This is great information about putting the back cut in first on smaller trees, not just for trees with severe lean but simply to give room to drive wedges into the smaller tree diameter.
Great Dan. I’ve heard it’s a little tricky for the beginner. I guess if you over shoot with your face cut you could be in trouble if you nip the corner of the hinge. I’m a little nervous to practice this but it looks like a real handy one. Thanks!
Yes, I plan on doing a lot more videos with the head band. That way you guys can see what I see. I do plan on going over the advantages and disadvantages of the various saws and I also want to cover work wear , axes , wedges, the best falling setups etc.
Experience I do not have. If you did this in the normal order there is no way I would get in front of that tree to film the hinge. Back cut out, notch out, and wedge in. Let me just lean in front of this....

Thanks.
That makes so much sense..always was afraid to do the back cut first..mostly small trees here in the East!..thanks
Your most welcome, glad that helped.
WOW! I've need to drop your demo tree's twin brother!
Now on to #2!

Your welcome. You can always practice on a wood round...just to get the feel.
Educational and entertaining
Thanks, glad you liked the video
Would've been interesting to see if the top of tree was on the move with initial back cut/wedge.
The taller trees tend to settle back a little with the back cut...yes the tops tend to move around when wedging.
Do a video on your felling rig and setup..I like the watch on the chest idea.

Goodeal! Great channel!
👍
Love it....
Maybe keep a smaller wedge in your pouch?
Yes....good to keep a couple different sizes.

My thoughts. Check from side with wedge!😊
Had the same thought here. Dangerous.
