I will say this; the English VA who portrayed Gold Roger was perfect. Yeah, brief lines of dialogue, but really if dubbed that was always the voice I'd associate Roger with. That aside, everything else is bad. Look, I love puns. I think they are wonderful. I'm able to tolerate the digimon dub even though they over do it. This is just horrible. The arc is completely slaughtered. I can see why 4Kids dub is hated and rightfully so. Why turn a pirate themed anime with blood, violence into a light-hearted kids show? That's like me wanting to take Silence of the Lambs and make it an after-school special for kindergartners. It doesn't make sense!
I think the Yu-Gi-Oh one was their best. While it does have some jokes at inopportune moments for the most part everything is intact. While the death is removed the stakes are still there. The Shadow realm is build up as a really frightening and cold place where you will wander for all eternity until you lose every bit of sanity through loneliness and boredom and become a mindless husk. One weird thing though that nobody talks about is that when they couldn't censor death they just didn't. In arguably one of the most dramatic duels in the Yugi vs Joey duel at the peer the stakes are more or less unchanged. Tea is threatened with being crushed to death if anyone tries to interfere and the loser of the duel will be dragged down to the sea and will drown. Some of the characters I actually like better. Especially Bakura who is one of my favorites. He's an all powerful being so interacting with humans is just a joke to him. So he might as well have some fun doing it.
I would love it if, in his spare time, Mihawk was just a dad. Like, you know how a dad acts when he's trying to get along with his son that he doesn't understand? Like that. XD

I did some research and found out that only 58 episodes of the 4kids dub aired on their network. The show was on cartoon network, airing 2 episodes at a time for a while but then CN was the show's new home and censorship wasn't as strict if I'm not mistaken. Of course there was still a need to tone down violence and censor drinking and smoking and maybe even sexual content but they didn't combine episodes anymore(although it skipped post alabasta filler episodes and only did 6 of those). In fact when funimation aired their dub it had less censorship due to fewer cable programming restrictions. So I think it's possible that they really only need to tone down the violence, censor the weapons and blood, and maybe skip a couple of episodes if needed. As for ace and whitebeard's deaths they probably could get away with it. They've done it before with shoo-shoo's owner and bellemere(her tombstone can be seen in episode 32).
I agree with Tekking about not blaming the VAs, it's the same as blaming the actors in a bad movie. They are not the ones making it, they are just playing their roles.
I'd recommend the Ultimate Muscle 4kids dub. It's kinda bad but it really fits how dumb and lovable the original Japanese version is. Some voices fit, and others are terrible.

So a fish from the West Blue could swim up Reverse Mountian, like Laboon, come out the entrance to the Grand Line and then cross the calm belts into either the East or South blue. So yes it is rare for fish from all seas to get into the North or West Blue, but near Reverse Mountain is makes sense for fish that come up that mountain to end up in the South or East Blue and thus near Logue Town.
