It's absolutely the worst when you confidently file a report for an anomaly, but another anomaly is fixed, that you didn't see nor can think what it was, and the first anomaly is still standing there, menacingly.
Doing some scrubbing through, the change in the toilets was actually the bathroom tiles. They were bigger or missing, hard to tell. But they changed after
When you say "standing there, menacingly" for some reason I imagined the anomaly, whatever type it is, t-posing to assert it's dominance over that location
This game actually takes advantage of a perceptual phenomenon called "Change blindness", when even if there are huge changes or small changes, the observer does not notice a different due to not seeing the picture for a split second, for example if it were to turn to a black screen or another area for just a few moments, unless they're actively focusing something specific
I feel like there are so many horror games that could, and have been (but more could), be made exploiting our brains vulnerabilities. This is a great example of one.
the most gut wrenching feeling in this game is when you think you’ve noticed something different, so you report it, an anomaly is fixed, and it wasn’t what you reported…….
They should add a thing where at the end you get to see the anomalies that you missed. Highlighting the anomaly type, and showing what the room should look like
i think the unknowingness makes it a lot more mysterious so when you try it again you slowly notice the things that changed now that it went back to normal
@Pingu0 so? just because someone play it doesnt mean others cant enjoy it. by that logic, if someone ate an chocolate, nobody should eat it for like, forever
@@AKSU4TW in my opinion you die becouse of a heart attack or something similar since if I'm not wrong you're away from the anomaly location you're just tasked with signing them off. It might just be that you pass out though so it doesn't mean that you necessary *die*
Imagine if you trained yourself with this game often and not only be able to spot ghosts around you but also whenever something has been moved in a room of your houses.
I feel like this game would be so funny in multiplayer, like imagine bob wade and mark arguing over whether there was originally 2 bottles of soap or 3
I'd imagine Wade asking if it actually was there or not most of the time making Bob and Mark actually doubt what they were seeing making it even harder XD
@@kaileealtman9630 It's been confirmed that the more wrong reports filed, the faster anomalies appear. When you don't know about it, it becomes accidental hard mode.
Reminds me of when Arin and Dan from Game Grumps played this and when Arin turned up the brightness, Ally and Dan got mad at Arin and blamed him for why they lost due to the game being too dark, when there's no option to turn up the game's brightness from the main menu. So there's no way that Arin or anyone else who plays these games for the first time, would ever know that turning the *brightness* up is even an option at all, until they pause the game while playing lol 🤣
Right?? I mean I guess the earth revolving around the sun, thus making it bright outside is _technically_ movement of an object, but I just don't think that counts, Mark.
Out of all observation duty games, he probably started with the most difficult. Out of the ones I've seen other ytbers play, this is by far the most subtle. I think he'd enjoy 1 or 2 a lil more.
Oh my God I spent a long time looking for what changed. I cannot believe I didn't notice the entire floor changing. The moment you call it out though, you can't unsee it.
If he made several episodes of this game with all the different rooms i wouldn’t be mad cuz it’s so fun to try and figure out what’s wrong w the rooms along with mark
I love how immediately after mentioning that object disappearance was a thing, the deer skull on the wall was gone and he didn't notice. Edit: Just so everyone knows. I mean no disrespect to Mark. I just thought the timing was hilarious.
It's comforting to see that, over the years of Mark's "Let's Play" videos, that very little has changed. A new game appears, peaks Mark's interest, and he gives it a shot. He then proceeds to somehow push through undaunted, even though he either plays the game WILDLY incorrectly, has very little understanding of how the game is intended to be played until a little before of after halfway through the video, or overlooks key elements that will make the game play so much easier on him. He always manages a victory through sheer willpower, amazing hair, random noises and ramblings, luck, and/or fearful confusion alone. We love you, Mark.
Mark mistaking the sounds when the hour hits, for anomalies or other is so funny to me, he just freaks out while the game is trying to tell him the time lmao
28:52 I have played this game SO many times and I have not noticed ONCE that the floor tiles of the bathroom change! This game has so much packed into it
Real talk though, there should be an SCP version of this game based around SCP-895. 895 (AKA Camera Disruption) will fuck with any and all sensory equipment within proximity of it, creating hallucinations and other anomalous sights. However, viewing it without such equipment just shows it to be your average-looking coffin (Yes, it's that coffin found in SCP:Containment Breach). I think something could be done with that formula. Have one level be its containment chamber and/or the vicinity around it, and maybe another level be the location where it was first located.
This game is exactly like my old securty job: working overnight monitoring an entire building where the only occupant is myself. Only difference being I didn't have the luxury of monitoring cameras, no if heard a noise I had to physically go over there and investigate. I hated it. It was an old building that allegedly had a history.
@@icicletheweavile3056 Probably Distortion, or maybe just straight up Intruder? (Though no way to know that until you die to it lol-) Abyss refers to a different anomaly I think.
The amount of Marks thinking that you can physically observe is astounding. Like you can physically see the sanity leaving his body ever so slowly. His mind is literally making him see things.
I'm on Observation Duty in a nutshell: "Was that always like that?...." "Was that always there?...." "Did that move?...." "Did that always look like that?...."
The problem with finding anomalies is that each time you miss one, you reinforce the changed room as normal in your brain. Then if it gets caught when viewing another camera (like with the routine checks), the reset room will now not line up with the one you remember, and will appear anomalous, distracting you once again... from the man in your closet...

Some of the little things that happen in this game that are hard to notice are the fan will switch directions, one of the cameras will disappear and then sometimes furniture will slightly move a different direction or an object like a lamp or a plant will switch places with another one. So when I play this, I really study every room and pay extra attention to the way that the objects are facing or the paintings because those switch a lot also. The camera disappearances the super subtle ones so if you're not really paying attention you can definitely miss that one and they usually do it once or twice a game . Just some little tips for anybody who might play. There's also mobile version

this game makes me so uneasy. every time i'll scan the room, panicking from the fear I'll see something that's not supposed to be there. this is the type of game the messes with your mind, throwing you into hysterics even when nothing's happening. well done to the devs
made worse by the face that there are very subtle sounds that are just randomly generated and mostly not related to the anomalies to make you question if things happened or not. I think some of the sounds are human whispers too. drove me insane during stream.
My boyfriend and I play this game together and while playing we also have the “Don’t you dare gaslight me that picture is weird oh wait no you were right” game 😂😂😂
11:28 Incredible how the Game Grumps have put hours into the Country House without the painting in the bedroom ever changing on them but Mark sees it on his first go round.
I think the scary part was how incredibly quiet the game was. In most common horror games there is always a very sleight low octave undertone to the soundtrack. For this one it makes you feel like you are on your own, or at least there are no humans with you. edit: holy snickerdoodle thats a lot of likes ty
This is not a criticism of this game in particular since it's a short experience but generally silence makes horror worse if used exclusively, silent moments build tension because other moments are not silent so something must inherently "be off" in a silent area or moment, but if nothing is off and it's just silent that throws the player through a loop of not knowing what to expect since the silence didn't build up to anything.
Mark managed to miss most of the really jarring jumpscares purely by luck. Hopefully he'll play this again sometime, along with the others in the series. They're very good at forcing you to concentrate, really close-up to the screen, with nothing happening 90% of the time...and then BAM. They're also good to stream if you need audience participation...assuming you can trust your viewers, of course...
@@SainaraYT Some of the ones he missed (and by missed I mean they didn't show up, sometimes with this game some anomolies just don't happen) were the huge man in the office in the country house and there's an intruder that will be outside in the top right hand corner between the rocks also in the country house. Other ones are intruders at the windows. Other times intruders in the house are just super creepy, or good ol' Timothy who is a running character in this game and is actually related to the plot.

The most screwed up part that makes this game so spooky is when it detects an anomoly and you literally didn't see it and can't see it even when you go back to the previous frame. It's like gaslighting, the game edition in horror mode.
@Instagram User Hey guys! Just a reminder you can go to this guys channel about page, click on the little flag icon and report him for hate speech/harassment. This page in question has already had most of their videos removed because of reporting!
in my experience, distortion: change of perspective/stretching/getting larger ghost: just some translucent dude chilling there abyss presence: black spots that grow and spread light anomaly: lights flashing/flickering other: just some random shit, the floor for me just turned into cracked stone instead of tiles hope this helps!
Abyss is just a giant hole that's growing When you got instakilled it was a distortion, not a camera malfunction. Camera malfunction is usually just a camera missing.
Yes! Those always throw me off! I'm always too busy keeping track of all the objects to notice an ENTIRE room is missing from the camera feed. Lol I usually catch on after a bit tho.
Mark: just encountered a distortion of fire extinguisher minutes ago Also Mark when the whole room is distorting: hmm yes, this could mean others, camera malfunction, or abyss presence
anybody else notice the fact that the third place he investigated ... had a toilet cam. Thats creepier that any anomalies he finds. And there is also a cam in the locker room. Privacy, whats Privacy?
I always assume these in game logic is that these were normal homes with no cameras but the security company the player works for installs cameras into every room to watch for anomalies
Considering that the bathrooms had pictures of naked women do you honestly blame them? It's a police station the fact that porn is basically placed on the walls is worrying enough as it is. Plus if the bathroom stall door gets closed they won't see anything until the door is opened again, so in short it's still allowing privacy but since it's a police station they're making sure no one does any fucking on the premises ig.
You could literally close the bathroom stall or not pull your pants down all the way, then you can get privacy, the camera is just placed there to watch for any odd activity like anomalies
I was playing this game and streaming it on discord for my friends. Everything in this game didn’t bother me except when all the chairs in the conference room turned to face me. That, for some reason, was extremely unsettling.
Mark missing the skull’s disappearance for like 10 minutes despite it being one of the most distinct and obvious items in the room really gets me in a certain kind of way
They should have it so that every time you lose, it shows what the anomaly’s were Edit- I would like to add that out of this whole video, what scared me and made me jump was the confetti at 32:28
Yeah. There's a roblox game I used to be big on in my childhood called Stop it Slender! and if the survivors lost, it showed the locations of the remaining pages as well as a small amount of what it was on. I feel like this game could do the same, maybe show the anomaly and describe the class type, like when Mark missed the Deer skull vanishing it would've showed an image of it being gone along with "Anomaly Type: Object Disappearance. Location: Bedroom"
This was really cool. Finally, an original camera monitoring indie game that ISN'T derivative of FNAF in almost any way. I would pay to see Mark work hard and complete each room. Also an amazing game, doesn't rely on jumpscares or drawn out drama to put the player in an unsettling and tense environment.

This is actually a great concept. It increases your memory function, and gives satisfaction when you see the difference. I seriously love how challenging and scary it is, despite it just being a "hide-and-seek" game.
that would be awesome honestly , like iv played the first one and it makes me think about how if anomalies keep going , then if theres multiple intruders in a room or they spawn at the same time they should interact it would be funny
i love how he's not hesitant to just try to sent a bunch of reports cause there's no punishment for wrong guesses here and that's a nice strategy when you dont know what's going on and other people playing do not always do that

Damn, we all lack object permanence?

However, viewing it without such equipment just shows it to be your average-looking coffin (Yes, it's that coffin found in SCP:Containment Breach). I think something could be done with that formula. Some of the little things that happen in this game that are hard to notice are the fan will switch directions, one of the cameras will disappear and then sometimes furniture will slightly move a different direction or an object like a lamp or a plant will switch places with another one. I think the scary part was how incredibly quiet the game was. In most common horror games there is always a very sleight low octave undertone to the soundtrack. For this one it makes you feel like you are on your own, or at least there are no humans with you.
edit: holy snickerdoodle thats a lot of likes ty
i think that’s what has me the most freaked out
This is not a criticism of this game in particular since it's a short experience but generally silence makes horror worse if used exclusively, silent moments build tension because other moments are not silent so something must inherently "be off" in a silent area or moment, but if nothing is off and it's just silent that throws the player through a loop of not knowing what to expect since the silence didn't build up to anything.
@@CloneLoli yeah thats pretty true.
Mark managed to miss most of the really jarring jumpscares purely by luck. Hopefully he'll play this again sometime, along with the others in the series. They're very good at forcing you to concentrate, really close-up to the screen, with nothing happening 90% of the time...and then BAM.

distortion: change of perspective/stretching/getting larger
ghost: just some translucent dude chilling there
abyss presence: black spots that grow and spread
light anomaly: lights flashing/flickering
other: just some random shit, the floor for me just turned into cracked stone instead of tiles
hope this helps!
other is other?? no way
@@catjaypTruly wild.
Abyss is just a giant hole that's growing
When you got instakilled it was a distortion, not a camera malfunction.
Camera malfunction is usually just a camera missing.
Yes! Those always throw me off! I'm always too busy keeping track of all the objects to notice an ENTIRE room is missing from the camera feed. Lol
I usually catch on after a bit tho.
Yeah after seeing the weird shadow and then the room I was like "That's a distortion" but he clicked the camera thing 😂
I would have done camera too and died 😭
@@FailedNoName first time I saw it, I thought it was camera malfunction too lol
Mark: just encountered a distortion of fire extinguisher minutes ago
Also Mark when the whole room is distorting: hmm yes, this could mean others, camera malfunction, or abyss presence
Right haha, I was thinking the same thing
Though, it ended up actually being one of the intruders that can kill you
@Instagram User so by that you mean you have no friends and you were an aborted child
@@Unfunnt Just report them. Attention seeking children who were abandoned
@@dr4x3k28 it's a bot as well
Mark: Object movement could also be a thing.
The deer skull on the wall: Why yes Mark, yes it could, excellent suggestion.🤣🤣
Wouldn’t that one count as a disappearance? Or was it just moved to another part of the room?
I love how immediately after counting the books on the bed, they moved and he didn’t notice.
he even came back to the room, saw them on the floor, and said "yep 3 books on the bed"
what is the time stamp?
@@waverlithecatlady looking back at the beginning, the books are all in the same spot tho, one on the bed, and two on the floor
unrelated but nice pfp
mark: im only seeing the obvious ones
also mark: *doesn't notice the missing deer head in the bedroom the whole time*
Yeah I noticed it was missing and was internally yelling at him lmao
Wait- it was missing….
RIGHT I WAS LIKE “the deer head…. wasnt there a dear head….”
where tf u got deers head gone i dont see it lmao
@@Limpo_2 the second location he did had a mounted deer head above the bed and then later it just disappeared lol
anybody else notice the fact that the third place he investigated ... had a toilet cam.
I mean, it’s like a jail or something, so im not surprised.
and in the locker room. i think bathroom is okay as long as there is a sign saying “camera in use” and not in the stalls
I was playing this game and streaming it on discord for my friends. Everything in this game didn’t bother me except when all the chairs in the conference room turned to face me. That, for some reason, was extremely unsettling.
Mark missing the skull’s disappearance for like 10 minutes despite it being one of the most distinct and obvious items in the room really gets me in a certain kind of way
same, I was yelling in my head the whole time "Mark, the SKULL, the big GIANT SKULL disappeared!
i really want more of this its fun to be like "WAS THAT THERE?!?!" with mark
They should have it so that every time you lose, it shows what the anomaly’s were
Edit- I would like to add that out of this whole video, what scared me and made me jump was the confetti at 32:28
Location: Bedroom"
or at least how many like "22 out of 56 reported"
lmaoo i clicked on that and got scared by the confetti
But then it would spoil the game. If you know what exactly to look for, there isn’t a super ton that can change in each room.
The confetti scaring people seems to be a common thing since in 2 other videos someone ends up being spooked my the festivities
I love how this game doesn't have a tutorial or anything. It adds to the scary aspect of it
At 28:41 the “other” anomaly that was fixed was the floor tiles going from big back to smaller tiles.
Was looking for this comment thank you 😂 almost lost my ding dang mind
@@bmal7173 I know I had to screenshot before and after and even then it took me a little lol
OH, i went over that part and saw the floor changed, but what i thought was wrong was that it wasnt wet, which would be wrong according to the sign
@@bmal7173 Same
oh damn, such a simple obviously detail but so many missed it, 💀
This was really cool. Finally, an original camera monitoring indie game that ISN'T derivative of FNAF in almost any way. I would pay to see Mark work hard and complete each room.
Also an amazing game, doesn't rely on jumpscares or drawn out drama to put the player in an unsettling and tense environment.
Grandfather clock: (chimes when the hour changes)
Mark: it's calling me an idiot
This game can be summed up in two sentences.
"Dammit, the abyss is here again. And the ghost knocked over my coffee cup."
This is hilariously accurate
Of course Mark starts with the most difficult mode, he's even a masochist subconsciously
The first one is the most difficult?!
@Instagram User lol i think if i have all of you from all universe combine in this world your IQ is unsurprisingly lower than average people that never go to school and live in the wood
@@NetralFN just report him these kind of people are plaguing toutube.
he is clearly not a masochist though
no, he just appreciates power
This is honestly one of the most interesting and effective horror games in a LONG time. It's got the tension of FNAF without jumpscares.
At least, none that are as in-your-face as FNAF. Played with a bunch of friends, and just the ghosts/burglars were enough to keep us thoroughly spooked throughout.
This is actually a great concept. It increases your memory function, and gives satisfaction when you see the difference. I seriously love how challenging and scary it is, despite it just being a "hide-and-seek" game.
Ikr? I miss "I spy" games like these, they're perfect time wasters too when you're waiting to get somewhere or do something.

i love him saying "thank you" to the anomaly fixer every time
I wonder how this game would be with a "Can't lose" mode where you just go until the end of the night but it will never stop creating anomalies.
Hell literally
that would be awesome honestly , like iv played the first one and it makes me think about how if anomalies keep going , then if theres multiple intruders in a room or they spawn at the same time they should interact it would be funny
I was thinking the same thing
Imagine one room with every anomaly lol
@@stardustlight8630 ever took 4 Tylenol? Cuz thats what happens
i love how he's not hesitant to just try to sent a bunch of reports cause there's no punishment for wrong guesses here and that's a nice strategy when you dont know what's going on and other people playing do not always do that
I never would’ve thought a distorting fire extinguisher would be so terrifying.
I find it amazing, you can just put that fire extinguisher on your back then suddenly you are a firefighter, also it is slightly hot

I have been DYING to see Mark play any of the Observation Duty games, especially after seeing the Grumps and a few other favorites of mine go through the gauntlet of each game. The Observation Duty series is SUCH a treat, and I'm so hyped that its getting the recognition it deserves now.
