Just heard them at the reunion concert on Sunday. Of the many times I've heard them, this was at another level. Perfectly executed and profoundly beautiful, and deeply moving.
So blessed and honored to hear these melodic renditions of our cultural history and to be an alumni of the University that is the Guardian of this music.!!!!!!!!
I have always loved the old spirituals. They reach deep inside you and touch your soul, but I have had trouble finding them where they have not been reworked and updated, which can be nice I fell it removes the heart from the music. The fisk singers are exactly what I have been looking for. absolutely gorgeous.
Jacqueline Foster Moody, The true feeling and spiritual depth of how Black People would have sanged this spiritual. Superb performance. Keep the Jubilee Singer spirit alive. Former Jubilee Singer
Not just rock. Gospel (of course), blues, jazz, funk, and eventually hip-hop, and more, all derive ultimately from the Spiritual. Even some musical styles that have been considered “white” came from the Spiritual including bluegrass and, yes, _Barbershop_ (which was invented by black men in black barber shops in the 19ᵗʰ century [look up the 1893 gramophone cylinder {predating even 78RPM shellac disks!} recording here on UA-cam of the Unique Quartette singing “Mama’s Black Baby Boy" which is _the_ oldest surviving recording of _any_ Black musical group of _any_ kind doing _any_ type of music, and yes, they were a Barbershop quartet [“quartette” back then] and that song is in a prototypical Barbershop style,) The *Barbershop Harmony Society* is finally owning up to this history which is why they invited the *Fisk Jubilee Singers* to their convention. They did several songs for this mostly _white_ audience including this performance, and joined with past champion and current rising star Barbershoppers in 1 of the most rousing performances of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” I’ve ever heard (this is also here on UA-cam).
This so touching . I can picture Harriet Tubman wading through the water with my enslaved ancestors to the north to avoid the dogs that are always on there trail. Slavery was such a tragedy that affects us even today.
BEAUTIFUL! Praise TMH :-) Does anyone know where I can find the song: 'DO UNTO OTHERS' by Fisk Jubilee Singers ? It was featured in the movie, 'The Harder They Fall' (2021)
A deeply moving performance. The soprano soloist's delicate ornamentation is the perfect counterpoint to the richness of the choir.
Hallelujah!
Beautifully describes how I experience this performance using words I lack.
Thank you.
This soloist woman is gold !!!
Fisk Jubilee Singers. Over 150 years of magnificent voices rising to the heavens!
150 years and still rising!
If this does not move you, you are not of this Earth !They sound just as wonderful as they did during my years at Fisk !!
Amen because I'm literally snotty. 🤎👏🏾

Fisk University is such an overlooked part of Nashville’s rich history. So proud to be a Nashville Native.

This spoke to me on a spiritual level. Like no cap. I got goosebumps the moment the soprano started her solo.

God is good all the time
Absolutely beautiful. This made me cry.
If you thumbs down this YOU DON'T KNOW MUSIC! JUBILEE FOREVER!!!!!
Here cause of my college music class. Love to see how slave music changed the world and slowly birthed rock.

Stunning! For those wondering, I believe this is an arrangement by Paul T. Kwami.
