This is great - so many mistakes it reminds me of the Noel Edmonds Gotcha episode.
Just glad Yorkshire TV persevered with the programme, despite the teething problems.
Only the Whitley would do a toss up by flipping the coin then asking what hand is it in. Legend.
Christine looks like the life and soul of any party!
"Let's have a toss off", "he'll knock out one of those ladies". Who knew Countdown was so filthy? And I love the way that woman refuses to smile!
Hahaha!! This part is hilarious!
I love how the old dear wins an almighty long and drawn out game, then immediately has to battle against another opponent! Not even a quick tea break! Lol.
Whoah thanks for uploading! For being a pilot its not too bad and they kept the main music as well and shortened to 30 seconds per rounds. I am so glad they choe a different assistant :-)
Its amazing the show was allowed to continue
What a delightful elbow to film.
"he's going to knock out one of those lovely ladies"...#callingthepolice :-)
and with his HELMET an' all
The First countdown letters Lady was named Cathy Hytner as I recall.?
The contestant on the screen right reminds me of Charlotte Rampling.
Yorkshire Television, take 1.
Cut, the logo is moving! Cut, it was replaced!
Lemmy Johnson, you’re barred!
I like this version of the theme music
Me too
1..2..3 takes for the pre-selected word round!!!
I'd imagine it still makes the original Bullseye pilot (or, perhaps, the original ATV series) look the height of intellectual programming though...
Nice arm, Ted.
Catherine is dressed for the beach - very nice
@adamfro They weren't allowed to buzz in. It says at the end of Part 2.
OMG that was dire
1982 comeback same show just different name and a very young Carol Vorderman who we all know and love
I find it completely amazing that they didn't get "Calendar"... or did they? I suppose neither contestant actually says their answer in either take, and I'm going to assume that they had to change the word in take 3 because of either something off-camera or maybe an executive decision... (if someone noticed why they actually did it please correct me)
In retrospect they probably had it they just weren't able to say it
45 seconds to get a word or not? 🤯
Since when was R a vowel?
I'll have a consonant, please?
O!
COLIN is a word - the Virginian quail!
Other proper names that are acceptable Scrabble words include BERYL, a kind of precious stone, and BETTY - not sure what that is, but I think it’s a kind of dessert - caramel apple betty!

Fit the best Everest!
How enough did Ted Moult ever become a TV 'personality'?
Ted Moult was a farmer who was one of those quiz show contestants who ended up becoming famous - a bit like Fred Housgo and Daphne Fowler
Ted Moult was on many quizzes over the years, Celebrity Squares being one. He had a small part on The Archers on BBC Radio 4 and used to advertise Everest double glazing. He remained a farmer but in 1986 his strawberry crop failed and he took his own life.

Fired at 7:10.....So it's true about blonds :) Her husband doesn't mind though as long as he gets past the pink chastity belt!
quite bizarre wiki.apterous.org/Calendar_Countdown
Painful eh
"Watch out for contestant Joyce Cansfield"... Well, sorry mrs Cansfield, but all my focus here lies on Christine Jones from Otley, a very pretty and obviously intelligent young woman. The fact that she doesn't keep smiling throughout the show, as they seem to do nowadays, somehow just makes her even more attractive to me. Oh, those crushes!
jesus,that was AWFUL...car crash tv...fuckin hilarious
This has to be the worst Pilot ever. How on Earth was it comissioned.
