Hey all! Meant to finish this video last week but got a lil behind - hope you enjoy and have a good weekend! Also, this is my first time using background music for commentary vods - normally I just use em for guides since they're a shorter. Lemme know what you think and if you'd like it stay in future!
It was good. Also huge thank you. I make these mistakes a lot. I have what I call main healer instinct and sometimes I forget it's not Mercy's job to main heal (Unless the other healer plays off healer and then yes but my Moira and Brig habits tend to override my knowledge of Mercy play in the heat of fights. I try and keep everyone alive and become overly exposed in the process. You and ML7 are the players I follow to help me improve my own gameplay.
Yeah I think the background music was a great addition! Didn’t seem too loud or too soft to me and I think it helps bring the video together. Good times as always!
"My job isn't to heal every bit of damage ever." I think that's something that all mercy players need to understand, I'm always switching targets as soon as they take damage, it's muscle memory I need to fix I guess
Also smart blue beam wins more games and fights than yellow beam. Nowadays, contrary to what most people think, if you have more than 10000 heal/10 min with Mercy you are doing something wrong, and probably you are not assisting offensively and damage boosting properly. I'd say stats for a well rounded Mercy should be close to (all every 10 minutes): 9500 heals, between 12-16 offensive assists, at least 20 defensive assists, and at least 1200 damage amplified. Number of rez does not matter much because quality over quantity but should be at least something close to 5. You can do much better numbers on a smurf if you are experienced Mercy but numbers will drop to something close to that over time and with more hours played. The stats I said for me reflect the best balance between heals and blue beam on a Mercy. You also will notice that a Mercy that has average heals of 10500-11000+ (let's say with more than 100h playing her) usually has poor offensive stats or at least below average. Again, having more heals does not make you a better Mercy, contrary to what people usually think.
My biggest Mercy pet peeve is that most players Plat and below don't realize that Valk allows Mercy to boost or heal multiple players at once, within a certain range. If they would only take advantage of the boost and stay together, lower ranked players would win more matches. Regarding Widow damage boost, Jake did a vid reviewing Moth's gameplay and made the point that Widow is not the best boost option. She has a one shot kill with a headshot so only body shots really benefit from boost damage. At higher ranks, boost isn't all that helpful, etc. It's interesting to see your point of view as well. Both are valid, imo. Thanks for creating helpful Mercy vids we can all learn from!
Thanks for the comment! I'm always super conflicted on the damage-boosting Widow thing, like I can definitely see both sides - I'll check out the jake video
That's what I'm saying about using Valk! I'm constantly switching from gold to plat due to my teammates being separated and whenever I use Valk it's so difficult to really use the value of that Valk for your team to win the fight. I also agree with Widow not being the best for damage boosting since heroes like Ashe has more damage per second than Widow while making those 1 shit headshot kills. Therefore, valuing your team more than boosting Widow
Widow is def not the best target for damageboost, but a great widow player can take advantage of the boost to shoot faster, as the damageboost allows widowmaker to fire with less charge, definitely something that you'd expect from owl level player. But the main advantage of pocketing a widow is the staying power with mercy being able to provide constant sustain. Instead of having widow have to escape for heals when she takes bunch of damage, a mercy can keep widow in threathening position to provide constant pressure on the enemy team and inhibit their movement where widowmaker has line of sight, which is very valuable when you have a good widow in the team. Plus, if the widow ever dies to a countersniper, you are in great position to ress it up immediately, reason why owl teams use mercy with sniper teams.
@@Samochan You actually have a very good point for Widow players to use less charge in order to hit the enemy team hard 👍 only thing that worries me is that you can't really tell how good or bad your Widow player is until minutes later, and within those minutes it's difficult for your second support to heal 4 people at once (depending how good they are or the hero they're playing as). Therefore, putting a disadvantage on your team to having a higher chance to lose fight against the enemy team, but at the same time it depends how good your Widow is that you're boosting who's job is to hit the enemy team as much as possible and as hard as possible. I guess it's really a gamble on your Widow, second support, and your team in whole 😅
I really like that you mentioned the flying across enemies just for healing at the start. I think that’s the most common mistake amongst mercy players (including myself sometimes LOL) I was gonna ask if you prefer Open Q or Role Q, since I have only played Role Q, I did placements when Open Q was first released but haven’t touched it since. But then you said it’s hot garbage so I think I’ll stick to QP and Role Q 💀
"Open Que is a pile of hot garbage and I don't know why I keep playing it." I ask myself the same thing every time I play it: "Why are we still here? Just to suffer?"
I do it just to go Mercy when I feel like playing her lol. Hardly anyone else plays open queue you can get a win if ur good at Mercy and the team picks a decent comp
These videos actually made me vod review myself when I first started playing mercy. Figuring out ways I could have changed a team fight, damage boost opportunities I missed, positioning, lowering deaths, etc. She was definitely the character I excelled at quickly for that reason. I’ve since stopped but honestly want to do it again. I’ve been getting sloppy lol. These types of videos are honestly so entertaining and educational! Love them ✨

Hey Niandra, As you probably know Mercy is currently meta but I’ve been using different healers for some reason. What do you do when Mercy becomes a bit “dull”?
if you have a high tolerance for dogshit, you can always try open queue LOL But yeah, I get what you mean - Mercy's mainly good atm for damage-boosting certain DPS and those certain DPS will start yelling at you if you take your beam off them for a split second, which can sometimes be a frustrating experience
You made me smile when you said that you were wanting to protect your deathless streak. I thought I only did that when I got into those positions but now I don't feel so guilty. I find these types of videos really helpful and much of my improvement has come from learning of you so thank you so much. Thank you for all that you do for the Mercy Overwatch community. You're awesome!
i JUST got into overwatch a few days ago and have been learning Mercy mainly and this helped a lot for how i play in game. you helped fix so many things i was doing wrong thank YOUU
im actually new to overwatch, and since covid has me staying home all day, ive been watching a tone of mercy videos to see how to master her abilities. your videos are so helpful!! i like how you dissect every little thing. im not the best rn, but im going to keep your tips and advice in mind to become one of the best someday lol! (so far, it's working very well!)
Because of your videos I have become a much better Mercy main. I've gotten MUCH better about being a heal bot, usually people I play with know me as a rez machine because when I'm not healing I'm dmg boosting or dealing well needed dmg with the gun. My decision making has improved and there is a significant difference from my plays before and after watching your vids. I just have to say thank you for the tips and commentary they help me and so many other Mercy players! ❤
I'm really glad you talked about the flying across because as a low rank mercy I make that mistake a lot, and I also noticed I look around a lot less then I should. So thank you for this vid!
so i just used some of your tips from different vids on how to become a better mercy, and im actually really proud, i got 19.900 healing in a 14 minutes game ^^ thank you, i got a lot of damage boost in it aswell. So thanks for all the tips and tricks
I don’t know if you already thought of it but you really should be coaching mercy players. You think of so many things at the same time when you play that you might see easily people’s mistakes when they play. Like what you do !!😁
One thing I noticed is that u tend to not look for ur full team as often as u should so then u tend to make more snap/rash decisions to heal them bc u see they are critical (and maybe forget that ana is already beside them or that enemies are across the way) A good habit is not only looking for flanks, but also constantly watching ur whole team and looking for value
Thanks for the feedback! One thing I stress is that Mercy can do her job while looking in any direction she wants but I've noticd I've gotten pretty sloppy on actually following the advice lately so I appreciate the pointer
So one thing I noticed, that I still cannot do for the life of me is when a sniper has a line of sight on my second healer or a squishy, the head down the floor and back to the sniper rez, I still cannot do it. Help? XD
Thank you so much for this you are amazing!!!! You have helped me i watched your vid and it gave me motivation and im trying my hardest to get into plat
This video was really well done. Can I make one small suggestion? The speed of the gameplay seemed a little too fast. You check for flanks a lot, so that fast switching back and forth was kind of bothering my eyes (maybe I'm just too tired today.) It was a really nice video, though. It made me want to go play OW
Question; whats all your settings for Mercy and her ability? Aka what keys are pressed, is GA on toggle, what percentages are her beams at, mouse sensitivity etc etc?
5:00 actually the mistake there was not healing the Widow who was getting bladed. Ana + Mercy heals outheal Dragon Blade. Yes he got damage boosted towards the end, but either Widow would have survived anyway, or the Blade would have run out before he could kill Ana.
It's really cool to see you thought process. I still would have jumped over the entire enemy team to heal a slightly injured hog so I have some room for improvement..😂 Also, will you be getting back to streaming any time soon? I love watching your vods but no pressure if life is just getting in the way😅 Also also, it's so cool seeing you all over the Overwatch community (KarQ, SWB, Kenzo easter egg appearance😉)!!!
When Valking, it's it okay to just damage boost if your second healer is stable with overall healing? Was Vod reviewing my Mercy gameplay and realise I did this one game because our Moira was using her ult to help heal the rest of the team and was stable by herself overall.
Also smart blue beam wins more games and fights than yellow beam. Nowadays, contrary to what most people think, if you have more than 10000 heal/10 min with Mercy you are doing something wrong, and probably you are not assisting offensively and damage boosting properly. Hey Niandra, your videos are so informative :D is there any advice you could give about doing GA super jump while under pressure? I find that super jump is easy enough to do in a calm situation (like while waiting in spawn), but I reaaaaally struggle with it in actual combat situations. I’d also love to hear your views on play making/making game winning moves as Mercy - I’m currently hovering around low/mid masters rank (about 3600-3700SR), and I’ve heard that going into GM/Top 500 does involve being able to consistently perform play making moves, but I’m not sure how one would go about this as Mercy - I’ve felt that playing Mercy feels more like its extremely easy to lose the fight for your team, but it’s up to your teammates to actually win the fight.
I saw myself in one of my Mercy QP in this, mainly the first point GA to heal I also saw myself healing the Widow fron the dragonblade and staling at the defense last point XD
May be it is not working on high SR but i am using widow shot cd to jump. Widow has 0,9 sec cd after a shot and mercy moves 17m per second so jumping around 15m is fine if you start a jump directly when seeng red line. I cant execute it to perfection but it is still enough on many maps
I've been trying to play a bit more Overwatch on Switch so that it wasn't a complete waste of money but I can't aim for shit on consoles so I've been playing a lot of Winston and also really trying to improve my Mercy - these are super great videos, thank you
I always struggle to trust my other support. I frequently die because I don't trust my second support. I do fly to aid teammates because I just don't trust my second to do so.
Video Paused to write this: I am no mercy main nor I play this game anymore. yet I felt like watching a movie and enjoying the narrator. Ssshhhh everyone give me popcorn. Carry on. You stop scrolling down the comments and go up now!
I loved the video about how you’re so observant about everything! Out of many of the other mercy you tubers (Animetic for example), are you friends with any of them personally?
im curious, does horizontal/vertical(?) sensitivity do anything? or does it not matter-? also i love your videos and it has helped me alot! im in gold and im trying to get to gm/top 500
I know I’m literally 1 year late, but if you’re on console, it basically changes the speed of how fast you look left to right or up and down! I usually use a faster sensitivity for Mercy specifically since I like to look around a lot for flanks and keep an eye on both my team and the enemy team! I’d recommend at least 70 Horizontal and 70 Vertical, though I use 90 Horizontal and 90 Vertical! And just in case anyone wants a possible sensitivity / settings for Mercy on console, here’s mine Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity both at 80 100 Aim Assist Strength 70 Aim Assist Window Size 0 Aim Assist Ease In 0 Aim Smoothing 0 Aim Ease In Dual-Zone Toggle Beam Connection: Off Guardian Angel Target Priority: Prefer Beam Target Guardian Angel Sensitivity: 100 Toggle Guardian Angel: Off Beam Sensitivity: 81
I'm super anxious about solo queuing comp but have been wanting to try it.... I was planning on starting with open queue since it seems a little more laid back, but I also remember the pre-rolelock days and the idea is less than appealing 🙃 Thank you for the video!! I definitely needed it. I'm hoping to finally climb through diamond soon!
I heard somewhere that putting your head to the ground doesn't actually change where mercy's head hitbox is because the animation roots you to the spot. So which is true? I haven't seen third person evidence of what it would look like.
I'll try and test it when I have a moment - what I do know is that outside of rez, looking to the floor can hide the head hitbox behind the wings and that also when Mercy rezzes, she raises her hand which can then be in front of the head if at a certain angle. Shit I might have been confusing "looking at floor during rez" with that
Thanks for this, there are so few videos of good players analyzing their thought process during a game. It's very informative but also quite annoying to watch, because it shows me how absolutely clueless I am in my games compared to someone like you. When you say things like "Hog is out of hook and Torb has just used overload, so I...." I realize that I generally have no awareness at all, even after 1500h in the game. This is what I struggle with the most tbh, paying attention to stuff like that in my team and the enemy team.
My brother: You should watch Niandra, she'll really teach you good stuff about mercy. Me: *looks at bro* (-_-) dude, her voice sounds so boring that I think if I watch one of her videos, I might go into a coma. Also me: *watches at 2 pm* wow... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ +1 sub Niandra! Congrats, also no hate, I'm really, really, really loving your channel!
I love meeting nice mercy mains because for some reason every mercy mains Except for a few. always yell at me if I don’t do perfectly and it makes me sad boy
Either it is a mistake or it isn’t. If it is, just own it instead of following it up with some justification or excuse. And if the justification is valid, it isn’t a mistake. Also, compromising decisions in game based on how good your stats will look is selfish and counter-productive. Other than that, interesting guide, helps a lot to understand the thought process behind decisions and positioning, etc.
I would say, in that first scenario, you really didn't make a mistake. It's more of just a coinflip, there's no way to really tell where your most value would lie there. Widow obviously doesn't need the damage boost as she can obtain most kills just as easily without it, it's more for assisting her if she gets pressured, which she does have the mega to fall back on. She got damage boosted headshot so you would've been a sitting duck had you been with her.

Thanks for the kind words!! asdjkljasda sorry about your eyes
The best quote Ive heard about Overwatch: "I hate it, lets play another round"
Question; whats all your settings for Mercy and her ability? Aka what keys are pressed, is GA on toggle, what percentages are her beams at, mouse sensitivity etc etc?
5:00 actually the mistake there was not healing the Widow who was getting bladed. Ana + Mercy heals outheal Dragon Blade. Yes he got damage boosted towards the end, but either Widow would have survived anyway, or the Blade would have run out before he could kill Ana.
bruh, watching mercy makes me nostalgic of quickfix jumping around with a pocket soldier
It's really cool to see you thought process. I still would have jumped over the entire enemy team to heal a slightly injured hog so I have some room for improvement..😂
Also, will you be getting back to streaming any time soon? I love watching your vods but no pressure if life is just getting in the way😅 Also also, it's so cool seeing you all over the Overwatch community (KarQ, SWB, Kenzo easter egg appearance😉)!!!
Me as mercy: 23 deaths, 2300 hundred mistakes
I never play mercy, but,I LOVE your videos!!!
Valk at 10 minutes was so good Ana was licking his lips :D
When Valking, it's it okay to just damage boost if your second healer is stable with overall healing? Was Vod reviewing my Mercy gameplay and realise I did this one game because our Moira was using her ult to help heal the rest of the team and was stable by herself overall.
Also smart blue beam wins more games and fights than yellow beam. Nowadays, contrary to what most people think, if you have more than 10000 heal/10 min with Mercy you are doing something wrong, and probably you are not assisting offensively and damage boosting properly.
IM a widow one-trick yet i still binge-watch these videos
“Open queue is a pile of hot garbage and I don’t know why I keep playing it”
Okay but literally a mood.
The gameplay was fine but me being half asleep and you flicking your mouse to check flank every second gave me whiplash lmao
hiiii, i was just wondering, how many hours do you have on mercy (how long till i get good)?
I saw myself in one of my Mercy QP in this, mainly the first point GA to heal
I also saw myself healing the Widow fron the dragonblade and staling at the defense last point XD
May be it is not working on high SR but i am using widow shot cd to jump. Widow has 0,9 sec cd after a shot and mercy moves 17m per second so jumping around 15m is fine if you start a jump directly when seeng red line. I cant execute it to perfection but it is still enough on many maps
are u a maths student or something
I've been trying to play a bit more Overwatch on Switch so that it wasn't a complete waste of money but I can't aim for shit on consoles so I've been playing a lot of Winston and also really trying to improve my Mercy - these are super great videos, thank you
These vids help me so much thank you!!💕
Watching you and moth make me want to play mercy
I always struggle to trust my other support. I frequently die because I don't trust my second support. I do fly to aid teammates because I just don't trust my second to do so.
Video Paused to write this:
I am no mercy main nor I play this game anymore.
yet I felt like watching a movie and enjoying the narrator.
Ssshhhh everyone give me popcorn.
Carry on.
You stop scrolling down the comments and go up now!
I loved the video about how you’re so observant about everything! Out of many of the other mercy you tubers (Animetic for example), are you friends with any of them personally?
Bodyguard Mercy!! I love it!!
I watch these vods as a genjimain so i can dive mercys more easily
She has a very unique voice. Its really cool
I missed you Niandra :)
Even tho i havent watched the whole video, i know itll be fun!
Niandra: This was a really bad for me.
Me, seeing the game being better than any Mercy game I’ve ever played: BRUH
This was recommended to me and I love it😳
Great video
im curious, does horizontal/vertical(?) sensitivity do anything? or does it not matter-? also i love your videos and it has helped me alot! im in gold and im trying to get to gm/top 500
And just in case anyone wants a possible sensitivity / settings for Mercy on console, here’s mine
Horizontal and Vertical Sensitivity both at 80
100 Aim Assist Strength
70 Aim Assist Window Size
0 Aim Assist Ease In
0 Aim Smoothing
0 Aim Ease In
Dual-Zone
Toggle Beam Connection: Off
Guardian Angel Target Priority: Prefer Beam Target
Guardian Angel Sensitivity: 100
Toggle Guardian Angel: Off
Beam Sensitivity: 81
I'm super anxious about solo queuing comp but have been wanting to try it.... I was planning on starting with open queue since it seems a little more laid back, but I also remember the pre-rolelock days and the idea is less than appealing 🙃 Thank you for the video!! I definitely needed it. I'm hoping to finally climb through diamond soon!
Open queue is definitely hit or miss but I geninuely feel less bad about myself if a match goes wrong which can help!
@@Niandra That's what I was thinking too! It kind of carries less weight so it might be an easier place for me to start :')
Any tips on super jumps I don't really know how to do them since the only times I do them they're not purposely
I'm trying to think of Mercy less like Moira, and more like Lucio. I'm not sure how to explain why that makes sense to me.
oh my god that just showed me how AGGRESSIVE of a mercy I am.😂
I heard somewhere that putting your head to the ground doesn't actually change where mercy's head hitbox is because the animation roots you to the spot. So which is true? I haven't seen third person evidence of what it would look like.
I'll try and test it when I have a moment - what I do know is that outside of rez, looking to the floor can hide the head hitbox behind the wings and that also when Mercy rezzes, she raises her hand which can then be in front of the head if at a certain angle. Shit I might have been confusing "looking at floor during rez" with that
It unfortunately doesn’t change the hit box. If you look down while rezzing mercy’s animation still tilts her head up.
22 SECONDS!

+1 sub Niandra! Congrats, also no hate, I'm really, really, really loving your channel!
Love the video very helpful
