    Merry Christmas. Being organized is a plus for anyone, but especially for you guys and the 300 plus videos. Just a suggestion, why don't you create folders in the Playlist and start moving old videos over to the appropriate folder. Make one called House Build, Retirement do and don't, travel in PI etc, etc. This way, new folks and scan the Playlist folders to find what they need. This would be easier for you guys to defer to also. Just a suggestion

    I think that we all appreciate all of the research that you guys have done and experiences that you’ve shared over the years. Most of us have done a lot of Philippines research as well and part of that research is watching what vloggers like you guys do when “the rubber meets the road”. As we all know, research and development (trial and error) is much more difficult than watching and copying. 😅

      Well said, research, but just plan doing it is what needs to happen at some point.

    Mike, to establish a quick search tool to reference the info for your users, create a spreadsheet to list your episodes with a detailed description allowing you to find the info and pass what episodes they my want to view.. just an idea....

    A sincere Merry Christmas to each of you. Enjoy the holiday season and all your parties and best wishes in 2024. Here in Japan, certainly in the countryside, Christmas is really a ‘non-event’. I’ve spent the past 12 Christmases at home alone, since there is no expat community here at all and the Japanese don’t celebrate Christmas, nor have any desire to have relationships with foreigners. I do attend a Catholic Mass in English 2x/month and December is the same. Actually, Christmas here is just a regular working day as usual for salarymen and English teachers. Amping, David.

      @@buildingthephilippines Thank you for your kind reply. Yes, definitely! I have come to enjoy my quiet, relaxing time. The bonus is no family drama! 😆. Yes, the Yule log fire will be on my iPad! But seriously, social isolation in Japan is my prime motivator over the past 2 years to figure out my exit plan. I’ve been deciding between subarctic northern Canada 🇨🇦 and tropical Philippines 🇵🇭. Each have pros and cons. It’s been somewhat of a bitter/sweet process since I have established my own food forest here in Kochi, Japan and have a lovely, traditional Japanese home which I have renovated myself in recent years.

      @@buildingthephilippines So true! It seems as we get older, we can easily get stuck in our comfort zone all too well. I first sold all my belongings and left Canada on a 1-way ticket for Osaka, Japan in 2011. I never returned to Canada since. Definitely I’m long overdue for a change. There’s nothing left for me here other than my home.

    Can't you break the playlists into subjects, Like Solar Vids, Planning Vids, Concrete vids, Swimming pools... example Ideas, then dump the vids in as they fit? I know as a viewer, play lists like that make searching a whole lot easier. and for the record, I do enjoy the story you have told, even if I've only been here a couple weeks. Thank you

    I had commented and asked before, but I was just wondering how many square meters your property is? Your land area surrounding your house looks huge to me. You must feel such a great sense of accomplishment having your house, pool and yard all finished now.

      @@buildingthephilippines Hello Greg. Thanks! Sorry, I think I missed your earlier reply somehow. Out of interest, my land size in Kochi, Japan is exactly 1/2 yours in Dauin (500+ m2). By Japan standards, my property is about 3~4x bigger than a normal residential lot. So I feel in land-cramped Japan, my lot size here is fairly big. I will tell you with our subtropical climate, daily sun and above-average rain, keeping on top of pruning, trimming trees, chopping the bamboo, pulling weeds is an endless job that I am always working on. Plus growing many varieties of citrus + many other fruit trees and vegetables is my hobby.

    • @ShikokuFoodForest
      @ShikokuFoodForest 8 місяців тому +1

      @@buildingthephilippines I’ve been hearing of land in or near Dauin for as low as 600~800 pesos/m2 (in the case of Tim & Rose initially purchasing land-locked property). But, I realize this may be rare. I’ve also heard of many people paying 3000~3500 pesos/m2 which is more than I want to spend. If I am patient, I would think lower-priced land can be found. For now, I wish to start looking for raw land to rent or lease on a monthly or possibly annual basis. Do you know if expats can legally rent agricultural or residential land? My desire is to live on the land and grow food. I’m a food-forest designer and permaculturalist. In the mountains would be fine with me. (Doesn’t need to be on the beach). Any feedback or ideas on this idea would be appreciated.

    • @buildingthephilippines
      @buildingthephilippines  8 місяців тому +2

      My understanding is you would need to purchase and then get a lease agreement to cover you, unless you have a filipina wife. The title of the land needs to be in a Filipino citizens name.

    • @ShikokuFoodForest
      @ShikokuFoodForest 8 місяців тому +1

      @@buildingthephilippines Thanks. I’ll admit, I find this confusing. You’re saying I need to purchase the land + get a lease agreement, if I don’t have a Filipina wife, which I don’t? Does this mean I pay the full purchase price of the land up front + have a lease agreement? Or, am I agreeing to ‘buy’ the land, then making monthly lease payments? I’m also contemplating buying land and putting the title in a Filipina’s name who I know and trust living in Canada. No idea if this is possible. But only an idea at this point. I was initially wondering instead of renting a small house if it would be possible to rent land for farming and setting up and/or building my own bamboo Kubo hut.
