I worked at a Subway in a small town from ages 16 to 19, the owners and manager always made sure we had two closers and asked us to make sure each of us got to our cars safely after closing. Often the manager would visit around closing just to make double sure we were okay. I didn't realize how lucky we were to have people looking out for us as kids. It's horrible how common these kinds of crimes are.
I was 15 and they let me close by myself. I had some traumatizing interactions waiting outside in the dark on the concert because I wasn’t allowed to wait inside.
Most of the restaurants I worked had a policy where you couldn’t take out the trash/leave out the back door at night for safety, we just put the garbage next to the front doors for morning shift to throw out, and I’ve never had to close alone at night they always had two closers one of them usually being a manager or at least a shift lead.
You're very lucky. I once called out my old manager for having two 16 yrs old girls closing by themselves and how horribly unsafe that was, and she fired me for it. 🫠
no one underage should be closing stores, much less on their own, 16yos are still kids, even someone at 18 should have someone older/more experienced with them. Going to take this a step further and say underaged workers shouldn't work alone ever.
imo, this is less about luck or privilege, and more about it being a travesty that most people don't have that safety. it should be mandatory to protect and check in on your employees like this.
The barista element is a clever way to accentuate the fear. There's nothing _scary_ about it, but it's designed to require a lot of your attention, so your brain gets distracted with that and any horror elements thus stick out like a sore, uncanny thumb. Great design: give the player something to occupy their mind and give them a "normal" so that the weird stuff is weird _to the game itself,_ not just to what we'd expect from real life.
I absolutely loved the one section where the schoolgirls were talking in the background while the two fellows up front were talking about their order. It's rare to see thought given to a sort of red herring moment and also gives that scene a lot of life. We all have moments when we overhear something that we aren't necessarily supposed to be focused on, but focus on anyways. It was such a small but powerful way to reinforce the atmosphere and the threat of the stalker.
This game is brilliant. While it also provides horror elements, it also raises awareness to how women are harassed so frequently. I don’t usually enjoy horror games however this one is very well designed.
42:56 For Mark, and anyone else who didn't know, the guy who turned around on the bus wasn't looking at the girl. He was looking at the stalker sitting behind her.
@@DrDolan2000 someone else should get permission from him and actually do that haha mark's too busy with movies and stuff to do that sort of thing i think
It truly depends where your place of business may be. For example: may you tend to a McDonald's establishment, you would be more than correct. The McDonald's worker will likely be doomed to many last-minute calls for "mY SoN WaNtS a HaPpPy MeAl!!" Whilst if you were to tend to higher-end clothing line, it would be no diffrent to a middle-day shift, perhaps even lesser so. Granted this serenity would be interrupted by the occasional last-minute purchase, still lesser to McDonald's.
"Am I in danger or am I just gonna be annoyed?" is pretty much THE experience of working any type of customer service especially in late evenings and nights.
I don't miss delivering to the ghetto at 2 AM with no porch lights on or house numbers for blocks. I also don't miss people trying to get in my car while I'm pulling away from a house, or sitting at a stop sign.
Spoilers: for people that didnt notice, there is actually two different "stalkers". the first stalker is the long tall guy with the creepy face, who we are introduced with at the beginning that we helped return his phone. we see him after we get off the bus, and also when he comes into the coffee shop once and doesnt buy anything and just sits the whole time and then leaves. the second stalker is the man in the hoodie. he is the one that creepily stands outside the store windows as we talk with the old man at the register. he also then comes in and orders pastries and a bunch of milk, and sits in the blind spot of the store and leaves the photo of us on the table. it is then revealed that HE is the one who has been living in the back of the store. so in conclusion to clear things up, the phone guy stalker, is the one that actually physically tries to attack us and depending on what ending you get, murders us; and the second stalker, hoodie dude, is the milk guy that was snapping pics of us and living in the store, but doesnt actually physically harm us. you can tell they are two different men bc 1. their faces are very different (hoodie guy is much younger looking and generally has a nicer looking face) 2. phone stalker guy and also the one that jumpsacres us at the closing sign (and eventually attacks us) is like 6'6" whereas hoodie milk guy is only around 5'6". you can tell the height difference by comparing when each walk into the cafe and walk past the bookcases by the door! 3. their clothes Anyways-just thought i'd share this since i dont think i've watched one lets player who actually came to this realization that there were two different stalkers!
I thought the hoodie guy was actually just a red herring, or working with the scary stalker, I didn't consider that there could be two... maybe it was him that took the bodies?
Yeah, is very interesting how there were two stalker following the MC, but there's other men being creepy too, like the "nice" guy that ask for MC's phone number and the one that stares at you in the bus (42:56). I feel this game was made with the idea that male players can understand how dangerous the world is for a woman that is on her own, the paranoia that every man could a potencial r*pist and murderer
The interaction with the woman at 45:34 was such a wholesome breath of fresh air tbh. Even though the bracelets were a scam, she gave something she believed was genuine.
Çoğu bileklik asla aldatmaca değildir bazıları gerçekten insanları koruyor ve kolluyor bu hepsi için geçerli değildir lütfen bir dahakine önyargılı davranmayalım thankssss
There’s the horror aspect of having a stalker after you but there’s elements of psychological horror related to dealing with creepy costumers, a fast paced job and a boss that doesn’t care about your well being at all.
@@n4t39 Yeah man. Everytime a customer went in the building. I thought bro your scary. But then we see on the train ride, the guy looking back. He is not the stalker. He was was looking at the real stalker. Who was behind the girl. Which we can get a glimpse of if we turn back to look at him after the bus ride through the window as it drives away. Giving more fear of people are creepy. But really their hiding the real creepy ones. Which makes a perfect mix for a horror element and game. It's so real.
58:10 Mark is the ONLY person so far that I've seen play this game that put two and two together that the woman was pushing an empty stroller and sniffling. She's clearly in denial and grieving.
@@Mant111 You clearly didn't pay attention to what he just said, when she comes into the shop later, the baby is not in the pram, so it stands to reason that the child died of hypothermia based on the previous encounter that you just mentioned. The sniffling explains why she has the empty pram, denial.
Fr, I had a coworker tell me that in the past, customers have threatened to shoot cashiers over really small things. She never said they had a gun, so I don't know if they had anything, but like that's just so INSANE! Once it was because the cashier didn't put bags in a cart like what??
I think the worst part is at 1:04:18 due to what happened, like its not explicity stated but you can tell by the dmg effect and nois ewhat the man is doing to the woman, it fucking terrifys me.
The thing that makes this feel like a horror game are how easily the game strips you of comfort. I always check the back of my car before I get in, I don't walk around after dark unless at least two people know where I'm at, and I make sure all the doors I can lock are locked. I've worked terrible fast food jobs where I've been harassed by coworkers, and I've been yelled at by a customer until my manager had to get involved. That's the reality of working night shift as a woman in a customer service job. That's why this game is so disarming; the danger compounds with the high-pressure environment and uncomfortable situations. You can't just quit. You can't just run away. You're forced to work alone, unprotected, while people stare creepily at you from across the lobby. You can't always take safety precautions if you want to keep your job.
goddamn... job first, safety later?? That sucks. People need to get priorities straight and protect their staff, this should be illegal. Can't they provide you with some sort of weapon for self-defense? Or just not have people do solo closing-shifts? Honestly, regardless of gender, nobody should solo close-shift for danger reasons and accountability reasons, it's honestly just so bullshit what people have to go through to keep their job and get paid. I'm so sorry. All we can do is tough it out and fight for our safety it used to be (and someplaces still is) women's rights now ig it's women's safety! jeez
Thank you! I knew that this game felt familiar, that explains it. I’ve never worked as a barista but I have worked later at night at an archery range. And it got uh… uncomfy at times. Especially since sometimes I was the only one presenting female.
This is what and why I tell other people or ladies the advice I try to give when I can. Never give up or let someone take your feeling of safety away. There are always options or opportunities you can do or take to prevent these situations. If people give up too soon, then that dreadful thing will happen. I've been there and I know what it's like but I told myself never again. I got a different job if the one I had wasn't working, I took safety precautions, I got protection either by weapon or by people, and I put myself in the mindset even though the world is more dangerous for someone like me. I wouldn't let that stop me from living a normal life and not in fear. Even when I've had a few scary moments. I put on my determine, crazy aura that you better leve me be or one of us is dying today and it ain't gonna be me! That right there works everytime if nothing else because you are letting the person know you don't fear them. Even if something happens, you won't let them take that fight out of you! This is my advice and advice everyone should give no matter what! There are always options, never let anyone or anything make you feel otherwise.
@@KaySaly to add to one of your points, making somewhat of a scene can also have the benefit of making you seem like more trouble than it's worth, instead of an easy target, and it seems like sometimes that's good enough for someone to leave you alone
Things Mark has to deal with in this game: weirdass customers getting insulted getting creeped on constant condescension always working alone unreasonable work expectations customers complaining about price weirdass drink orders & people who don't know the name of the drink they want Going into denial "I'm fine with this." Whoever made this game has worked in food service before.
What's the unreasonable work expectation? The barista seems to be pretty slow before closing so the girl is able to accomplish all her necessary tasks in a timely manner, and she's not being asked to do anything you're average cashier doesn't do.
Or in retail. I've had to deal with all of these things working in retail granted I do work in food service in a retail store but our cashiers and floor workers also have to as well.
as a starbucks barista this game really hits hard because we deal with creeps so often. its our job to be overly nice and a lot of customers misread that as flirting. i currently have a customer im about to report to my manager because he will not stop harassing me. its gotten to the point where he gets upset if anyone else but me takes his order. this game is so scary because its so so unfortunately realistic and i hate that this is the reality we live in where this is an actual possibility
i feel you. i used to work at a starbucks, i had proof of someone harassing and stalking me even at work, and management said they couldn’t do anything because he hadn’t laid a hand on me or said it in the store when they were around. it truly is the scariest feeling, someone watching you constantly. i wish you the best of luck
some men can get so lonely, any kindness shown from the opposite sex is amplified due to their high sensitivity from not having received any female attention. if they're mentally ill and obsessive it can turn them into threatening stalkers. *loneliness and mental illnesses go in hand.* not worth the risk at all, unfortunately you must learn the slight differences in your vocal tone and facial expressions. avoid eye contact, seem a bit aloof yet still attentive enough to receive orders without disrespect, etc. in other words, don't overly be welcoming to the man. imo all women should carry forms of self-defense, it boggles my mind how in some countries like the UK, a mere pepper spray is illegal.
1:07:34 I felt sick to my stomach right here, when I immediately realized that Mark didn’t check the back seat. I knew in that moment what was most likely about to happen to him.😭
My husband once asked me why I lock the car doors if I’m going to be back in a few minutes and nothing is in the car. I was just like… so someone doesn’t hide in the backseat! He’d never ever thought about it
Omg the fear of taking the trash out alone at night- especially after you just had a creepy interaction so you’re on edge/high alert- literally a feeling I haven’t felt in a minute and it was as an absolute gut-punch to remember how terrifying it is.
Imagine being such a dedicated barista that all the lights go out and scary demon people come in to your store while you're all alone, and you just continue to make latte after latte like an absolute champ
@@tpd1864blake It was definitely supposed to be a nightmare. The clock outside the window is the same as the alarm clock when the character wakes up in their bed afterwards.
It kind of felt like the 'jankiness' just added to the unsettling nature of this game in general. Gave such chills to what's being depicted as you continue through. Creepy. I'd say the creators definitely conveyed their aim and mood they wanted to portray. Wew.
Nah that's just a poor excuse for an unpolished product. If anything the game becomes comical with they way all the characters look and move. It's much better for a horror game to get progressively unsettling as things actually start to get weird, instead of everything being buggy and everyone giving the sense of the uncanny valley, even if there isn't supposed to be anything off with them.
That’s always the annoying part of watching mark play horror games…it’s sometimes like he physically can’t get invested unless it’s a FNaF game or a game with an obvious and active threat…and even then he has an annoying habit of antagonizing said threat
Whenever Mark said "Senpai" I could only think of Yandere Simulator. And whenever he said "bussin" my mind went straight back to Bussin' by AK-69 (a japanese rapper, which kind of fits with the game).
As strange/amusing as it is when Mark yells random threats such as "I'LL EAT YOUR SPLEEN!!", it's actually a pretty good survival tactic. If you can convince people around you that you're batshit crazy, 9 times out of 10 they'll leave you alone, even if they were interested in you before.
This actually isn't true - statistics prove that mentally ill people are much more likely to be harassed, attacked, or killed compared to people who aren't mentally ill, and people assumed to be mentally ill / behavior associated with mental illness is often seen as threatening and criminalized (as many mentally ill people risk having the police called on them for visibly exhibiting symptoms). The rhetoric that "acting crazy" will get people you leave you alone is blatantly untrue if you look into actual studies into violence and mental health, and is based in bigoted stereotypes; in reality, it typically puts you in more danger to be perceived as mentally ill.
You'd be surprised at how scarily accurate a lot of the interactions can be. Part of the horror IS the barista element. Even as a dude, I've dealt with the weird people coming in mostly naked or on drugs or both, or the people who just say what they want with no other words and then they just STARE at everything you do while you make their shit. The people who come in and are overly friendly and willing to share about their day and life when you have social anxiety/ don't want to talk/ are just trying to do your job. People talking and talking and talking while they should be ordering and holding everything up by not having their orders ready/ money figured out, and of course, actually robbery. Now we can get into the fact that the company I was at for 7 years (left as a manager) I saw more times than I could count, super creepy interactions that girls I worked with had to go through generally because the manager is the one dealing with this shit on shift I did personally, the guy in this game didn't gaf which would be shitty. in 2 extreme cases they literally were stalked at work and, one culminated in her beating the dudes ass because he followed her home, and the other one the police were called and a restraining order was filed because the guy refused to leave the store so she could safely walk to her car. I would say the reason this game is scary is that fact that this IS real life. This game is the reality of things
as a barista i’ve been subject to men being hella inappropriate, making me feel uncomfortable and even sexually harassing me at one point. while i’m like…sir, it’s in my job description to be nice.
This game is so terrifyingly accurate in capturing the feeling that so many women get at work, or even just going to their car. I switched to a mid shift at work and now that it gets dark by 4pm, I stay near a camera when I'm outside on my break, and I walk to my car with my keys between my fingers--Wolverine style. Where I work we get a lot of creepy guys, and due to multiple interactions with multiple of these types, I often find myself thinking of exit routes in the store. "How fast can I get to the break room? Will anyone be in there to help? What about the Manager's office, or the utility room? If I need to, I can hide behind these large boxes in this shelf..." The managers don't do anything about these customers, because a sale is a sale...
That’s fucking awful, I’m a 4’9 Latina girl so I’m always watching my back because I know I’m clearly an easy target since I’m so small. I’m considering getting one of those extendable batons for protection because I’m just personally uncomfortable with potentially having a taser or g*n. Plus, those things can still do a lot of damage and decent whack would probably make someone think twice about messing with me.
@@gabbykabins4333 you should reconsider atleast the taser, it's better to have something that doesn't take alot if force to use, and you can still use it as long as both your arms aren't constrained, even if you are grabbed, or something like a knife that can break the skin and cause more damge easily
If owning and open or concealed carrying a gun is legal in your state, I highly recommend getting one. It's worst case scenario, but if something does happen then you'll have a much better chance of deterring someone from attacking, or stopping an active attacker. A taser is better if you aren't comfortable with guns or the idea of shooting someone, and *most* people will be incapacitated when they get tased. Pepper spray is also effective, although its less desirable since the attacker could be wearing goggles or a mask of some sort that would make pepper spray much less effective.
The scariest part ab this for me is that I've had people stalk me at job before so I know the fear it brings to not know what their angle is. Obv I know it to a lesser extent than this and the dude got arrested in my case but it's definitely a unique and terrible feeling that situation can inspire
I definitely get where you're coming from too. Im glad you're okay. one time when I was working 3rd shift at a previous job (thankfully we always have 2 people on a shift) a gentleman came in around 2am from out of town and he... wasn't in his right mind. he kept hitting on me. asking me extremely personal questions. my coworker thought it was hilarious, she was in the office giggling up a storm. I was polite and denied his advances but he was persistent. he kept saying he wanted kids. wanted me to go with him. then he legit got down on one knee and proposed to me. I shit you not. I was freaking out but scared he would come around around counter and hurt me. after almost 45 minutes he finally left. I was super scared and freaked out. thankfully I never saw him again. was too scared to call the police out of fear of not being taken seriously...
@@lemonywater2979 I am! Some coworkers helped me and told him to leave and when that didn't work my manager kicked him out and got police involved. I heard he was creepy to a few other employees too, I'm just glad he's gone. I start to panic whenever I see certain kinds of leather jackets now though lmao. I'm a cashier so he always came through my line, eventually with like one item week after week. Then one time he cornered me in my aisle and put his hands on me and I don't rlly remember much after that, just what my friend told me after. Still remember the nauseating mint smell tho. They told him to fuck off and eventually spoke up for me when he didn't leave me alone. Hope he rots.
Just recently when I was still in high school this guy from another class had apparently been stalking me for two years. He knew I have a dog that I take out on walks, he knew I have an elder brother who took my dog in the evenings, and he knew I didn’t come out much in the evenings. That was something not even close friends knew as some sort of fact. Only probably one or two people apart from my family knew about me not wanting to be out in the evenings for any reason or the other. And I live in a pretty guarded area. So this guy one day waited for me outside for like 2 hours in the afternoon on a very hot day- easily above 40°C, while I was at my friend’s house and waited till I was alone to approach me. I’d seen him loitering around when we were going to her house and also to mine to get my dog. We were concerned about the guy when we had seen him and were even considering to approach him to ask whether he was okay. Not only that, I had a feeling we were being watched, and lo and behold that guy was a bit away from us with his phone pointed to our, and when I pointed him out to my friends he acted as if he were taking a video of the scenery around. Anyways, he approaches me and introduces himself as a friend of a friend saying that he had told him about me and he’d been wanted to talk to me for a while now. Then he tells me how I don’t get out in the evenings, and that he’d waited 7 hours on another occasion to meet me. Then he proudly tells me how he had seen me 2 years ago, describing my outfit and that my dog had barked at him, “probably because he didn’t like the way I was looking at his owner”. There was no one around, and I was tired and just wanted to go home, not to mention how hot it was. I couldn’t have run away or fought him, I didn’t know what his intentions were, and my dog is rather big and he was too tired so I couldn’t run with him in that state too. So i asked for his Instagram and got hold of his name, but then I noticed this guy had liked a couple posts of mine a few days ago. It was really creepy. I’m okay now, thankfully I told my brother and he took care of everything, although I’m afraid we didn’t report him to the school authorities, thanks to certain prior experiences we’ve had with them to know they won’t do anything and blame me instead. My parents also got me some pepper spray because this was just too much, and I wasn’t to leave the house without a friend. God only knows what all he knew about me and what he could do next. I’m glad to say that quite a bit of time has passed since then and I’m completely safe :)
NEVER assume the killer is dead, he is more likely knocked out. Tie him up after checking that he isn't dead, then you can call the cops. Just make sure he can't escape easily.
yes... the animalistic noises make it QUITE clear in a truly sick and scary way. The scene always makes me mad/fearful. Its well done, the game's laser focus on how damn scary it is to just try and live your simple daily life when you are seen as something to prey upon.
I love how 80% of this is just a barista simulator and 20% is horror game, yet it still manages to creep the hell out of the players. I mean, you just know something bad is gonna happen, and the tension builds up everyday, each time the shop closes for the night. Great game! Also, Mark's reactions are very on point 💀
@@alekpo2000 God this is so weird. I had already read your comment halfway through the video so I don't know why this happened. But I scrolled down to the comment section at the end of the video and for some reason my brain read Japanese as jalapeno.
Honestly. I work as a barista and we had a customer who ordered her drink, we told her the price at the window, she kinda shrugged it off and then drove to the second window. Handed the drink out and she goes "$7 for this?" And basically just refused to take it or pay for it. I want someone to animate this with Mark doing the entire "take this take this take this" bit he had when making some of the drinks for him to be handing one person a bunch of random things
As someone who has both been a barista, and had a super creepy stalker, this is so accurate. There was something oddly comforting about seeing Mark reacting the same way as I have to these things in real life. From checking the back seat of the car, to being afraid to leave work, or even take out the trash, and looking for some kind of weapon. I really appreciated it, even as I squirmed uncontrollably with discomfort while watching it.
A Glock 17 would’ve fixed the entire problem though. Stay strapped stay safe. Guns are equalizers specifically because a 5’4” rail thin woman can still defend herself against a 6’3” 250 pound block of muscle. Most of the time, cops can’t help with stalkers when they try to, because they don’t have Star Trek transporters yet, and in this game the cops aren’t even trying. Life is a struggle, this world is unsafe, and there are plenty of evil people in it. Your defense is, unfortunately your responsibility if only because only you can actually control it. Fortunately, ever since colt invented the 1911, you have nearly complete control over your safety.
@@feartheghus I don't disagree. I'm from Arizona, and have known how to handle guns since I was about 11. I always have a 9mm locked away in my car when driving for work, but I also have two young kids, so I have to walk the safety line very carefully. They haven't handled guns yet, but my husband and I have been teaching them gun safety with their toy weapons (bows and arrows and pretend star wars blasters) since they could talk. We have both our daughters enrolled in Kung Fu as well, and I've learned a number of self defence tactics from my uncle, who's a marine vet. People are crazy. I agree, it's best to be prepared, so long as you do it safely and intelligently.
the first 10-15 minutes of this was absolute terror because it was so real. Scariest moments are when you're on a new service job and you haven't been properly trained and you're expected to work without help and a bunch of customers come in thinking you know what you're doing.
and then the customers are condescending and like "are you neww?" and you're like yes! i am! and my trainer showed me how to do this one time before taking a thirty minute smoke break!
Yeah, that part was too real. I actually got kind of stressed when he looked at the training tapes. Trying to remember where everything was and in which order to do all the tasks, just... Vietnam flashbacks of the highest order ensued :)
Exactly! My gosh yes. Older people looove to make it a generational thing too, like "Oh you don't know what you're doing because you're either not paying attention or you just don't give a shit." Meanwhile it's THEIR generation that's not teaching us properly, throwing us to the wolves like Senpai in the game. They're the ones that don't give a shit, who dont have a clue what good work ethic is and refuse to have the sympathy or even the patience to teach. You'd think they'd want efficiency as bad as the customers expect it pft.

It's scary because being in a scenario like this CAN happen in real life. It's not like a horror game with a fictional monster in a scenario that wouldn't happen. Instead, it shows just how scary it is for employees when working at night shifts alone and how uneasy it feels to get customers late at night. A lot of people may not realize it, but stalkers are terrifying, and this game proves. They might not sound as terrifying as a monster, but they certainly are a monster at best.
When delusion takes over a human mind, it transforms people into something inhuman. Stalkers lose their humanity very quickly as their delusions take over.
I’m impressed that Mark managed to get all the endings. Also, I wouldn’t be too surprised if this game was based off a true story. It’s terrible that these kinds of things do happen in real life.
@@corahtheskeleton8062 one guy said it on a video can't remember it it's name but the story is. There was a women who was a barista like in the game the stalker had been following her for years and ended up killing her
as a starbucks barista that is mainly a closer this is terrifying and im thankful that it’s illegal to be in the building alone. also, aside from not using espresso, these recipes were pretty accurate!
as a former Starbucks barista myself who worked at multiple different locations, this game ESPECIALLY hit home. Throughout the stores I worked at, each of the closing managers still wanted trash taken out after dark despite it being against the rules and I just... this game really highlights why that SHOULDN'T have been a thing. -Stuff like that is why I quit.-

Mark: "I don't know who'd be getting coffee this late.." Me: *Casually sipping coffee at 3:30am while binge-watching all his videos* "How very dare you.."
The most horrific aspect is that this game gives such a familiar fear being a girl walking to her car. Most people being so dismissive and the rest creepy. That truly lonely feeling where you know you only got yourself.
with my first ex, whenever we would go anywhere, i created this new fear for myself with like, NEEDING to protect her at all costs, meaning like, whenever we’d come back from the grocery store, or get into my truck late at night, i would ALWAYS, check the backseat before we both got in. it was just a habit
I’ve never seen the escape through vent scene cuz everyone usually figures out how to drop the brick but ofc Mark with his HUGE brain somehow figures out how to use the screwdriver 💀
I thought Jack was going to do that in his play-through because I’m pretty sure he found the vent after he died on his first try, but he ended up also using the brick, and I was always wondering what the other ending was.
God, I love this game. The ending of coming back home, without your phone, the night of your attack by a stalker who got away: never, ever do that. Plus the lack of support the whole game, her horrible boss, the private investigator discouraging the police, the weird and disturbing customers who could have also become a stalker. The feeling of dread knowing that it will go horribly wrong, while still wanting to finish your shift and to find a safe space, amazing.
Lixian really is amazing at editing, i hope he never leaves Mark’s side they complement each other so well Edit: i said compliment instead of complement… lmao
I have to agree Mark. The response to "I'm being stalked" is NOT incredulous and rude remarks. That Senpai was probably only saved by the fact that Japanese society tends to be pressured towards behaving, not making a scene. That said, this person's attitude would've still gotten them beaten up in school.
That's one thing I can't stand about modern Japanese society, the way people in situations like this, especially women and girls, are expected to shut up and take it and not bother anyone else with their problems, sometimes even including the police. It's worst for girls and women who get groped on crowded trains--a girl it happens to usually expected to just let it happen, and if she cries out for help and "makes a scene", as their society likes to put it, all she'll typically get is disapproving stares from the other passengers, as if being silently told to stop bothering everyone. And then if she reports it to the police, they'll all too often dismiss it because, get this, *it's too embarrassing a matter for them to deal with.* And this is in spite of such molestation literally being addressed as a CRIME on signs at train stations in major cities!

As a barista at starbucks, the anxiety you got from the group of men that came in at the beginning is so relatable bc sometimes we get a 40 item order and its usually just 3 of us actually making the order

To be fair, a mad dash for the car might've been more doable if the stalker didn't move so unrealistically fast. Not at all a safe option but if you just want /out/ of a terrifying situation it's not a weird one to pick, especially since the stalker doesn't move from the other end of the building 'til after you can't see him.
45:42 Anyone who has ever worked in service has had at least one of these customers. The kind that just makes your day. A friend of mine has finished taking an order and just gone "i wanna give that person a smooch" because they're just really nice! It's the little things. Be nice to your service workers, everyone.
So I really like this game and I would definitely rewatch it but really quick I want to stamp a trigger warning at 1:03:30 cause I just found the noises in this part very disturbing. It could be just me but if any other girlies want to be forewarned, this game is about a girl being stalked, Mark gets the girl caught at this point, she is attacked, and the noises from the attack are just awful. You could skip about 20 secs. It’s just a heads up just in case. Please enjoy the video and have a nice day ♡
I watched another youtuber play it and either she didn’t get this ending or I didn’t realize but… when I saw people warn abt it then saw it it’s very obvious and tramatic… and of course mark didn’t get it. Cuz. Well. He doesn’t have to particularly worry abt such a situation as much as the common woman.
As a current batista that had an issue with stalking in my first few months of work, I can confidently say that this is almost exactly what it's like. Now granted Mark is right that no real coffee store would be open at horrendously late hours of the night but given my coffeeshop runs till 7pm (in which some part of the year are dark at this point of the day) I can say it can feel as such. This definitely hit the right strings for that fear factor and despite the obvious flaws, this is a very well made game! Well done
It's weird how common stalking is among baristas. Like, I work as a barista as well, and at my old work, there was a gal that was being stalked by a man. They actually had to ban him from the store, and walk her to her car every day.
The coffee shop at my workplace is open till 12am some nights, but it's not quite the same because it's inside a club, so they have the protection of club security and extensive CCTV.
Same here, I had a guy come in VERY often, who was more than 10 years older then me and barely knew me, and he gave me the kind of compliments that a high schooler gives to their girlfriend. Needless to say, I felt very uncomfy. Thankfully they didn’t take it outside of my work place
Love how Mark hyped himself up to fight the stalker when he first comes in the store, as a woman who has dealt with creepy customers I have definitely ran over a similar script in my head to get the Fight reaction in "Fight or Flight".
Same, I'm a cashier but I also work stock before the store opens so I always have my box cutter on me. Certain repeat offenders that come into the store mentally send me straight into the "Try some shit with me or my coworkers if you want to, fucker" category, lmao. Thankfully I have a security guard and general manager in my store that actually listen to us when we have issues with people that come in to creep or be unnecessarily aggressive. It's not a super safe neighborhood to begin with, so they know not to brush us off when we point unsafe activity out. We have a lot of friendly regulars that speak up for us too, so it's rare for us to have to call the cops, but some people just will NOT back off.
@@HappyElsen Oh, I'm so glad you actually have people who listen and have a fucking head on right! Also the boxcutter, very smart choice. Any creepy mf lays a hand on you, they won't have it in 10 seconds lmao! i hope everyone here stays safe and has a good day/night!
@@HappyElsen oh, that's great that there are people who listen to you! /gen where i used to work, there was this girl sending me d3ath threats just bc her boyfriend was being friendly with me (we were just good friends, nothing more). i told my immediate supervisor and my higher manager, and stopped going to work for a while. they didn't do anything about it and kept forcing me to go to work knowing there was someone threatening me. i ended up quitting that job.
It's really great how the Stalker's design is juuuust generic enough while still looking creepy. His features are very vague, he looks like he could literally be *anyone*. That moment where he's panting at the door and swiveling his head at you is borderline traumatizing.
This is pretty good, mainly because most forms of media that portray stalking don't give an accurate depiction of just how terrifying it is. It's not just being scared when you go outside and leave your locked house, (or in this case when she left her apartment unlocked), they are often going to be traumatized by the built up fear. They will have nightmares, in some cases even years after the apparent threat is gone, or the person was caught and arrested. It causes unbelievable amounts of stress, and the worst thing is people don't pay much mind to it because nobody was 'hurt' yet, completely ignoring the fact that the victim is not only suffering emotional and psychological damage, but the crime is literally still being committed. If I could give police, or anybody who knows a victim some advice, take any stalking claims seriously. In many cases it could be a misunderstanding or paranoia, but even in those cases not taking them seriously will lead to someone suffering from a crime that isn't actually happening. And for those few that are real... yeah any cop regret it if the individual who came into their department a week ago begging for help shows up dead, naked and abused, abandoned in a ditch... well any cop that isn't heartless that is. It's not worth risking that by ignoring it, just to make your job easier, that's like saying a chef should make their job easier by not cooking food... that's literally what they are hired to do. You can't just only serve 75% of your customers, so why would you only listen to 75% of the people asking for you to help. That's your job!
I think when people make huge claims like “I’m depressed and I’m going to x y and z” or “I’m being stalked” benefit of the doubt is really important Depending on the case, the person could be wrong or lying, but weigh the negatives of helping a liar over not helping a.. truther??
Yeah. And there may actually be very little to convince a person who is terrified to even tell the police, whether or not something critical has already occurred, because the punishment is very little. Nothing like the fear of what someone who was already a threat to you will do once you've put them in jail and then they get out. Also re: benefit of the doubt, this is something that really bothers me - that is, many people seem to act like those who DO lie about this sort of thing are somehow in any way related to those who don't. They're not! They have nothing to do with real victims! afjajhgdf, people who lie are also damaging those who are really suffering, adding another factor to the fear of reporting/telling others. And they should not be used as an excuse to distrust someone who may really need help.
Want to avoid all this shit? Carry a fucking gun on you, legal or not. It's VERY simple. "oH bUt wHaT iF cOPs fInD iT" Well, take some fucking risks in life, that's what I say. I'd rather get arrested for carrying an illegal firearm (or for using it in self defense) than dying to some creep, guy or girl alike (I guess I shouldn't say girl, right? It's not polite of me for not following the trend of thinking that only men are responsible for rape, murder, stalking and so on)
@@genkureshima9834 You don't have to worry here about whether or not we think women are also capable of these wrongdoings. Many of us that I've seen in this comment section are speaking from the perspective of women who have experienced things like this as women dealing with men. That doesn't mean we don't think it happens in other ways as well. We are just most knowledgeable about our experiences. I see this stress/annoyed reaction from men a lot when talking about rape and abuse online, and I'd like to assure you that those of us who are women who are aware of these problems have also talked to men in the same boat (or women at the hands of other women, etc). So we don't think it doesn't exist. People should feel free to share their thoughts without feeling like they are not allowed to. xx

I love how this game’s actual coffee shop mechanics make you forget so easily that this is actually a horror game. Great job to the developers because literally every time the coffee shop section happened I forgot it was a horror game and got scared lol
yup, i think the overwhelming number of tasks and steps are made to make you almost forget it's a horror game and that someone's watching you. when you have a stalker that's usually how it is; very often people don't notice their stalkers bc they're sneaky and over time they get bolder and bolder (like the nutcase in the game getting closer to the protag) they learn their victim's routine and habits so that they don't look suspicious. it's incredibly relatable and well made
@@unicorn69 It has a few different meanings. The most common one (and the reason it comes up so often in high school dramas) is "upper classman". That is, someone in the grade above your own. So if you're a senior, you don't have any senpai.

This game chilled me to the bone, mostly due to how realistically scary it was. I was curled up in a ball slightly because I was so nervous! This was really well done
I think the worst part of this game, is that it absolutely nails how it feels to work closing shifts. As someone who normally has to and has had to deal with harassment on multiple occasions- this just hits so hard. Had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, down to the entire autopilot mode of making lattes. The devs did amazing.
I love how Mark's fight or flight response is perma-locked on FIGHT. Makes for a different kind of experience of the protag, and I 100% buy that his version of her gouged out the creep's brain with a screwdriver. Very interesting how different the same character can feel depending on who is playing them, despite being confined to the same linear path.
this gave me a flashback to a buried memory. Working concessions was fine, but I hated when people in a group would discuss what they wanted with each other while ordering. I get why people do it you are just chatting and bam here you are and you don't know what to order but dear God as a poor underpaid teen hearing so many people ask for things, have other people say no, change what they order, you start grabbing their food they change their minds again, you grab new stuff, take old stuff off the order, ask if the order is right, they say yes, but oops it's actually not and they just paid and now you need your boss to give them a refund, or they want something else or they forgot something. This during a huge rush was a nightmare and happened way to often when I had little to no time for error
As a seasoned customer service person, 1 way to get people to either hurry up or move out of the way for patrons that actually are ready is : " folks, I'll gladly take your order when you are ready, until then, may I ask to take the next guest and take you as soon as you are all ready?". Once you have tried your best effort at "move tf outta the way for those who are ready".. then it's not on you and everyone in line can be mad at THEM and not you. Customer service is your job.. serve the guest. If you are not serving the guest, you are not doing your job. Don't let people keep you from doing your job. You can only do so much. I hate the "and then" people personally. "Can I get that?", I get it, "can I also get that?", I get it, "oh yeah can I also get that too?".. TELL ME EVERYTHING AT ONCE!!!!!! cuz nothing will piss a person off faster than getting your order taken and the person taking your order says "what else?" After every item you list. Don't "what else" people lol.
God that sounds infuriating lmao I mean thank god I've never had a customer service job but my social anxiety is bad enough that the thought of inconveniencing people trying to do their jobs just irks me. Whenever I'm at a place and am still deciding what I want I usually try the tactic of letting a couple of people go in front of me so I have time to work out my order lol
58:12 the fact that she came in all dressed in black, no baby in the carriage, and sniffling without saying a word just tells a whole other tragic side story that I'm pretty sure Mark picked up on real fast...

This game was incredibly well done. And I appreciate Mark's incredible ability to be so sarcastic and humourous the whole time while also not making light of how awful the subject matter is. When stuff gets real, he takes it seriously. And that is probably the scariest and saddest thing that stuck with me the whole video; that this is just a horror video game for Mark and for many of us, but it is a genuinely real horror for many people in the world. Thinking about the fact that people in the real world have to live with the fear this game instilled in us makes me feel sick. Amazing game and an amazing video. I am very grateful this exists.
I was the last to leave work, the one I had at eighteen. It was just past one AM, and as I sat in my car, I got a text from someone I only knew vaguely from my high school circle a couple years before, basically asking how work was and we should hang out now that I'm not busy. I spun my head like an owl and didn't see anyone or any cars, the town was small and we had been one of the very last places to close in the whole county for the night, it was just silent out. I still had to stop and feed horses before I went in my house that night, very rural, no one would hear or see anything. So before I drove off I texted a couple people my concerns and that I was heading home, I'd tell them when I was there. And then at the barn I kept one on the phone the whole time, grateful and apologetic he stayed awake that late to do that for me, and then rushed into my house to double lock the doors and check the curtains were shut. I blocked the number but told my manager I wouldn't stay that late again, and got a different job and number soon after.
If it's your first time seeing this game: The convo Mark missed between the women (about hearing someone breathing) was that there was a creeper on the bus and they had to get off the bus early, and who knows what would have happened to them if they hadn't.

I was thinking the SAME EXACT thing while watching this video

It truly depends where your place of business may be. For example: may you tend to a McDonald's establishment, you would be more than correct. The McDonald's worker will likely be doomed to many last-minute calls for "mY SoN WaNtS a HaPpPy MeAl!!" Whilst if you were to tend to higher-end clothing line, it would be no diffrent to a middle-day shift, perhaps even lesser so. Granted this serenity would be interrupted by the occasional last-minute purchase, still lesser to McDonald's.

Spoilers:
for people that didnt notice, there is actually two different "stalkers".
the first stalker is the long tall guy with the creepy face, who we are introduced with at the beginning that we helped return his phone. we see him after we get off the bus, and also when he comes into the coffee shop once and doesnt buy anything and just sits the whole time and then leaves.
the second stalker is the man in the hoodie. he is the one that creepily stands outside the store windows as we talk with the old man at the register. he also then comes in and orders pastries and a bunch of milk, and sits in the blind spot of the store and leaves the photo of us on the table. it is then revealed that HE is the one who has been living in the back of the store.
so in conclusion to clear things up, the phone guy stalker, is the one that actually physically tries to attack us and depending on what ending you get, murders us; and the second stalker, hoodie dude, is the milk guy that was snapping pics of us and living in the store, but doesnt actually physically harm us.
you can tell they are two different men bc 1. their faces are very different (hoodie guy is much younger looking and generally has a nicer looking face) 2. phone stalker guy and also the one that jumpsacres us at the closing sign (and eventually attacks us) is like 6'6" whereas hoodie milk guy is only around 5'6". you can tell the height difference by comparing when each walk into the cafe and walk past the bookcases by the door! 3. their clothes

All we can do is tough it out and fight for our safety
it used to be (and someplaces still is) women's rights now ig it's women's safety!
jeez
Thank you!
I knew that this game felt familiar, that explains it. I’ve never worked as a barista but I have worked later at night at an archery range. And it got uh… uncomfy at times.
Especially since sometimes I was the only one presenting female.
Another reason I don't work.
Things Mark has to deal with in this game:
weirdass customers

What's the unreasonable work expectation? The barista seems to be pretty slow before closing so the girl is able to accomplish all her necessary tasks in a timely manner, and she's not being asked to do anything you're average cashier doesn't do.

Don’t forget his tootsies of steel. The magic of them probably gave him the motivation to do this.
as a starbucks barista this game really hits hard because we deal with creeps so often. its our job to be overly nice and a lot of customers misread that as flirting. i currently have a customer im about to report to my manager because he will not stop harassing me. its gotten to the point where he gets upset if anyone else but me takes his order. this game is so scary because its so so unfortunately realistic and i hate that this is the reality we live in where this is an actual possibility

LMAO YEAH
Where are we? I missed the "bussin" and I definitely need to know
As strange/amusing as it is when Mark yells random threats such as "I'LL EAT YOUR SPLEEN!!", it's actually a pretty good survival tactic.

Boo hoo
Can you carry in your state?

On top on trying to evaluate the situation- is the “creepy appearing” awkward man the stalker? Is it the guy who was hanging out in the background but then becomes super nice by buying someone else’s drink?
Whoever made this game was a woman or got amazing women team members for feed back. Because this is perfect representation of what cycling thoughts of fears and justification are inside your head 24/7.
As someone who's trying to escape Retail Hell, I can confirm that you'd be expected to put the store's closing procedures above your own safety!
Worked at Burger King. Had an armed criminal escape and be in the area. "In the area" means cops were searching the building beside us and the woods surrounding our location....... still had to finish closing duties before my manager and I left.
Once began bleeding out of my nose due to exhaustion, I was put to rest for a few minutes on a dirty piece of cardboard then was asked to go back to work and finish the rest of the shit
Also spent Christmas covering for EVERYONE ELSE'S SHIFT because everyone there knows each other, and they just decided to not come to work that day with no warning or permission whatsoever and as far as I know they were never punished
meanwhile I was BEGGED to stay and cover the entire day when I was ready to leave, and literally depressed I couldn't spend the day with my family because of these assholes
Also sleeping inside the job only to wake up the next day and work again was a regular occurrence that they tried REALLY HARD to convince me was nothing to worry about and that I should totally do it to save time
When I quit my job in order to commit to art and making commissions for money, on top of the fact I was developing an allergic reaction to the sanitizer I was asked to spray every day, and were only given a pair of gloves to prevent, which did NOT WORK
My family would go on to tell me I'm a lazy fuck who doesn't know the luck I have for having a job, and that they have had it way worse than me in every conceivable way no matter what I told them, so that meant I was a little bitch for leaving
I hate retail and I hate people who refuse to recognize it's fucking inhumane
@@Jack_Woods Wow... wth... I'm so sorry you had to go through that and worse your family then calling you lazy .-.
I work at a popular coffee shop that I won’t disclose the name of, and the coffee grinder malfunctioned and fell on our former shift’s arm when she tried to fix it, which injured her considerably so we left.
Did you mean real life monsters? Because that's what stalkers are--real life monsters.
When delusion takes over a human mind, it transforms people into something inhuman. Stalkers lose their humanity very quickly as their delusions take over.

Seeing mark struggle to use the brick correctly was a really high IQ moment
The most horrific aspect is that this game gives such a familiar fear being a girl walking to her car. Most people being so dismissive and the rest creepy. That truly lonely feeling where you know you only got yourself.
with my first ex, whenever we would go anywhere, i created this new fear for myself with like, NEEDING to protect her at all costs, meaning like, whenever we’d come back from the grocery store, or get into my truck late at night, i would ALWAYS, check the backseat before we both got in. it was just a habit

I didn't really find those customers weird but agree with everything else (aside from shoyra)

I have to agree Mark. The response to "I'm being stalked" is NOT incredulous and rude remarks. That Senpai was probably only saved by the fact that Japanese society tends to be pressured towards behaving, not making a scene. That said, this person's attitude would've still gotten them beaten up in school.
In my experience people like these save their bullying and shitty authoritative attitudes for when they reach positions of power.

Thankfully I have a security guard and general manager in my store that actually listen to us when we have issues with people that come in to creep or be unnecessarily aggressive. It's not a super safe neighborhood to begin with, so they know not to brush us off when we point unsafe activity out. @aether ☪️ That sucks, that they would treat you like that. I hope you found a better job
I think when people make huge claims like “I’m depressed and I’m going to x y and z” or “I’m being stalked” benefit of the doubt is really important
Depending on the case, the person could be wrong or lying, but weigh the negatives of helping a liar over not helping a.. truther??
People should feel free to share their thoughts without feeling like they are not allowed to. xx

@@jokairou489 trust me it was reported and brought to several peoples’ attention and even my coworkers tried to get something done about it but unfortunately because it was food service we were the ones who got in trouble, because “this kind of stuff comes with the job” and we needed to “thicken our skin”. lots of my friends have very similar experiences and it’s just extremely disturbing and disappointing that this can happen even in areas considered more safe or liberal, especially since i’m a well known individual in my community and have been targeted anonymously by my neighbors several times as an lgbt person. i’ve never been granted any additional protection or anything despite just trying to mind my business. it really really sucks and i’ve had to basically stop all activism since then. i miss it and i miss working in cafes. :(
I love how this game’s actual coffee shop mechanics make you forget so easily that this is actually a horror game. Great job to the developers because literally every time the coffee shop section happened I forgot it was a horror game and got scared lol
yup, i think the overwhelming number of tasks and steps are made to make you almost forget it's a horror game and that someone's watching you. when you have a stalker that's usually how it is; very often people don't notice their stalkers bc they're sneaky and over time they get bolder and bolder (like the nutcase in the game getting closer to the protag) they learn their victim's routine and habits so that they don't look suspicious. it's incredibly relatable and well made
Best part of this game's existence imo is that it's finally gonna teach some people that "senpai" doesn't mean "crush".
It means like “mentor”, right?
@@unicorn69 It has a few different meanings. The most common one (and the reason it comes up so often in high school dramas) is "upper classman". That is, someone in the grade above your own. So if you're a senior, you don't have any senpai.
I often work the closing shift at my job, and my coworkers and I typically enjoy telling each other horror stories about what could possibly go wrong while we're there
Anyone else prefer watching him play the barista simulator than the actual horror part of the game?
I thought that part looked pretty fun lol
Yeahhh
I enjoyed both aspects of this game equally.

It's so boring, yet I spend over an hour watching Mark be a good barista 😊
This game chilled me to the bone, mostly due to how realistically scary it was. I was curled up in a ball slightly because I was so nervous! This was really well done
Did it chill you because it's Chilla?
I know, I had flashbacks from being a barestia at dunken donuts.
me too :(
Lixian is such a good editor for changing the text to match Mark's words.

Mark: "Oh you're approaching me!"
Customer: "I can't place my order unless I come closer."
Mark: "OH HO, THEN COME AS CLOSE AS YOU LIKE!"
I'm currently experiencing that and it just makes me want to slam my head on the wall

Oh God, I hated when I got customers like that. And yet you have to comply with it because "the customer is always right" idea
God that sounds infuriating lmao
I mean thank god I've never had a customer service job but my social anxiety is bad enough that the thought of inconveniencing people trying to do their jobs just irks me.

@@agermanpotato6009 i read someone’s comment about how the stalker might’ve seen the altercation and “punished” the woman for messing (maybe not the right word?? but you get what i mean) with the MC. it’s not a common behavior but it does happen in some cases :]
I blocked the number but told my manager I wouldn't stay that late again, and got a different job and number soon after.
im really glad you were able to stay safe!
If it's your first time seeing this game: The convo Mark missed between the women (about hearing someone breathing) was that there was a creeper on the bus and they had to get off the bus early, and who knows what would have happened to them if they hadn't.
@@feartheghus Yes. Absolutely. Guns are the solution to everything. Nothing bad ever happens when guns are around.
@@feartheghus As much as guns are good for self defense, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be useful in a stalker situation.
@@j02killahz13 Indeed. Specially if you are untrained with it. Even an equalizer isn't so good if you can't operate it properly. Stalker could just rip it out of your hand in this scenario.
@@feartheghus Guns still need to be regulated. Note: NOT removed but manage who can get them better. We shouldn't live in a country where mass shootings are commonplace.
