eFX Luke Skywalker "Reveal" Lightsaber - Star Wars Return of the Jedi

- eFX steps up its game with this new "Luke Skywalker" lightsaber. Instead of the usual static props that we saw with Master Replicas, this latest version now incorporates added features based around a once 'mythical' scene in Return of the Jedi.
Now, thanks to the recent Blu-ray release this segment can now be seen in the special features. We see Luke making modifications to his lightsaber, this scene gives insight into the inner workings of Luke's saber, complete with illuminated green crystal.
The guys at eFX have done a commendable job at recreating these features in their latest release.

Awesome...Master Replicas made some very nice items, but this is as good if not better, Efx have done a great job
For the record, the scene only shows Luke working inside the control box with a thin, wrench-like tool. The two triangle lights on the side of the box light up, going from red to green as he is working (there is also a rapid beeping sound), and then he closes the box and ignites the saber. You never see him opening up any other part of the saber (definitely no crystal).
This replica is based on what looks to be a fake (though very cool looking) prop saber that has been floating around awhile.

It's amazing how much these have increased in value. I don't believe eFX made the full run of 1.000. In fact, I think they made quite a bit less than that which makes these even more rare and collectible.

I made one exactly like this from still photos years ago on a lathe at my job. It took a bit of doing but I completed the machining in one day and then sent it off for plating. When I got it back from the platers I hand painted the black portions and assembled the brass portions and the emitter nozzle. Added the clip at the bottom and it's flawless! I wish I had taken the time to make mine capable of disassembly with the associated details inside like yours but I did not. Mine weighs a good 5lbs and I agree weight is totally necessary to making it feel like a real lightsaber.
I also turned down a few pieces of green impact resistant acrylic to serve as the blade. Unfortunately I didn't include a light but I occasionally entertain the idea of hollowing out the butt end to make room for a nine volt battery and adding a high output LED to the emitter nozzle. Altho it would surely ruin the finish from tooling and chuck marks I can always have it replated and repaint it myself. In retrospect I'm glad I didn't do it at the time as LEDs weren't as widely available in 1997 when I originally built mine and I no doubt would have used a standard automotive type incandescent bulb which wouldn't have suited the final project nearly as well. Perhaps the next time I take my vacation I'll use a day or so to finish it!

Both are equally as good as each other, in fact most of the staff that worked at MR are now at eFX. The version I have has the added features over the MR model but both would be a sound purchase.

Thats really cool Kev..until i watched this review i thought it was just a static piece, i didnt realize that you could open it up and look at the extra detail. Its a top quality replica with very nice finish. I might pick one up myself at some point.
Ps. Ebay gave me a full refund on the MR Alien Tracker. The seller did not respond to any messages! So it looks like ill have to wait another 5 years to find another one!
I think the scene was actually Luke completing his Lightsaber build, according to the now legends eu he took a month to complete his Lightsaber and finished it when he arrived back to tattooine from something that happened inbetween ep. 4&5. Because of how long he took he was able to make a perfect Lightsaber, with everything exactly as designed. That is if my memory serves correctly

Yeah it would be nice to compare eFX with MR, although most the guys at eFX are from MR so quality wise they should be equal.
And you get yours before criticize. The fictional lightsaber from Return of the Jedi is not a "new lightsaber", it was made from existing pieces from Obi Wan Kenobi house. Luke Skywalker just MADE MODIFICATIONS and put it together...

OMG I just realised when Darth Vadar fights Luke at the end of Empire Strikes Back Luke has Darths original light sabre... from before he turned to the dark side. Right?

Sweet. I suppose a nit pick would be that in the SW universe they would have symbols for language characters even for english or "basic" instead of the words red or green.

Super video. Very detailed and concise! I was looking at acquiring this saber, but also looking at a getting a Master Replica in stead. For market and overall collection value what would you suggest? I have a sense that MR's are a bit more sought after and have a distinct and unique quality where as the eFX are quality, yet lacking the extra "touch" and feel that MR provided.
The only thing I don't like about this is the crystal placement. I think it would look so much better if it was in front of the control box, where the rifle grenade slides up with all those rods, just like the saberforge crystal reveals and many other custom sabers.
I'm really not sure, my only pre-order at the moment is the Dutch PF, nothing big in the pipeline at the moment.

$499 is a reasonable price for this piece, that's about how much I paid a few years ago.

i have the blu-ray and the scene where luke does stuff to his lightsaber is a deleted scene. it wasnt reinstated into the film. but it dosent matter because george lucas kept making crap changes to it
