This looks a lot like a Joy it t7 component tester in a different housing. I have one and like it. Great for sorting inductors, checking capacitors and diodes.
Its based on opensource code that originally was for the atmel 328p. you can get many of these for 10-20 beer tokens from anywhere in diy kit upto 'product' like this one. I have an older original with simpler display think it cost me $8 but doesn't have the IR decoding.
After your video I updated my current 6 & 10 year old models (Atmel 328 based) with the FNIRSI which I received today. Not bad as I ordered it the day your video came out. I like the better display and the fact that this model measures Zeners and does IR decoding. My unit had no problem with IR decoding my Samsung smart TV remote giving both the address and command codes. Next step is to compare the extent that the ranges will reliably cover compared to my other test gear so that I know its limits. A great addition to the toolbox.
I've had a similar tester for a bunch of years, and as an amateur repairer it's still thrilling to find the "unknown/damaged" part. Too bad about the remote detection function, I recently learned that there's a sequence you can enter into universal remotes that will make the remote automatically find the needed code. I used the method to turn on and control an "Onn" brand TV that lost the original remote.
I have 2 of those ..One of them is a TC-1 I got for 35 bux at circuit specialists and the newer one is a LCR TC-2 from Ali Xpress for 8 bux on a Lightning deal.... The TC-2 does esr only on certain voltage and capacitances .... IDK why but it states that in the manual... I like both of mine they are handy for BCE pinouts...... The IR works on mine , but I aim it from about 1 to 2 feet away .......
I have a thing called a TC-1 which appears to have similar firmware. When it receives IR, it shows a red spot top right, and when it gets a successful decode, it turns blue.
That's just for low voltage caps , 450 volt caps will blow the screen off of the tester ..... Not really but don't discharge caps with the tester , use a dedicated discharger...
I like it. A far cry from the Sencore Super Cricket we used to use along with a home brew curve tracer. And capacitor tests, etc. to boot!!! I wonder how this would do on a string of LEDs from a backlight for a TV.
Ir testing would have a light on the display that will flash when you push the button on the remote, I have a similar one I got for 20$ on Amazon. Shango 66 uses a device like this for checking components. The test wires are kind of cheap and used other wire for the connectors
Dont you point these at actual equipment and not remotes? Those dead transistors dont throw them away you can take them apart and use the cases as heatsinks for other standard transistors/v regs
The remote sends the signal not the equipment. The old transistors are in the can. I won't need them for heat sinks. I don't build or modify anything three days.
@@12voltvids Oh, my sony str-db940 uses 2 way IR signalling, sends all the settings from the amp to the remote etc. cool little tester though this might grab one, just think, years ago to do everything this little tester does youd need enough equipment to fill a room lol now we even have 100mhz dual channel handheld scopes too
That's what we want. Kitty cat news. Not a decade and a half late review of this. They are simply amazing though. I dreamt of having something like that 40 years ago... The guys who developed this - is in itself a fascinating story.
Is there any way I can pay you to repair something? It’s an AV receiver with an issue in the composite input section, composite inputs stop working after a good 15 minutes so I think a failed capacitor or IC. There aren’t any shops in my area that will repair an AV receiver and I’m just a novice in electronic repair, so I thought I’d try and ask.
I can only test what I have on hand. I think many people think that I'm in the business of repairing electronics which I am not, I retired in 2003. these projects I do are more of a hobby a fun project I certainly don't make any money repairing electronics and I haven't since I left the business over 20 years ago. people think that when I overhaul something that I'm making hundreds of dollars doing it. a shop would charge that because they have overhead but in reality most of these repairs that I do I make $50 or less and that includes my time of having to source parts, because people just will not pay to have anything repaired these days they want it done for $50 or less and that's parts in or they're going to toss it so I only take these challenges on for the specific purpose of making a video on the repair. It's UA-cam where I make the money from, advertising and UA-cam premium viewers. All the scumbags that use ad blockers I make nothing on and give me reason not to not want to make videos. I know I keep bringing this up but I have to listen to people that talk about how they love using their ad blockers and that they don't like seeing advertising what they don't understand is its advertising that make channels like mine possible and without the advertising revenue many of us will just stop doing it. we don't do it just for fun we do it because it's supliments our income. The reason this channel exists is 2 fold, one to teach others what I have learned over the past 45+ years I have been involved in the electronics repair business, and I hope i inspire others to take on the challenge and 2 so i can make a few extra bucks for my retirement because the 20+ years I spent slaving away at the tv shop had 0 pension. Nothing. Been working for the phone company for the past 20 years but if you think someone can live on a 20 year pension from the phone company in today's economy I have a bridge to sell you. So the little bit i make from UA-cam and my video conversion business will really be needed just to live. Property taxes in my area are around 7000 per year, house insurance another 4000, and car insurance for 2 cars another 3000. Many have no idea what everything costs in my neck of the woods however it's the best place in the world to live so I'm not going anywhere.
@@12voltvidsThank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this platform. I don't use Ad blockers 😅. I'm an IT/electronics technician from Colombia. Working since 2004, first in IT support, later on Samsung stuff and now in welding machines and power generators. I'm 100% agree with you, there's no money in consumer electronics repair nowadays, even here in a country where the people have less purchasing power and are more keen to repair their things. Fortunately I landed in a more industrial sector with expensive machines, and people and companies that are willing to pay a little more for maintenance and repairs. Life is challenging everywhere Sir, I really don't know if I can buy a house someday. 😢

WOW... That replaces a whole upper shelf of test Gear..
Thanks Dave....
It certainly takes the guess work out of matching components.

I have seen a lot of these Chinese transistor testers, but this one looks very interesting!
I have a thing called a TC-1 which appears to have similar firmware. When it receives IR, it shows a red spot top right, and when it gets a successful decode, it turns blue.
The Infrared works but only those in the NEC database as noted in the manual -it needed some explanation in the manual
thanks, bought one for the fact that it discharges caps.

ok i'll lookup the limit of caps spec on this tester- thanks
Just use a screwdriver. Bang
@@12voltvids Bingo !!!!
As far i know from other reviews of that thing you need to press the test button in the ir decode mode then point the remote
Got one of these, different case but same insides and layout
I like it. A far cry from the Sencore Super Cricket we used to use along with a home brew curve tracer. And capacitor tests, etc. to boot!!! I wonder how this would do on a string of LEDs from a backlight for a TV.
It won't test a string of backlights as it's a low voltage tester. Only the zener diode test is high voltage. It tests up to 32 volt zener diode.
It only detects a particular Samsung IR protocol.
What a versatile tool

My first one get fried with a charged capacitor. I had more care with the second one. Regards
This one has protection from charged craps.

One day they're going to make a component tester so go that it will identify the hidden chips.

Don't work on av receivers, only 2 channel. The few I have looked at are either my own of favors for friends.

Don't have any. Same as i don't have any scr or triac around.

PS. Short all terminals, 1, 2, 3 to calibrate and reset tester. Should be done first thing.
You need to update the firmware to the latest version 1.06
I'll do it when I get a chance. It's not like I will be using it much if t all. Will probably go in a box and sit on a shelf.
I use my cell phone camera to test the IR diode in my remotes
IT WILL NOT DISCHARGE CAP.
