DIY Sabiki Rod - Will it Work?

I've seen a few videos on making a Sabiki rod out of PVC pipe and the idea intrigued me. I decided that I would build one and see for myself how successful they could be.

The PVC pipe used is way too big and heavy. The Reel use is way too big, this thing would catch large red drum. A smaller push button Zebco would do just fine.

Orange electrical conduit far better.
