On this piece of One Piece: Helmeppo uses a sex toy from Toys R Us to threaten a kid, and then tries his mixtape. While 4kids learns to use a dictionary, tekking tries to find and destroy Brock's eye sockets. Afterwards, Ripper becomes the final boss of One Piece and secretly takes over as fleet admiral.

Coby - with Alvida's crew for 2 years and doesn't age very much if at all. Then leavs the crew and proceeds to become a marine then looks like he aged like 5 years in well under a year.

the only part i like about the 4kids dub, is the voice they used for gold rodger in the intro
Glad I'm not the only one. 4Kids is guilty of plenty of things that can't be forgiven even if 100 years go by. But a few of their voice actors were genuinely solid.
i liked that, and zolo and nami was pretty good, i also liked some of the accents and arlong(minus him not cussing nad stuff) sounded more threatening due to the effect they gave his voice

Honestly what turned me off from watching One Piece was when I read some of it in Shonen Jump. In addition to changing Zoro's name to "Zolo" for copyright issues, I read up on the changes made and was like..."LOL nope."
In all seriousness though, thank you for doing this series. It's nice to see it thoroughly analyzed since I've heard better from all the VAs in this (which I honestly think was due to lack of good voice direction since I theorize a lot of voice directors steered clear of this one due to KNOWING it was not meant for American children.) If you're turned off of Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon, try Slayers. It's fully uncut, funny, and has great voice work.

One thing I do like about the beginning of the anime is that it shows a civilian ship. We don't see many of those. With the one Piece world consisting of so many islands with specific weather and resources shipping would be a tremendous driver of the economy.

All these years I've thought 4Kids forgot to remove the gun in that shot of Luffy walking up to him. But it looks like that's a remnant from a second idea they thought of to censor it and forgot to replace. Crazy!

I should get into this series. I remember seeing it back in the day when I used to watch Kirby and Sonic X. (shut up I was 7) but I hear really good things about it. it's just... the show has 700 plus episodes.
My advice. Read the manga instead. The Anime has been a pretty bad adaptation for a while.
Alvida's crew has one of the highest turn over rates due to alcohol poisoning in the East Blue. Crew men generally figure that at best they'll make themselves incapable and at worst they'll black out and not remember what happens. Only the truly depraved like the guy with the goatee, pot belly, and viking helmet guy last long enough to learn what the (much more fortunate) Buggy knows now: that Alivda has always been a duchess of the bedroom.

It's strange to think about Luffy living with Ace and Sabo inside of Dan Dan's house, Sabo running away from the nobles, and Sabo's supposed "death" by the divine dragons happened shortly before these episodes.
Bad dub or not it's still the reason I'm a fan of the One Piece series anyway. And except for the edits, it's not nearly as terrible as it's made out to be

Luffy was much more blunt and kind of a bully sometimes, especially in the early days. Also... in the 4K dub... Luffy sounds a lot more feminine than he really should. I know his VA's are women, but this particular one is very soft and kind of girlish. Also... *epic cringe inbound.*

Well, Shanks did say it's alright for Luffy to cry during Ace's funeral. Shanks said that Roger was stubborn and just like Ace.
I like that in the anime we actually get to see a civilian ship in detail. For a land so covered by water we don't see many civilean ships. Most are either pirates or marine.
To me it sounds weird having Luffy with such an immature voice. I know he´s an immature character but he actually is an adult.
His voice here is very light, kind of quiet/soft and sounds a bit to feminine. Here, Luffy sounds 14, whereas in the Funimation Dub and the original Japanese, Luffy sounds 17/19. Like he should.
I literally just realized the narrator at the dub's beginning is the same VA for Brock in the 4Kids Pokemon dub.
