  • I've tried several different methods of controlling the pill bug population. Those methods are working, but entirely too slow. I think it may be time to upgrade my weapon of choice. Let's put Sluggo Plus to the test.

I feel you, girl! Pill bugs are awesome and awful at the same time. They love woody mulch and like to hide under it during the hottest part of the day, and the rest of the time they ars busy little decomposers, taking out organic debris, young plants and anything else that is weak-ish (e.g fresh transplants). I use sluggo plus but very sparingly (just 4-5 grains around the plant seems to do the job). Sluggo Plus is pretty indiscriminate and will take out a lot more than pillbugs. I also hear that it is detrimental to worms. So ya, sparingly and only until the plant stabilizes. Good luck!

I never ever noticed the pill bugs until you started showing them. I love that you are sharing your battle. Those bugs were eating overtime in your garden. I'm going to put this product in my journal in case I need it in the future. I'm so happy you were able to figure it out. I know it is super frustrating when you can figure out an issue. 👍😎🌴🌻🌸😀😎🌴👍 - LazyLizLife (We change channel Name)

The pill bugs in my garden have esteem my marigolds, and my newly sprouted seeds (radishes) grrr. Someone said it wasn’t them, my husband thought it was the dog, but this morning I saw them completely covering my marigold!! I squashed them all and felt sooo guilty. I’ll try the Sluggo plus!

Uh oh... just came in from manually doing slug patrol/massacre. They keep eating my clover sprouts and hostas. I didnt know rolly pollies also eat the plants... thought they only ate metals in soil, but this makes sense. Always finding them nearby slugs when I'm patrolling the garden at night.

Very interesting. Sluggo plus seems to be doing the job for you. I hope there are no detrimental affects. We're just going into out wet season here in Oz so, that means Slaters will be back soon. I will look out for Sluggo plus and give it a go. Keep the good work up. Regards Malcolm

GREAT VIDEO! Yea I did not understand wasting beer (rather good or bad beer). Save that DE for the chickens. Glad it worked out for you. Happy gardening!

I’m having this same issue. Gonna try sluggo plus, then after a week, I’m adding beneficial nematodes.

Pillbugs DO EAT PLANTS! They will absolutely mow down your beans and peas and spring greens. My compost is infested with them so I'm treating the whole garden. It also works on grubs, which I also have throughout my compost. Chickens get them pretty good on the surface, but deep down they eat the roots.
    I'll be getting 5lbs asap!!!

I tried this product out but wasn’t as successful as you were. My plants still have leaves chewed on. I know it is those pill bugs because I see them on the plant leaves. I am not sure what product to use now. Glad it worked for you.

actually they are quite helpful in boosting garden activity but be warned they eat cardboard and concrete and dead plants and dead bugs that's all they eat they don't do anything else and they're actually worms

They are not worms. I know it is hard to believe, they are the same family origin with shrimp. And they chew the new sprouts.
