I will never forget the moment when Nick opened his concert in Iceland with this song. He was alone and walked on stage, went straight to the piano and played this song. I was just not ready for this and could not hold back the tears. What a song, what a man. Love this song.

It wasn't played at my wedding, but it bloody should've been! The Ship Song is one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Up there with 'God Only Knows' and 'Don't Worry Baby' by the Beach Boys; 'Here, There and Everywhere' by the Beatles, among many others in their catalogue,; 'There She Goes' by the La's.... I could go on and on! And I will... "I Won't Share You" by the Smiths; "A Letter To Elise" by the Cure... ; )

I once knew a woman, years ago..
We went to see Nick Cave in Dublin in 91, and walking home from that show, the moonlight caught her pale blue eyes and behind her head the night was filled with stars,until she and the stars had become one,
i still see her many years later whenever i close my eyes.

How can one possibly pick a best Nick Cave song? Too much, too much. Tossup between him and Bowie for the greatest artist. Such a visceral experience, our Nick. I’ve got a 2002(?) dvd from a french performance which is simply stunning in it’s entirety. A rapturous experience.
