Greek Turkish shared songs - Yiati Thes Na Fighis / Zeytinyagli Yiyemem
Вставка
- Опубліковано 17 жов 2024
- One of most popular dance tunes of the 60s in Greece, Yiati Thes Na Fighis, was based on an older Turkish song. First sung in Greek by Yiota Lydia with lyrics by Kostas Virvos and "composed" by the singer's husband Stratis Attalides, three other versions are also presented here: a Greek American recording by Betty Daskalaki accompanied by two of the greatest instrumentalists of Greek music, Tassos Halkias on clarinet and Bebis Stergiou on bouzouki; a Turkish version recorded in Athens with words to fit the occasion by Ali Ugurlu and first up, Candan Ercetin's recent mixed Turkish Greek recording.
Greeks and Turks have so much in common, like music and the same cuisine. Of course, history made us enemies. But now, somehow, we have to become friends and try to live in peace. No more blood has to be shed. Peace for everyone.
HELEN Kouris Bravo 🙏👏
Peace yes, I agree, absolutely - but drinking similar coffee doesn't makes us similar in any way - sorry. Saying this, though, with positive intentions. However, if Islam hadn't conquered the Eastern Mediterranean, I'd say that we would indeed have much more in common with the Lebanese, Anatolians and Egyptians than with, let's say, the Germans or the Fins. History had other plans, and now we do have more in common with the Nordics. Another thought I have is: peace should be pursued not because we have so much in common. Peace should be pursued in spite of differences. Amen! Gorgeous Music!
@@giorgiastavropoulou6756 Thank you for your information. In a way, I still disagree with you, because I do not think we have much in common with the Scandinavians, Nordics, etcera. We have much more in common with the Turks, Middle Easterners, such as our music, and cuisine , except our religion. And also, with the middle easterners such as the Jordanians, many Lebanese, a minority of Egyptians, we also share our Eastern Orthodoxy. I do not feel that I have much in common with the Nordics, except our humanity, and personally do not have anything against them. I enjoyed our conversation. kali sou maira
@@giorgiastavropoulou6756 Greeks, Turks, Cypriots, Cretans, Italians, we have nothing in common with north europe. And i don't want to have anything in common with those nordics.

The sad part about the Turkish song is, the Greek song is a love song. The Turkish version is not. It was written when Turkey was receiving supplies from the US during the Marshall plan. And the US encouraged a Turkish musician to take the Greek song, and make a song that was anti-Turkish products. Because Turkey produced it's own olive oil and had it's own clothing factories where they printed clothes. The entire song is bashing those products. And had the intention to instead encourage Turks to buy American corn oil and nylon clothing. The first two sentences are literally "Oh, I can't eat olive oil; Oh, I can't wear printed dresses". The Turkish version was later turned a little more into a love song as well. But the original Turkish adaptation was not a love song. That is American capitalism 101 for you.
I’m really intrested in this. (My family had to move to Bursa from Thessaloniki in 1924 because of the agreement). Do you have any reference for that?
reference please!!
It's a so called story. There is no reference or a reality. This argument is only to show Ataturk and Inonu's administration bad
@@ufukzengin2283 how exactly is this related to atatürk's administration, considered that marshall plan happened after 10 years of his death?
@@goktugdonmez2231 because Inonu's rulling was a continue of Ataturk's rulling. Is it sensible to be written as an American imperialism ? It's a folk song which existed in the veins of the folk and then boomed by decades
Bebos Stergio was my Uncle. Greetings from Australia.
Some people in Turkey claim that "Zeytinyağlı Yiyemem" ("I Can't Eat Anything With Olive Oil") was composed "with the order of the Americans" in the 1950s "to denigrate domestic Turkish olive oil".
