999 www.humanrights360.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/The-Rise-and-Fall-of-Golden-Dawn_Eleni-Takou.pdf The problem with sadly greek sources is that they are rarely translated or academic papers are behind paywalls in regards to the history of Interwar Greece and its transition from Metaxism (A Syncretic version of Italian fascism), to the authoritarian military regimes and unstable governments propped up by the UK and US and the military junta of the 60s-70s. A pretty clear sign of its anti-communist and authoritarian history when it comes to the Greek state is the recognition of the National Resistance (a major force of communist guerrilas and partisans called EAM and ELAS who liberated Greece without foreign forces) only in the 1970s after the fall of the Junta. As you said in the end of your video, a great movie to see such a vast history of Greece and to see the divisions and historical aspects of authoritarianism and anti-communism is the Travelling Players. It is a great starter to get a more personal idea from the view of the people of the different eras and politics: archive.org/details/the.-travelling.-players.-1975.-drama-history.-720p.x-264-classics I would be more than willing to assist you further with reading as I find more translated to English if you wish as Greece was but a microcosm of the wider geopolitical theater of the Cold War and the influence and wishes of the West despite what it may cause. I hope these are good start.
Yup. Same as in Croatia and Serbia where they are rehabilitatating Nazi collaborators (Ustase, in Croatia, Chetniks in Serbia). Then again, we see the same thing happening in Ukraine. Zelensky has banned opposition and essentially killed the unions and they are rehabbing Bandera and other Ukranian Nazis. Then you have the likes of Meloni in Italy, Orban in Hungary...and you realize it's the same old sh*t again.
This is a important video , be careful of comments replying in bad faith! Be careful of people who will only seek to argue meaninglessly. The information in this video is well presented, and you provide much empathy to the victims of violence. Good luck!
Idk man I think the fascist countries kind of got bombed into rubble and occupied and demilitarized, and fascism was throughly discredited by post war economic success. The only people who won WW2 were Stalin and the American arms industry.
Carlin was WRONG !. Communism was the beneficiary of WW2. Why not, both the war in Europe AND the Pacific were the successful result of long term Soviet policy's to create them, to allow the Soviets to recreate the conditions prevailing at the end of WW1, and allow them to once again try to invade and occupy Europe as in 1919-1920 when they tried and unexpectedly failed to defeat Poland which was to be the first domino to fall.

First of all, fascinating video and particularly useful as I'm studying 20th century Germany in school at the moment. A note on East German denazification: I very much agree that they were too sure of themselves in their denazification efforts. One glaring flaw was in the way they brushed over East Germans' involvement in Nazism, very much painting it as a West German phenomenon- part of their history, but not that of East Germany. But of course it was part of their history. In the East, they buried it with lots of socialist ideas, but forcibly repressing Nazi history without confronting it head-on and instead behaving as if it was what the West Germans did was not conducive to truly learning from it and combatting Nazism. Later, as the GDR was declining, it became a 'cool' rebellious thing to be a Neo-Nazi among some teens and young adults. The issue with pretending Nazism didn't happen 'over here', and mainly focusing on how it's anti-socialist and- crucially- anti-state, is that it then negates the opportunity to learn about its horrors and *why* it's a horrendous ideology. Instead, people see how neo-Nazis are the only people standing up to the state, and if you see the state as oppressive and don't understand Nazism as a dark part of your own history, then it makes sense that you would turn to those you perceive as being the only 'actual' rebels against the establishment. I can't imagine what it must have been like having to figure out how to denazify most effectively; I still have no clue how I would have done it, or what would have been appropriately effective and simultaneously realistic. But (as we know) the consequences for botching it were dire. Sorry if this didn't make much sense but hopefully got my point across. Vielen Dank
Oh, don't forget to credit the USA with allowing lots of Nazis to survive and thrive in '45. They were "needed" for NASA, the CIA, and industry. The Nazis had a lot to teach the US government, and they learned well. (of course, Hitler learned a lot about racism and eugenics from the US pre-WW2, so fair is fair)
Ironic for azteca sociopolitical kukoles who only didn't side with Germany because they would have got bodied and believed they should be under them 😂. But didn't mind when imposing on if they got their shits pushed then it's alright for others 😂
@@germandavidurdanetacarruyo9816 that's where critical thinking skills come into play. One can aknowledge both fact that stalinist USSR was a ruthless and dictatorial regime which brought about the death of millions, and at the same time recognize that the USA and all around wealthy elites were complicit in the rise of fascism and letting many nazis escape their crimes.
oh god. i’m turkish, and living all my life in america, i’ve never considered my ethnicity as “oppressed”. in the us (or at least in my experience) as long as we’re white, we’re considered “basically european”. and the us isn’t very aware of western vs eastern europe conflicts, so all europeans are pretty much viewed as the same group of people. hate crimes against middle eastern people are typically done against muslim, arab, or non-white middle easterners, and my family is neither of the latter (and we barely practice islam). it’s insane hearing about the murders of eight turkish people. i never hear about the ethnicities of victims, just their race and/or religion. but now i identify with them. they could’ve been any member of my family. (i don’t speak for all turkish americans ofc, i’m just sharing my thoughts as a young (and white) person who grew up in liberal urban/suburban areas of the us)
It's why Hasanabi constantly talks about how he is a white man. Because he doesn't get called a "filthy Muslim" on the street because he's white passing. A Turk born closer to the border of Armenia however will have a visibly darker skin and wouldn't be a white person in the US. That said, when people hear his name is "Hasan" they instantly start forming those racist beliefs if they have them and just didn't exhibit them cos he's white. It's that interesting type of thing where your actual background is mostly irrelevant in terms of the discrimination you experience, it's what others perceive of you. For example, Sikhs getting hatred for being Muslims, Vietnamese people getting called Chinese, etc etc. It doesn't matter the truth, it matters the perception. Same way some cishet men have been hate crimed for being gay, just because they were slightly effeminate and were perceived as gay
@neverlookback1244 that's entirely dependent on where they are in Turkey. A lot in Istanbul are white enough to pass as white in a BOLO. However southern and eastern Turks are absolutely brown, though they're not Arab as you would likely believe either, they're Turkic, Arabs stem from the region that was known as Arabia, which is where you get your Syria, Iraq, etc Basically Arabs stem from the Semetic areas of the middle east, while Turkic stems from the steppes. However where does "white" originate? Who counts as white? Historically Italians and Irish weren't white, now they are. White is the description of someones skin colour, as such, there's plenty of white Turkic people (white Arabic people are way less likely/common)
It's funny how people call national socialists "leftists" and "socialists" when in our time libertarians stand against anyone's freedom except those who already has power. Words can mean different things...
The Zone of Interest was a good film to watch. I watched this film at the cinema and this film was so eerie, and I recommend reading a Manga Monster set talk about post-War Germany and Neo-Nazism.
I'm German Polish and I live in Neukölln. The stuff I see happening here daily just makes me sick. Innocent people detained and endless police cars spread around. It's disgusting what is happening around Europe, people never learn.
Absolutely right! You know, cops in Britain are detaining people who try to use their free speech right, speaking against... You know... International experts in Rocket Science, who come to Europe on boats and stab people. That's disgusting! Leave the innocent people be, it's their culture!
As an American and a historian, it is my lifelong goal to help my fellow Americans understand that the Nazis were directly inspired by American settler colonialism and racial segregation.
52:27 Helmut Schmidt was never a member of the Nazi Party. He was in the Hitler youth but got demoted due to his views. He later served as a Luftwaffe gunner.
“he wasn’t a member of the nazi party, he was just a member of hitler youth and served in the luftwaffe fighting for nazis” if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a duck
He worked for the luftwaffe and his commanding officer made positive remarks on his work. No matter how much you leeway you wanna give the man, he clearly showed no intention of resisting the inhumane regime he objectively was a part of. If you look at some of his later opinions about the power of unions and the "growing thread of overpopulation" or how climate change is blown up by the media, you'll make quick links to modern right wing talking points.
@@RatKingKitKat the video claimed he was a card carrying member of the Nazi party. That is a lie. There were several famous lower ranking Wehrmacht members who didn’t agree ideologically with the party’s tenets, and several weren’t aware of the holocaust. Why do you think they showed the video to the soldiers? Why do you think the reaction was so negative? Also, Hitler Youth was mandatory for every German schoolchild. Joseph Ratzinger, better known as Benedict the 16th, was a Hitler Youth, but he never attended any meetings.
This actually puts in context for me the time I was visiting my family over in Bonn - I was on my way back from the "House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany" ("Haus der Geschichte" in German, it's a pretty interesting place) decided to just walk the distance back to my relatives when on the ground I noticed a whole lot of pamphlets strewn about. Being interested in looking at political pamphlets, posters and the like due to my Russian heritage and sudden interest in German politics, I decided to pick them up and try to translate them the rest of my way back. What was it about? Well, what did you expect: a secret plot, conducted by ANTIFA (who, despite their disorganized nature being a fundamental principle) were somehow controlling the world government. At that point, instead of feeling horror or dread (you know, being a Russian, a social democrat, pro trade union, anti-nationalist and anti-Nazi, an immigrant, and an anti-special military operation person, probably the "internationalist" ANTIFA they're talking about), I basically started laughing - it's the same old Judeo-Bolshevik conspiracy garbage my birth country got invaded over, repackaged and sent back out for consumption by the German populace! The more things appeared to "change," the more nothing actually changed at all. It felt like a moment straight out of a classic satire film.
Absolutely. The gigantic contrast between the capitalists and the communists really shows who's who and where to stand. Listen to the GDR national Anthem "Resurrected from ruins", written by the composer Hanns Eisler returning from exile. It'll move you to tears.
@@valveda1160 Tell that to the countries that were illegally annexed by the soviet union, or to the polish resistance fighters who were sent to siberia or shot because they were considered a threat to the communist regime. @@greenberg1539 Israel doesn't represent jews, it represents zionism. Hitler partnered with the Zionists and relocated 60,000 german jews to a land called Palestine before the Second World War. Israel did not exist at this time, but Hitler sure helped usher it into existence. Nazis and Zionists are one and the same. There was an agreement in 1933 between Nazi Germany and German Jews who are Zionists. The goal was to encourage the emigration of Jews to Palestine by making it easier to take property with them.
Amazing video. Great job. It's amazing how the poison of the past is still lingering, i had no idea how deep it ran. It's infuriating to see hate destroying the new generations while the perpetrators just continue to gain more power
This video is so well made and put together and talks about things I have thought of for years. I’m surprised at the view count, you deserve to go viral. Really great stuff here.
The Empire was a net global positive. Some inherent privilege didn't give us any advantage over others; achievement did. And that we should wear with pride.
@@DC2007A Disagree. I do not believe that someone like Cecil Rhodes, ruler of the Cape Colony and a businessman in mining, was ever interested in what you call a global positive, especially not for people who he called "the most despicable specimens of human beings" while believing that English people were a superior race.
@Worldmisery Rhodes was a saint and true hero of the Empire, building infrastructure and enriching the Empire to a degree previously never thought possible. As per a superior people, look at Rhodesia. Under the rule of Ian Smith and the British settlers it thrived and was the breadbasket of Africa. Under Mugabe it took no time to regress to a society devoid of technology and output. The Africans inherited a functioning turn-key society and look at it now. Same with Haiti. Meanwhile the Singaporeans have a higher GDP per capita than British subjects today.
Excellent video! Depressing outcome, though. It's less "we don't learn from our mistakes." and more "we refuse to recognize our mistakes." It feels like the world is moving further and further in this trend.
Nazism isn't a "mistake". It's a deliberate crime, as is actively pursing the same goals with their help : exploit slave labour and destroy the worker's movements. Information and knowledge are useless (the FDR was 100% aware and willing). One side has to crush the other. The fascists know that very well and that's why they wasted precious ressources and manpower to obliterate communism.
i know that adding subtitles is probably a huge effort on your end, but it would be a huuge help to those who are HoH or deaf or just learn better through reading it would open this video up to a wider audience, and make for a better experience overall, i feel (i am basically telling you your own business, so feel free to ignore me lol) (i really love the video!! it's vv well put together and argued)
Every country has a far right element (and Nazis and Nazi supporters were everywhere then, and continued with the same ideology after their demise - with umpteen Neo Nazi groups since). The Nazis were just that, in power, at a time and place where they could get a handhold on power and run with it. It can happen anywhere under certain circumstances and thinking the ideology died with them is a massive mistake. Ideologies don't die, they just go in and out of favour.
I really hate that ideologies are basically deathless. They can only ever be born, but they can never die, even when they absolutely, totally should. I guess the only silver lining is that not all ideologies are bad, so it's nice that they get to live forever, but the fact that many unambiguously evil ideologies _also_ get to live forever as long as there are people with minds to entertain them is incredibly discouraging.
@@miro.georgiev97 Me too. Our documentation of our times is so complete now that anything with some cultural effect will ripple through the future for ages. That is both incredibly positive, incredibly negative, has incredible educational function, and equal possibility to misinform and damage too. I generally have the view that casting light on things will always be better than looking away but that depends on having some faith in humans to take the good and see the bad and all that. That can all be manipulated too, or sensibilities and mores can change. I suppose we can't control the future and, across that far future stretching into infinity, then everything good and bad will happen.
But hopefully we avoid some Nazi-inspired, far right regimes in our own time and the coming generations know enough history to steer clear as well (in the main, there'll always be extremists, unfortunately).
@@e4arakonnobody in any Anglo-American country learns the literal pronunciation of Weimar or Dachau (unless they learn German). Reichstag is extremely easy to pronounce and most if not all Anglo-Americans can pronounce it fairly easily. It’s their alphabet, not ours.
alice weidel claiming that hitler was a communist when all he did was spread anti communist rhetoric is just so ridiculous and she should be taken accountable for lying about german history .
Why should you feel guilt about something you did not do? You should remember and feel responsible for that not happening ever again. But no one is guilty of something their ancestors did. Kin liability is an antiquated moral concept and also something that the NSDAP utilized by itself.
german born and raised, while I was always quick to call out the american hypocrisy it really took recent years to see my own biases much clearer and also acknowledge the underlying white supremacism shaping a lot of our current politics, including blindly supporting the genocide of the gazan people while blaming Hamas for everything.
jews are not white. jewish supremacy is not 'white supremacy' in fact its verry anti-white. germans owe that criminal people NOTHING. they owe third world invaders NOTHING either. germany belongs to germans. their the indigenous people of the land. these other groups should leave germany and leave the german people alone.
As germans we already support israel bcs of our past. Hamas, the palestinian arabs and islamic representatives are or were sympathetic toward those very dark and right wing ideologies. Supporting Israel in that conflict is sensible bcs any solution calling for a palestinian state ignores what the single purpose of that state would be, that there are already four arab states bordering israel that partially are on the territory formerly named palestine. And that its people are in no way different to those claiming to be of a different nationality.
Please continue making this kind of content. It's very much needed in the current age. I'm sorry about all the Nazi, christo-nationalist freaks in your comment section.
@@ShaNaNa242being called insane 100 years ago is more of an indictment of most countries’ political climates then than anything about me or op. Just because it was endemic in the past doesn’t mean it was at all good. Also, like the video and op said, there’s still a bunch of people who are way too comfortable with the ideas discussed. Just because they’re still many doesn’t make them any more right. Call us insane now if you must, but that’s not how politics works.
Holy Sh. I thought I knew all this but by the 1 hour mark I had my jaw on the floor. I didn't realise it was this bad. Obviously all communists know of this issue, but I never imagined that it seriously was this on the nose. It's no wonder we are where we are today. Comrade, excellent video.
1:12:40 I can only speak from my own experience, but the entirety of the failure of the Weimar Republic and Hitler's rise to power was covered very extensively in my history class in the early 2010s. In fact, the conditions that allowed fascism to rise, the means by which the Nazis took power and the atrocities of their regime took up much more space than any other single topic and certainly a lot more than the war as a military conflict.
It's quite clear to me that when Netanyahu says that it was a muslim's idea, it's not about his beliefs, it's about how he spins his agenda. This message seems to be specifically tailored to the general public of the west who doesn't know this part of history, and proceeds to fill in the gap himself with something blatantly false. He probably says something different to the Isreali media, where the people are far more likely to know that it's bullshit, so he focuses on something else. Of course, I have no confirmation about this, and I've been trying to find information or direct translations but haven't seen much yet. I suspect it because it's the same thing Putin has been doing as of late, as his focus on justification for his war in Ukraine is different depending on who he's talking to. To Western audiences, usually it's more focused on Ukraine haboring fascists or NATO aggression, while to his own crowd in Russia, it's more focused on how Ukraine doesn’t have any separate cultural identity. Both are untrue or, at the very least, wildly overstated narratives, yet each is more believable to a different crowd.
I don't think you are correct to assume the Israeli public would be better informed. Hasbara is strong. Zionism was an entire movement of cultural erasure and rewriting.
This is super underrated for how thoroughly researched, well argued and clearly and effectively articulated it is. This is one of the best video essays I’ve seen on the history and current permutations of fascist politics. Stand out job, my dude. Keep these coming, you’ll break through the algorithm yet!
I broke out laughing when you brought up the insane gun culture in the US, as I had my AR-15 broken down on my desk for cleaning while watching your video. Great video btw, very well researched!
Pretty much the same thing happened in Japan, too. Really, I kind of feel bad for the Italians, they really got the short end of the stick on WW2 being the only loser.
hey, i mean at least japan had an atomic bomb dropped on them and is not using their past to victimize another group of ppl somewhere else. i would take that over whatever tf germany is doing
@@lunali7209 the atomic bombs have, in fact, saved the japanese ruling class from true justice. the dropping of the bombs finally served as justification for inconditional surrender to the americans - which was clearly preferable to having to fight with (and capitulate to) the oncoming red army - that had already liberated manchuria, korea and sakhalin island. the atomic bombs ended up leaving the japanese monarchy and its ruling classes intact by doing this - and, as such, this would go on to form a japan after the war that, ruled mostly by the same rulers, denied its crimes. japan to this day has not aknowledged most of its crimes and anti-chinese and anti-korean sentiments are still prevalent. for example, shinzo abe, prime minister of japan for many years in this century and recently assassinated, was the grandson of nobusuke kishi, who was also prime minister of japan, but, mainly was a colonial bureaucrat and known violent leader in japanese-occupied manchuria and minister of hideki tojo - the japanese prime minister during the war and one of the few japanese to have been judged after it.
Its actually insane how much japans ww2 history is centered around the atom bomb, leaving their atrocities unremarked and germans have guilt pride - never again, just being about jews and not really learning much beyond that.
Don't. The Nuremberg and Tokyo trials were just for show, but Italy didn't have even that. The few fascists that got properly punished were those that the partisans managed to extrajudicially kill in the chaotic days after the liberation. All others received a blanket amnesty and got away absolutely scot free and remained in their positions. The industrialists that promoted the rise of fascism also got away with it untouched. We also never addressed the causes of fascism, and since we were invaded by the Nazis and suffered atrocities, we very conveniently swept under the rug the ones we inflicted ourselves abroad (only historians and history buffs know about them). In a way, we were treated even better than Germany and Japan, and that's saying something.
As a German living in Germany at the moment, I am so incredibly thankful for the time and effort you put into making this. Memories of history classes in school pop up in my head, where we discussed “How all of this (Nazi Germany, as if it is something in the past) could have happened. How people didn’t know and just followed what they were told. How we now remember the past” I feel disgusted for everything that is used to trivialise the severity of what happened and continues to happen. And I feel ashamed for not realising sooner how Germans never took responsibility and how I, even though my parents are (white) migrants themselves, kept tolerating so much bigotry all around me and within myself. I have always considered myself a leftist, but you really helped shift something in me that fuels my anger but also my motivation to act against it all in all the small ways that I can. Thank you 🖤❤️
Germans paid a huge toll and took responsibility, still do to this day - no idea what makes you say they never took responsibility. They are so open to migration now, so pro-israel that it's almost laughable. It's not only denazification, but absurd pacification and to an unhealthy degree. And i concede, that, while understandable (given german history), backing up israel so unwaveringly is a huge problem.
@@ninjawizard3865did you watch the video at all? There seems to be a trend of the worst, shittiest people being opposed to communism. I wonder why that propaganda is so pervasive amongst the ruling elite/predatory class 🤔
William Faulkner said, "The past isn't dead. It isn't even past." During the post-WW II era, the Golden Age of prosperity and rising fortunes in the West, it appeared that the ugliness of the first half of the twentieth century had passed, but that has proved to be an illusion. As Faulkner says, the past never really dies, it lives on in the hearts and minds of those who lived through the period, and it gets passed on to the succeeding generations. The darkness that dominated the globe in the 1930's and 40's seems to have emerged again, and it's frightening. At least, I find it frightening. For the first time in my 70 years, I'm afraid of the future.
@@sparrowprince3432 Actually, that's not true. First, 70 years is not so old these days; most of us who are lucky enough to live in prosperous societies live to be 100 now. Secondly, we old folks do care very much about the generations that come after us - they are our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the thought of what they may have to endure can create a lot of anguish for us. 18:29 I love it when people make the connection between the Nazi Lebensraum and the settler colonialism in the so-called americas, so called australia (etc). it really highlights the double standards of 'the west' have, especially the settler colonies themselves, when they condemn the Nazis, the settler colonies are built on what the Nazis were doing, while acting as if settler-colonialism has an end point other than decolonization. I guess you could also say that they are merely condemning the watered down version of the Nazis that you mentioned in section 1. Mind you I'm writing this after only just hearing settler colonialism being mentioned
i love the "if u keep calling things that are verifiable as 'communist propaganda,' what does that say about communists?" it is such a banger. greetings from the marxist-leninist movement in the u.s., and sister organization of arbeit zukunft!
This makes me extremely hopeless, but I am glad that I could learn about all of this, since my teachers in schools of course never taught me any of this.
This 9:37 IS important. Also, because Hitler and Stalin had signed a Peace Treaty, Russia and Germany had not agreed to the Geneva Convention. So while American POWs were treated acceptably, Russian POWs were housed in Concentration Camps (which were for extermination but first served as a labor force for the Nazi War effort. The permanent sign on the front gate of Auschwitz has the words "Work Shall Set You Free").
This is one of the best videos I have yet seen on this app to describe a polity. Love from America, the similarities are striking between Germany and the United States.
So I translated “Wer Deutschland liebt, ist Antisemit” and it translated to “Anyone who loves Germany is an anti-Semite” is a pretty loaded sentence of its own right.
Technically it's more under the dynamic that they still push such things with their former partners as if they weren't a part of axis( cough turkey cough)
This video is brilliantly done. Unfortunately the more and more I learn about how the the massive failure that was German denazification the less I want to move there. For context I'm a black American that really doesn't like the direction the states is heading. Do you think the recent hate crimes in Germany are stemming from a xenophobic or a racist place?

Its not really that Germans are in denial of the past. Actually the whole oposite. Especially the Shoa and the suffering of the jews in particular. One could argue that this took such extreme forms that, like the examples in the end of the video show, that jews can be persecuted again if they “are the wrong jews”. I had to so often think about Herman Göhrings famous qoute: “wer Jude ist bestimme ich”. (I decide who is a jew). Espacially in context of liberal/lefty over indendification with Israel. Now Palestinians and pro pal. Jews disturbe this fragile ballance of german “Selbstbild”.

about the NSU thing:
one of the murders commited by the NSU was a man shot dead at an internet cafe.
what's crazy about it? the shooter was an NSU informant who was in that internet cafe to meet his contact person, an actual Verfassungsschutz agent.
here is the story as officially put by the Verfassungsschutz, after it was found out:
the internet cafe had an entrance room with a desk where customers would pay and then a seperate room with all the PCs
the Verfassungsschutz agent was in the PC room waiting for the informant
the informant arrived, shot the guy at the desk dead, which the agent did not hear
the informant then, after just murdering someone in the other room, went into the PC room to talk to the agent
then both of them left, through the entrance room, and the agent did not notice the dead person behind the counter.
by the way: the counter was not particularly wide. it was literally impossible to walk through the room and not see the dead victim.
the agent did not even report this murder that he was personally present for to the police. this was only found out after the Verfassungsschutz was forced to reveal some of their files.
also: the reason why the german police took literal years to find out there was even a nazi murder ring was that when the victims were killed, the police assumed them being business owners with migration background means they must be related to organised crime and got killed by competition. yes, that is literally what the official stance was on the damn flower seller who was selling flowers from the back of his god damn van. with ZERO evidence, they just assumed he must be part of organised crime.

For starters, a great documentary is Golden Dawn: A Personal Affair, which looks into the history of the party and its rise:

Along with this paper showing the further expansion of different ideologies of fascism in Greece post their downfall and declaration as a criminal syndicate:

www.humanrights360.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/The-Rise-and-Fall-of-Golden-Dawn_Eleni-Takou.pdf
The problem with sadly greek sources is that they are rarely translated or academic papers are behind paywalls in regards to the history of Interwar Greece and its transition from Metaxism (A Syncretic version of Italian fascism), to the authoritarian military regimes and unstable governments propped up by the UK and US and the military junta of the 60s-70s.
It is a great starter to get a more personal idea from the view of the people of the different eras and politics:

Vielen Dank

oh god. i’m turkish, and living all my life in america, i’ve never considered my ethnicity as “oppressed”. in the us (or at least in my experience) as long as we’re white, we’re considered “basically european”. and the us isn’t very aware of western vs eastern europe conflicts, so all europeans are pretty much viewed as the same group of people. hate crimes against middle eastern people are typically done against muslim, arab, or non-white middle easterners, and my family is neither of the latter (and we barely practice islam). it’s insane hearing about the murders of eight turkish people. i never hear about the ethnicities of victims, just their race and/or religion. but now i identify with them. they could’ve been any member of my family.
You're not the "right" kind of white to them... Even in the states you tan easy, you're a target.
Turks are not white stop begging it
@@neverlookback1244 valid... race makes no sense anyways.
@neverlookback1244 that's entirely dependent on where they are in Turkey. A lot in Istanbul are white enough to pass as white in a BOLO. However southern and eastern Turks are absolutely brown, though they're not Arab as you would likely believe either, they're Turkic, Arabs stem from the region that was known as Arabia, which is where you get your Syria, Iraq, etc
Basically Arabs stem from the Semetic areas of the middle east, while Turkic stems from the steppes.
However where does "white" originate? Who counts as white? Historically Italians and Irish weren't white, now they are. White is the description of someones skin colour, as such, there's plenty of white Turkic people (white Arabic people are way less likely/common)
Judging by these recent comments, you seem to have upset some nazis. Great video!

Man I cooked, ate, washed dishes and cleaned the kitchen while watching your video and what an amazing experience it was
It's quite clear to me that when Netanyahu says that it was a muslim's idea, it's not about his beliefs, it's about how he spins his agenda.
@@EasyWater It's actually insane that Japan's crimes were comparable to the Nazis', and they still mostly got away with it, even in the public eye.
How we now remember the past”
I feel disgusted for everything that is used to trivialise the severity of what happened and continues to happen.
Thank you 🖤❤️
ich sympatisiere mit manchen Aspekten des Nationalsozialismus.wie findest du das

Don’t be absurd. You’re 70 years old and are on your way out. YOU have nothing to worry about.
Don't be so resentful of the elderly - you will be one of them all too soon!
@@elizabethmorton4904 Oh, you got me all wrong. I WANT to be one of the elderly, so I can check out of here all the sooner. I envy your old age, as I can't stand it here. Perhaps you wish to live to 100, but not me.

An incredibly important and well written video. Subscribed.
Easily the best video on the subject.
I don't know if you're genuinely a Nazi apologist or just try to throw in a factoid you think is true, but this really doesn't make Nazis look better
This is one of the best videos I have yet seen on this app to describe a polity. Love from America, the similarities are striking between Germany and the United States.
Ohhh shit. As a German, I was not blind to this. But I never connected the dots.

@@ItsCattsifyTheOnly without a doubt. I've personally experienced and seen this in the street from people on the street.
