Just took my new 502 to the range yesterday and was running some 22lr that I found in the closet. I had quite a few load failures off of it. Switched to some CCI I bought at the store last week and had no load failures. I have a suppressor in ATF jail right now. Should be getting it in a month or so. Looking forward to using it on this pistol. I had never heard of suppressor ammo. What is the main difference? Are they sub-sonic rounds? Less power and have problems cycling the rounds? I'll look into getting some of those when my suppressor comes in. As far as the old shelf ammo, I have an old bolt action rifle I'll run that crap through.
Thanks for sharing your experience. It’s hard to beat CCI ammunition for reliability. Yes CCI makes suppressor ammunition that’s subsonic, so it’s pretty darn quiet. They now make suppressor ammo specifically made to run in semi autos and cycle them. I’ve been trying to get my hands in some for some testing and will post a video once I do. Thanks for watching the video and sharing your experience. I think you’ll love running it suppressed.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU for this sir. I have a tremendous amount of respect for your highly instructional/informative videos,.. and your method of presentation is SORELY needed. You do a great service to Responsible Gun Owners, and I wish that there were more firearm enthusiasts such as yourself in society. You, (and others like you) show that there are responsible, civic-minded souls who respect firearms, and understand both their power, and proper purpose. So..in short. Thanks buddy.. Me & my Grandfather both got one of these when they first came out. We both love them. Mine shoots a little high & his is almost dead on, so I will eventually probably change to the other front sight, but we got them to run with optics, so haven't been very concerned with the iron sights anyway. As for the CCI Quiet, they released a version specifically for semi-autos just called Quiet Semi-Auto. 45 grains, slightly higher velocity, still very quiet. I've also found the 60 grain Aguila to run perfectly & be very quiet. I even tried some .22 Long & it ran totally fine.
That’s really cool that you and your Grandfather both got these pistols. I caught the gun bug from my Grandfather, but he died when I was 1. I would love to have been able to shoot with him. Thanks for sharing your experience with them. I have heard about the Quiet Semi Auto, I keep looking for it at Gun shops. But haven’t been able to get my hands on it as of yet.
I also have the FN 502. Recently I was shooting a friend's Walther P22, and it was also failing with the CCI Quiet. I never shot my FN with those, but by looking at your video, I'm assuming I'm going to have the same results. This ammo velocity is to low. I'm not sure if I'll work for anything.
Yes the CCI Quiet doesn’t have enough velocity to cycle the action. It would be really cool if it did though. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Walther and for watching my video.
CCI Quiet Semi-Auto is what you need. The standard Quiet won't work in any semi-auto. CCI even acknowledged that. The Semi-Auto Quiet ran great in my FN 502 & Glock 44, though. It's 45 grains & just slightly faster.
Nice review showing off different ammo and being honest about what didn't work with the gun. Also showing how to take it apart first review ive seen that showed that so good job. Oh and showing what you get in the box.
Well now this is a interesting video and a very nice 22 LR pistol. I bought one of these when I could find one which was very difficult around here and I'm glad that I did. My FN 502 tactical works flawlessly with all types of bulk ammo. There is only one thing that I don't care for and that is the long trigger reset. I have considered putting a Apex trigger in mine but I don't know if I want to stand the expense. You would think that as much as you have to pay for a 502 tactical that FN would have put a decent trigger already installed.
Thanks so much. I agree it would be nice if that had put a better trigger in it. I have another video you might enjoy. It the the FN 502 vs the Sig P322. Thanks for watching this one and sharing your experience with yours.
Mine lasted about 2 months before I started having problems. Maybe 1500 rounds. The slide would lock and stick past the actual slide lock. Then it starting not dropping the hammer when you, pull the trigger. Factory has it right now. Hopefully fixed permanently. It’s my first purchased gun and it doesn’t make me very happy. Only Cci mini mags have been fired through it.
That’s not good, I’m pushing 1,000 rounds so far. I haven’t run into any problems as of yet. I hope they get it fixed for you and this is an isolated issue. I have a Ruger MK2 with at least 20,000 rounds through it without any problems. I expect the same out of FN. I appreciate you sharing your experience. If I run into issues, I’ll share a video on it.
Thanks so much, I appreciate you sharing that. If you’re interested I recently posted a head to head with this pistol vs the new SIG P322. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the vid. I'm getting a 2.6 to 3 lb trigger pull with this pistol and I'm using a wheeler gauge, so I'm not sure how accurate they are. Good vid! 👍
I haven’t had a problem with the slide not dropping. I only have 1/2 a thumb and have trouble using the slide release on pretty much any pistol. That’s probably what you’re picking up on. You might like this video, it’s a comparison between the FN & Sig. Thanks for watching. ua-cam.com/video/Zd0Aq1fybHE/v-deo.html
I am sure a spring wearing out is possible, but highly unlikely. Magazine springs tend to wear out if a person leaves the magazine fully loaded for a long period of time. I have some semi automatic handguns that are approaching 100 years old and they function flawlessly. Thanks for watching,
Love the FN 502 /W the suppressor...fact - Leaving the mags loaded with ammo for long periods does Not ware them out or make them weaker...it is actually the repetative compression and uncompressed action of using the mags that over time may eventually weaken them... So the more frequently you shoot, could (possibly) weaken them over a long period.
What is the second front sight for that comes in the box? Also it’s my understanding that the front side is blocked out which I usually have trouble picking up with my old eyes. It is there something in the manual or on the plates that tell you what red dots they’re used with
Thanks for another comment. The second sight appears to be a different height. The pistol has a dovetail for installation. For optics mounting FN includes a chart that specifies what brand optic to use with each mounting plate. I hope this is helpful.
Thank you, I am glad you liked it. I wish I knew where you could get one. You might want to check gunbroker.com I walked into my local gun shop last Friday and they had just gotten it in. It was the first one they had been able to get. Good luck on finding one.
