This is one of those animes that are more "show don't tell". They are so fun to watch together and it feels like your right there with them. You felt all of the pressure on all the characters and wanted them to make it more then anything else. I can say that this is my favorite anime of the winter season and is in my top 5 for sure. Great job with the video, really loved it my man.

I look like King-san but twice his size and built like a sumo wrestler. But man, King-san's personality really struck my cord and I was so happy to hear his inner dialogue.
Plus, King-san is the most "Regular Joe" of the crew and his struggle was shared by many other regular Joes and Janes out there. That's why this humble me can fully felt his pain.

I finished watching this show about 3 days ago and my feelings for it still hasnt died down!! This is the most well put together anime I've watched in a looong time. I probably could write a 10 page essay on why this anime is so darn good but I agree with how well the character development portion is executed in this show. At the end of it, you truly feel how much you're invested to the cast.
Believe it or not, Haiji was a character that I did not particularly like at first because of how he 'forced' everyone into running, even when others have other commitments (e.g King). But he totally grew on me as he gave everyone a goal, a place to come back to and created such strong bonds between the members. Like now I wish I know a Haiji in school cos he truly helped everyone grow as a person through that difficult goal he has set.
It's sad how underrated this anime is 😭😭 I hope more people watch this gem.

This is weird but after watching this, I felt more alive. Maybe because it's one of the most realistic anime to me. The characters are so damn inspirational. All of them really because they portray different personality and different problems. You could definitely relate to them in a way. I just hoped it has more episodes so that I could watch them more but at the same time it was so well put together that you agree with the 23 episodes. This is definitely on my Top 5. This anime's characters were some of my favorites ever.
I'm no athlete, but I am leaving behind a high school marching band that had risen from nothing. My school is poisoned by low grades and a low reputation. When our fairly new band teacher lifted our spirits and brought us to our first band festival (after 16 years of our school's absence in marching), we were hit with that reality that the team faced at their first track meet. Other bands threw food and spat on us.
This anime spoke volumes about how people with unique hardships can grow with a team and a will to keep going. Characters like Kakeru and King still felt lonely sometimes, and I related to that, but they were never alone.
I loved your analysis. Keep it up. Blame Evanit0 for my being here.

As a runner myself this was an anime that I relate to, not something you can often say. I agree with the majority of points you make in this video, the way the characters all help each other mentally, as you said with shindo not giving up for the sake of everyone else. There were a few instances in the anime that I couldn't understand though, shindo having that brief segment with his girlfriend, didn't really hold much relevance imo. And of course the unrealistic growths in their ability, someone literally impossible when considering how fast they managed to run in such a small amount of time. Obviously this was something they had to do but it just didn't sit right with me. Overall run with the wind was an anime I really enjoyed, the character development was well managed considering how long the anime was. Great video, it's great to know someone else appreciated this anime

One thing that makes me cry about this anime is the positive loop that Haiji and the rest of the team have. Because, without Haiji, none of them would have been able to do this, in fact, they would never even think to try, but the opposite is true as well. Haiji never would have been able to achieve his dream if this group of nine running noobs didn't decide to go along with his, let's be honest, pretty fucking crazy idea of getting all of them into the Hakone Ekiden. But they did. They went along with it and stuck by Haiji until the very last moment. And Haiji is so incredibly grateful for that. Just as they are grateful to Haiji for making them join the team in the first place. For giving them the opportunity to achieve and gain so many new things they never have thought possible.

King is absolutely the most relatable character in any anime ever for mem When he recalls how he chose chikusei-so only because it looked something out a drama, memories of my own stupid decisions flooded me, things I did because they looked cool in a show or a movie or to impress people. His description of his college life was just pin point accurate on what I felt. And just like King iv always felt out of place wherever i go or whomever im with. I truly believe king has one of the best developments out of the main cast. This anime was just beautiful, it was a soul enriching experience and thank you for covering it, even after 3 years i search for run with the wind videos on yt. I totally agree with everything: This show was truly remarkable, and I'll occasionally watch it again to be reminded of all the things you mentioned here, and then some. I am an amateur runner, and it means a lot to me on that level, but this show also means a lot for life in general, beyond what it means to run. Love your video man and I hope one day you'd do a commentary on the rest of the Kansei U crew. They are all so very endearing to me.
I have some take (not entirely my own) regarding to Kakeru and his past. Vloggers from Bilibili also mentioned this "War Time Flashback" technique to indicate Kuruhara's inner turmoil . To me, it is one of the hardest (not because its badly done) thing to watch in the series. The cut from "Black and white" to full colour at the punch is one of the most brilliant transitions I've seen in TV animation.
(This is my own take) As for the coach, that man is irredeemable in my humble opinion. That man treated Kuruhara as his "Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs" by giving him special treatments while punishing Kakeru's fellow students. This essentially severed Kakeru from his teammates and this had go on for about 2 years.
Plus the moment Kakeru punched the coach should be at the early part of his Highschool 3rd year (Grade 12). Can you imagine growing up in high school and feeling severed from his peers in such fashion? His peers will only look at Kakeru with envy or even downright resentment (Looking at you Sakaki).
On the other hand, I would assume Kakeru supposed to be the team captain in Grade 12. But how can he lead his peers by being treated in such fashion from the coach? Not to mention that Kakeru is an introvert and a team structure like Sendai High gonna collapse. The reverse example would be Haikyuu's Karasuno High. Just look at the way Sensei Takeda & Coach Ukai treated Daichi & Suga. (FYI, Daichi & Suga's VA did roles in RWTW)
Luckily, being in Kansei U brought Kakeru to Haiji. He learns from Haiji and it shows the moment when Kakeru slowed down for Prince in the track meet. Kakeru doesn't need to become Haiji (its mission impossible) but he will have friends to help him along the way. To Kakeru, this story is his (and his friend's) deliverance.
I think Kakeru's personality is lesser extreme than Kageyama, but coming from a toxic highschool life really messed him up. If Kakeru didn't punch the coach, someone eventually will. As for Sakaki. even though his anger toward to Kakeru is justified, his personality (How he act towards to other Chikuseisou residents) strikes me as a perfect fit to that terrible coach. He is the worst kinda "Teacher's pet".

    • @Kayla-eq1hb
      @Kayla-eq1hb 3 роки тому +3

Kakeru is my favourite character, along with Prince. I agree that throwing a punch at his coach was justifiable, and even if he gave Sakaki a knocking. Although physical harm is awful, we forget about physiological scarring and corruption all too often. These are not tolerable either, especially for someone who had to endure through alienation from the coach and Sakaki, and some others as well, for as long as Kakeru did.
Kakeru was only trying to instill some sense into these two brutes in a blunt, yet effective way, because it is highly unlikely they would stop their behaviour if Kakeru told them everything they did wrong. It was the only way Kakeru could act on behalf of himself and a team, either from high school or Kansei University, whenever a bully stuck around, always singling Kakeru out because they sensed weakness in his character. It was a situation that forced him, out of anyone, to become defensive. Also, not everyone can be a snide, yet charming smooth talker like Haiji is 😂. It was a relief to see when the Kansei crew began to stand up for themselves in Kakaru's place, during confrontations with Sakaki. It was one of the many beneficial changes in his life that they provided.
As well, despite mainstream belief, Kakeru is not a mean guy at all. His only truly mean moment is when he threatens to kick Prince off the team, and was short tempered and inconsiderate of his peers in ep. 8. It was a conflict with Haiji in training styles, and although he wanted everyone to succeed, constantly worrying about running without reward made everyone doubt Kakeru as a well-meaning guy - even Kakeru was suffering from the negativity, and didn't realize the flaws in his training style until later.
The parts of him that many viewers find off-putting are unique quirks, which tend to only cause problems for himself (like disliking rowdy parties and going on solo sprints, rather than running with the team at the beginning - how's that going to harm anyone?) Any harm Kakeru does cause, like when he bumped into Hana after a particularly intense running away moment, was purely unintended.
Also, the doubts he gave Haiji about running the Hakone were dismal, but they subtly demonstrated that he cares about other people's well-being, in particular the Kansei crew. He didn’t want them to suffer the harsh realities of track meets, or other problems that he experienced in the past, even though most of what Kakeru suffered through wouldn't actually be repeated in this running team, this coach, and in their dynamic. Had Kakeru not been concerned, he wouldn't have offered alternate suggestions at all, so it shows there’s goodness in his sensitive, shielded heart.
It can be a difficult concept to grasp unless someone has a bad backstory and the "runner" mentality (i.e wanting to run away often) like Kakeru, but I hope this can bring out a fresh perspective, and bust misconceptions, in anyone who reads this 😊

I pretty much agree with you on Kakeru and I am glad you share my thought on what shaped Kakeru the way he is in his 1st year. Which makes his deliverance so heartwarming to watch.
Kakeru is not good with his words but I am sure he'd do fine leading his crew in his 4th year. Afterall, he have the Twins and Hana-chan to help him out. And he is surrounded by people who adore and admire him. All the team need to do is to get this Olympian level athlete a Hakone Ekiden title on his belt!

I honestly not really interested in sports anime because of the fanservice scene and fujoshi's comment (I'm sorry if I'm being mean. I dont mind the fujoshi people since that's your interest and all but what I meant is, sometimes the fujoshi's comment ruin the sports mood and that's why I hate it.)The perfect example is Free I guess. I never watch the anime but sometimes its shows up in utube in good ol' time. Then one day in my last high sc year, I stumbled run with the wind anime. I got really curious with how the cast design are. They look normal, dont entirely need to have a handsome look, so I started to try watch the show. I watch when the anime still on air and man, how I got hooked up so bad!!
ITS PERFECT!! The relationship, brotherhood between the team members aren't really over. The interaction also simple YET ALL OF THOSE SCENE, EVERY MOMENT OF IT HAVE SO MUCH MEANING. Idk, it just feel so refreshing yanno. I remember I always on edge whenever I finish current Ep and need to wait for nother week. I remember tryin so hard to held my tears when they included in hakone run (which end up a fail ofc) every moment they spent time hanging together, running together and have a joy together just felt so real at that time. They put the kind of fanservice that I really like and that is the pure teamwork between all of them and their supporters. Oh! And the rivals in this anime too! I love that fujioka (is it the right name?) and haiji share this 'healthy' rival relationship. Like, they dont need to have the angsty drama between them. They just continue give each other support while not giving a chance lose at the same time. While for kakeru and his rival,( forgot his name) they did have some drama but not dragging too much. His rival act like everyone else like, put all the blame of the past to someone else, kakeru, but in the end he still know he also lack the skills so he tryin his best to improve himself without doing anymore drama.
I start trying to watch haikyu 2 months ago since my friend really love the anime and recommend it to me. But I decide to stop in the mid of second season. Ofc, it's not like I entirely give up on the anime but I decide to take a long break from anime stuff. Haikyu is not bad but honestly I dont feel the same love like the love I had toward run with the wind. Run with the wind just too special for me.
Ahh, there's nother one anime I try to watch aftr run with the wind. It's about archery and I believe it's from kyoanime, like free? That one- lol, only one ep and I'm out already.

I would say that it seem the drama and the characters are the driving factors of what you like about certain anime. Cause to me I see Run with the Wind as a drama show that has running. I would recommend Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu or maybe March comes in like a lion

@@RayTheOtaku why yes, drama does play as the main factor. It's just that this anime don't need to show a lot of drama to point out what they want to delivers which is unique and rare to me. And I did watch march comes in like a lion long ago which is really good but sadly I had to push it aside cuz I was busy when I first watch the anime. But thank you for mentioning the anime cuz now I can make a note to watch it again when I have the time!

Funny thing is the writer Miura Shion sensei is a well knowned Fujoshi and rumor has it the original draft of RWTW was going to be a full blown BL story.
I am glad the story ended up the way (I have no problem with BL but it may divert the story unnecessarily) it is and having Production IG doing the animation is the perfect combo... Which also got me to watch Haikyuu.
