IMPORTANT! This demo uses special video modes. If possible, watch it on the real hardware and CRT monitor for a full experience.
However, to watch it properly in WinUAE:
1. In Windows, advanced display settings, select a refresh rate of 50Hz (if not available some demo parts will not be displayed correctly).
2. In the emulator, select a standard A500 OCS configuration with 1MB of RAM, 2 floppy drives enabled and Standard VSync in display settings, then insert the disk 1 adf file in df0 and the disk 2 adf in df1.
Minimum requirements:
OCS Chipset.
512Kb Chip + 512Kb Slow/Fast memory.
We did a little write-up about the narrative side of the demo:
www.joycogames.com/retro/br/narrativeSide.html
We hope you enjoy it!
Having a narrative is certainly an interesting approach for a demo but even though I am familiar with the Tibetan Book of the Dead I totally missed the reference while watching the demo twice.
In my opinion, there is generally too much to concentrate on to appreciate a good demo to be able to follow a narrative at the same time and there is always the risk to see people start appreciating the demo for the narrative and visuals even if the demo is overall nothing special technically. If we concentrate on the narrative, in the end people will be voting for demos which are in essence the best movies rather than than the most capable of exploiting the hardware.
That's not the case here as the effects are quite technically impressive but there's always the risk that commenters will appreciate the demo for its art and looks rather than for its prowesses.
IMO, demos should engage viewers by talking to their intelligence and ability to understand the underlying hardware and educate them about it rather than move them emotionally via their narrative or visuals. But as a coder I am likely to be in the minority. ;)
I’m absolutely speechless, never could I believe that this is possible to squeeze out of an Amiga 500 based on hardware from 1985. Epic! Looks and sounds absolutely stunning!!
On December 10, 2022 Amiga history was made with the release of this demo. Amiga 500 OCS WTF?????? It has been 27 years since your last release and I would wait another 27 for something of this quality, but I certainly don’t want to! Let’s gooooooo!!!! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
i speechless 😶, did the end is a reference to TBL startruck with a kick to the raven ? 😆
@@MrThairacer Yep! Shots fired!!!
How is this possible?! Love it 😍
Agreed - knocked the ball out the park with this one...
See you un Posadas Party 2023!! ;)
It's almost 2023 and the Amiga still blows me away after all this time.
Bravo, haven't seen anything this stylish and polished on the A500 since Eon. It looks deceptively simple but the FX and animation are incredibly high precision for the hardware it's running on. The dithering, scaling, blends etc. Music is really nice too.
Considering their Batman demos on all computer systems, I think they deserve to be named in conjunction with Future Crew. Extremely stylish, fantastic execution, impressive code.
Eon killer, no doubt.
When 1Mo ocs look like 1200 accelerated, magic.
Power of code is art.
This is very finely done no doubt but many OCS demos have displayed similar effects and smoothness.
The difference really is in the story telling and presentation.
Not groundbreaking in terms of performance but a very fine demo indeed.
Let me correct my earlier statement: after a second viewing, it's clear that many effects have top performance. I blame my initial impression on watching it on a low res iPad. Also, to be noted: even on a PC in 1080p, UA-cam still seems to have trouble resolving individual pixels, especially with the dot effects.
This is absolutely a demo of the year!! Stylish, timeless and beautiful!! A worthy successor of the Batman Vuelve!! Thank you so much for your effort and this astonishing production.
Wow Amazing just amazing! also the reference to TBL Starstruck demo at @7:20 is so cool! 😎
Nothing that hasn't been seen before on OCS, but damn those are fast routines. Congratulations, you managed to make a demo on a Crionics & The Silents "Hardwired" level. Nobody has been able to reach that level on OCS for a long time.
Just watched this on my Amiga 1200 connected to my amplifier and subwoofer. Omg, please don’t stop doing demos. This is just so great, can’t explain how much I love the music and composition of this demo ❤ I really want more from you!
Yep. OCS. Developed in 1984. Released in 1985. You can see why the Amiga wasn't a music midi machine(Atari st) or desktop publishing machine(Mac)... The Amiga was used in live TV(the box), TV shows(lots), film (titanic) and Calvin bloody Harris used one on his first album. Not bad for a 40 year old machine...
This rocks so hard! It's just unbelievable.
And those dithered fades... OMG
To collect Amiga Demos is one of my greatest passion.... This Demo is probably one of the best Demos since a few years. Its so perfect. Atmsophere music everythings. Since release i run this Demo very often. Thanx for sharing another masterpiece.
WOW! just WOW!!! An instant favourite. A true masterpiece
WOW! Amazing atmosphere and everything perfectly synchronised. Congratulations
Yeah!!!!
Wtf.... that's killer...best Amiga demo ever 🙌
Nope, the best Amiga demo, on OCS at least, is "Hardwired" by Crionics & The Silents, followed by "Desert Dream" by Kefrens, with "Made in Croatia" by Binary at #3 spot.
@@AnnatarTheMaia Hardwired is way too overrated but for sure nothing beats the nostalgia feeling watching the old gems.
@@premium-insane-padua-parad2105 it's not overrated; it's Amiga OCS at her finest. Fast code, phenomenal graphics, legendary music and exceptional storytelling and directing. It has everything, and does everything perfectly.
In terms of performance this beats Hardwired, the 3D is as smooth or smoother and more complex, there are way more pixels manipulated by frames, and the direction is more consistent and elaborate.
@@nekononiaow yes, the code is faster and the design is nice but it isn't as nice as Hardwired's, so Hardwired is still better. They picked a commercial comics' topic and shot themselves in the foot with it, whereas Hardwired has an original story and directing, and that's why it still wins. Hardwired is like Eye of the Beholder: it has heretofore unbeatable atmosphere. That's something fast code cannot compensate for.
Damn! Incredible demo!!! Congratulations guys!
MASTERPIECE!!!! WOWOWOWWOWOW!!!!! AMIGA RULEZ!!
A perfect demo ! Congratulations BG ! 😍
Amiga 500 F O R E V E R!
BATMAN F O R E V E R!
Childhood F O R E V E R!
Hostias, menuda sacada de chorra, brutal. Enhorabuena.
Felicitaciones.
You are my heroes, this is fucking insane! Best demo of this year, I'd say.
Awesome Amiga Demo. Amiga Rules always. 10/10 Points Good Work Boys.
Poor little bird, TBL won't be happy. Fight! Great release guys \o/
Impressive Demo, marvelous!!! Rating: 10/10👏
Sometimes it’s hard to believe that this is all coming from 1985 hardware when it looks like a 5th generation console game at many parts. This is incredible!!!
🙌 whoops Amiga kick ass ! long live the King 👑 outstanding 👏👏
Amiga forever! :)
This is utterly amazing!!!! Thank you!!!!!!!!
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK... 😱
Incredible. Awesome code!
You guys seriously don't have any boundaries... Thanks for this wonderful present!
This is one of the best AMIGA demos ever done! Absolutely love the ending part, gives me shivers with that soundtrack
An absolute Masterpiece !
I was shocked how well it looks being only OCS, wonderful demo not only comparing to old times but now in 2023! Amazing job guys! Hope we can expect more prods from RHINO and the team.
Utterly stunning! Outstanding demo.
Just imagine taking a modern day computer and creating demos squeezing every ounce of power out of it like has been done with demos for the 8, 16 and 32 bit home computers of the 80s and early 90s.
Holy molly this is insane
Amazing Soundtrack with GFX'n 3D synchro! Great demo
Absolutely amazing. This is a 7Mhz computer with 1MB RAM! It still amazes me today. Thankyou for making this demo.
A 7mhz 1mb computer developed in 1984 and released in 1985...
@@mattjames1978 yeah man! It was incredible leap from C64/128 to A1000/A500 OCS, I did C128 -> A500 upgrade and it felt like leaped over one generation completely.. on top of that Amigas were absolute pleasure to program for. Good times.
¡Felicidades equipo!
WoW ! Amiga rulez !
This is amazing.
Best demo since TBL’S EON.
I would even dare to say it's a TBL Eon killer.
I dare to say it is best since Arte or Desert Dream.
Amazing Demo!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Impresionante. Vaya sacada de chorra de Batman Group.
Ahora a por el Vespertino.
Runs like a champ on 1985 PAL Amiga 1000. Yes. You read that right. 1985. Rather ahead of its time was the old Miggy 🤣.
The sounds is so clean. Really impressive demo too.
🤯os pasáis, que barbaridad! Obra de arte
Cool production guys, congrats!!
Outstanding production!!!
Cannot wait to see this running on my V4 Standalone.
This runs on an Amiga 500+? :O Love the part with the triangles forming the Batman statue to that cool music. Awesome work throughout. :)
Woooooow buddy, this is my new favourite OCS demo. It's stunning. Great story telling and amazing effects. I have never seen anything like this on OCS. That part with a stretching Joker gfx and the semi transparent 3d city is just sooo fucking cool.
I love this machine so goddamn much. Fantastic work.
Certainly the most impressive A500 demo I have seen so far. Cannot wait to see this on a real CRT screen. :)
Vaya estilo y vaya musicote, muchas gracias!
BG no decepciona.
Grandes
Just on OCS A500? Unbelievable! Well done, I have never see something like that on our precious computer.
That........was Epic!!!!!
Just style everywhere, great effects and such imagination.
Fucking awesome
fantastic demo, I hope the guys from TBL watched the demo...
I'm in shock 😮 Mega super amazing Demo
Piece of art! Wonderful on a A500! ❤
masterpiece!:) respect&greetz:)
Simply stunning.
Great demo ! Great Work the Batman Group ! Wow !
Wow, this one makes history!
Outstanding!
Awesome work.
Holy mother of SHiat!!! That was impressive, very good indeed and I like the message. That was the third best demo in a few years, and I think most other know the other two I am talking about =)
Surpasses even Eon, I reckon.
I remember seeing stuff from BG on CPC and being mightily impressed too.
This demo is pure art. BG never deceives reaching the limits of the platform. Amstrad CPC, Amiga 500 OCS ...what will be next? A 60 fps smoothly animated demo on a ZX81? Gracias :)
Amstrad fans will be hoping this means they will be able to finish Vespertino next. Go Batman Group!
Superb, what a demo :-)
crazy shit guys
Brilliant demoscene ever
The narrative driven demo that brings a new highlight on the platform. Its clear to tell what is a vector animation (Through the first movement of Batman overseeing the city had me stumped for a sec) the effects work is pretty gnarly and a great marriage of oldskool techniques tuned to perfection. For 3D work there are more impressive attempts that do 3D texture mapping, but as a whole, this is a brilliant demo.
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!
WOW - fantastic work guys. Well done. 🙂
This demo is absolute fire!
Perfect.
Flabbergasted. That's what i'm now.
Fantastic !! Nice nod to The Black Lotus ;)
OCS ??? 😱😱😱 Great code / GFX and Music ! Thanks DJ Uno for this great bass: my subwoofer enjoy ! Impressive ! Yeah, I'm impressed !
just wow!
05:12 wow, idk, but the subpixel precise rotoscoping on OCS amiga is just so cool.. I won't explain myself, it's just my impression don't criticise thx
Maybe not THE most impressive demo in terms of pushing the hardware (it's damn close tho) but this thing is artistically the best thing, by far, I've ever seen on the amiga.
