Connections authors when they find out a word has a completely dead and unknown meaning that no one has even used since the 1700s
I still got it because I knew the other 3 and “yen” sounded plausibly close to “yearn”.
Not to mention they put it in the category they labeled as the “easiest”
legitimately surprised to see this reaction. it's a fairly common word that is not even close to obsolete (and which didn't exist until the 1900s). usually used in the form of "a yen for [whatever]". keep an eye out and you will see it in articles, books, tweets, whatever

Crossword puzzles use yen in that context pretty often. That's the only place I've ever seen it used like that.

This connections puzzle infuriated me, but it makes total sense that NL would immediately see all the bond characters. It's interesting to watch him solve puzzles after I have already tried and see his process. I don't think I got ANY category on this one.

Yen is a pretty standard crossword answer for longing/yearning/desiring.
NL is way better than me at most of these, but I feel like I always do better than him at connections. I think he does better with trivia than lateral thinking.
