  • Welcome to MN Tudor, a new series with me, Scott Heileson of ‪@WATCHISTRY‬ in collaboration with ‪@fogcityvintage‬ . In this series, we review nine MN Tudor's in my collection, each with their own unique story and provenance.
This episode, we learn about my first Marine Nationale timepiece, a 1977 Tudor Submariner reference 94010. Upon learning of these MN Submariners I was obsessed with finding an example issued in 1977, my birth year. Learn what makes my first piece one of my favorites.
Thank you to ‪@fogcityvintage‬ for their collaboration in producing this series. Be sure to subscribe to their UA-cam channel for more exciting content, and give them a follow on Instagram / fogcityvintage

I love the story behind the watchmaker's markings inside the caseback. We talked several months ago. I just added another Tudor to the collection: Pelagos 39. This channel encouraged me to remove the bracelet and place the case on a dark gray NATO strap. And while it will never be a vintage Tudor snowflake submariner with M.N engravings on the caseback, it suffices. With its snowflake dial and snowflake handset, coupled with a 39mm case, the Pelagos 39 will probably be the closet we'll get to a new Tudor snowflake submariner.
As time goes on, I am falling more in love with Tudor. The education you provided concerning the history of Tudor and Tudor's relationship with militaries around the world further deepens that love affair I have with Tudor. From my perspective, the education this channel has provided regarding Tudor submariners is valuable to the wristwatch community and horology. Thank you. Until next time, take care.

Been looking forward to a series from you regarding your gumption in finding and explaining these very special tool watches. Hopefully one day I can find a MN80 (9401 or 94010) to pass down.
Recently heard a story about a seal who had orders to destroy their de-com tutors 😢.
Your MN77 is absolutely gorgeous btw!!

Great video series, you knowledge on MN Tudor watches is outstanding. Do you have anything on the MN Rolex Submariner watches as well?

Thank you! I have heard of them but don't know enough about them to say whether they were issued or gifts for officers.there are varying opinions on this. Either way very cool!

You are lucky your M.N.77 was issued in Toulon, so you have access to the registers attesting its provenance and history. My M.N.80 was issued in Brest, where no such registers were kept. I do not have the decommissioning papers, but fortunately its serial number is in the range of a well known batch issued to the Marine Nationale in 1979-1980, so I'm pretty confident it's the real deal. Also, I bought it from a small watchmaker in Brest in 2005, when hardly anyone had any interest in those watches.

I have MN pieces from Brest as well and hope to cover them in future episodes. I also hope someday records for other bases will be available, they must be out there in one form or another!

It seems your heart and interests are in the vintage MN pieces. Curious if the modern Tudor Pelagos FXD has any interest for you being it's the modern lineage to those vintage MNs? If so, perhaps an update or supplement book to your Marine Nationale book in the future?

I own several modern Rolexes. My only vintage watch is the 16600. Yet had a crush 😻 and acquired an MN21. Despite of that, I couldn’t resist to save up for a birth year MN77. Do you think 🤔 I would find one at an acceptable in full set ? What’s your advise ? May be another MN from another brand ?!

    • @WATCHISTRY

I'd encourage a hunt for an MN from another brand!
