As well as berating the driver of the Black Mercedes for blocking a charging bay, how about the white Mercedes next to your car that is also parked but not charging (not even plugged in) I am starting to see to many EV owners who think these are special bays for EV parking not EV charging. The message needs to be dropped
Im glad you picked up on this. Unfortunatly the near the store or services entrance these spaces are they will alway be used by SELF ENTITLED drivers, be it ICE drivers or Electric drivers with even bigger ego's entitlement when parking there and NOT charging, Intresting Dave not mentioning it, maybe he feels its ok to park there an not charge an EV car. The only way round this, is for each charger space to have a camera on it and a PCN when missed used. like the Esso (Euro Garage site) just outside Heathrow, it has a waiting limit and a long way for those charging, so each bay is monitored
Id expect them to pay me to go through all that hassle. Lifes too short. Only people with lots of free time and predictable lives can realistically use public chargers.
@@vernhill-wv7pp It's not the chargers, it's the ridiculous payment infrastructure. Whilst contactless is appealing, it needs to support authentication. Too many problems with too many apps! Only one that's bearable is Tesla - and great chargers.
100% agree - put the charging bays in the best spots and they WILL be ICE’d. You would think the designers of these installations would have figured this out by now!
Well done for taking on the driver of the black Mercedes driver, Dave, one never knows how these folk are likely to respond to being questioned. I’m sure some of these idiots are just looking for trouble.
Yes, do look out for the foaming mouths and snarling of us feral Ice drivers, lmao! Perhaps the driver of the black Mercedes already knew through hear say, those chargers aren't usable or just being a bit lazy?
@@tphughes76It may well be he intended to charge and found them not working like Dave did. In those circumstances he’s almost doing other EVs a service by stopping other EV drivers from wasting their time. Same thing happened to me in Rhos on Sea in Wales - I’d spent 10 minutes faffing before a local resident told me they were all offline so instead of moving from the space to a disabled spot ( which as I’m a wheelchair user is not a quick process) I left my car in it - the same as all the other EVs up and down the promenade.
Both the Mercedes EV parked next to you as not charging, then especially the other gent. What would they say if we spent 20 minutes parked in our EV at a filling station blocking the pumps?? Everyone needs to understand that EV chargers are for EV's needing to charge, not for parking an EV or non EV whilst you shop. People are becoming too lazy and I beleive we need parking restrictions added and enforced. Interestingly Aldi near me also seem to be missing from the Shell Recharge App.

Sure, just park your EV next to a petrol pump and if anyone questions you, just say that you are going to fill your car with petrol in your own time, when you feel like it, and just walk away.
The Merc driver is exactly the same type of person who will park in a disabled bay - because it is nearest the store entrance; most Sunday mornings, the local Lidl Disabled spaces are entirely filled with expensive cars - all without a blue badge, as the posh people do not want their posh cars dented by the plebs in the normal parking spaces - I have even seen one Range Rover park across TWO disabled bays, just to make doubly sure (but THAT was at Aldi).
@@davetakesiton How do you scan the qr code and plug in from inside your car ..... could you tell us all where to get one of these types of car please.
This is where Teslas Super chargers are amazing, you reverse in to the bay, get out and lift the charge cable, press the little button on the handle to open your charge flap, plug in and done, your Tesla is charging. One time setup to add your payment methods!
@@nickwinn7812 Only times I use a smartphone for EV charging is at older Tesla superchargers (for non-Tesla) and if there's a discount for using the app. Any other time in DC chargers is credit card or RFID. AC chargers are a completely different problem - but there I usually charge at home.
You have to be careful Dave their are many nutcases about who couldn't car less hurting you even if you are big. Some of these morons pretend they don't know but they do.I parked with a big wheelchair sticker on my backwindow.Still somebody parked very close to me without any need. There was plenty of room in the car park.
Another perfect example of why EV ownership is a misery, unless you can charge overnight at home, and only use it for journeys of around 2/3 of the cars real range for the time of year. EV's make brilliant second cars for local runs, but lack of reliable and cheap public charging infrastructure makes long journeys stressful.
95% of people just needs car to drive to work and to the store. In these modern days people don't have money for heating in winter, so they don't travel a lot.
A perfect video for all EV haters to say: "There you have proved my point, EVs are crap and will never work". Who the hell is going to go through all that palaver just to put a slow charge in their car? While you were faffing with that I could have had my shopping done and been on my way home. I have a a Tesla and an MG Zs EV and this video just made me so mad!!! Even though I own two EVs if any of my friends said to me: "I can't charge at home but should I get an EV?" I would respond with a big fat NO!!!
Interested to note, the Mercedes next to you is not plugged in. So it is blocking the bay, just as much as the angry bmw driver. Also, this car park is so badly layed out and the bays are soo small. Putting the charging bays next to the doors is just encouraging all types of drivers to park there even if not charging. the shell chargers are also at my local Aldi, they are awful to use, even with an rfid card. I’ve given up trying to use them
Yes Dave was a little bit biased against the petrol cars when a big Merc EV was doing exactly the same. Having said that, petrol cars blocking chargers are not on and should be stopped by whatever means are necessary.
The problem here is Shell Recharge, they will not allow you to order an RFID card even if you want one, nor will they allow you to add a credit card to your account and now they have even stopped direct payments. All you get is error messages like you said. Unless the charger has a credit card or rfid reader, they will not currently work, so that’s every single Aldi in the country?!
Someone maybe needs to get out more (or maybe less)?! What a complete Faff! 🥱 ‘Something went wrong, please contact customer services’………….. say no more 🤦🏻♂️🤣 Think I’ll stick with the turbo diesel, 650 miles range for £90 and 5 minutes at the pump once every 3 weeks 👍🏻
Indeed. 700 miles from my tank of diesel which takes less than 5 minutes. At a designated place rather than a supermarket car park. With a variety of options on how to pay, even cash (because apps phones and cards always work, don't they)
🤣Someone is blocking the charging point. If not, the charger doesn't work. I'll still with my hybrid. I wouldn't be able to have an EV even if I wanted to, I live in one of those tiny terraced houses with a tiny front garden. Can't be having a cable charging an EV just for a neighbour to unplug it and charge theirs next to mine at my expense and I can't be late for work either. Got to laugh. Cheers Dave, fight the fight and perhaps one day EV's will be the norm. My brother in law popped round to show off his new EV, he's a smug twat. He asked us if he could plug it in so he could get back to London. I let him with the cable across the small pavement outside our house. When he was charged he suddenly had to leave us and go home. Thanks for showing your new car off to us Chris, such a privilege mate 🤪😝 Before he left I said to him "When we come up next to visit you, make sure you have some spare petrol so we can go back home!". TWAT !
Not much room between charging bays to open doors! Bays will always be iced when they are so close & convenient to supermarket entrance. If new chargers won’t work we’re doomed 😂
If you place them next to the entrance there will ALWAYS be: - an entitled ICE driver just blocking it - an entitled EV owner with a fully-charged battery - someone with a "handicap" badge if there were none of THOSE free These are unlikely to be a long-term solution ANYWAY unless Shell gets a LOT more serious with them
I can't see that, given Shell UK were one of the organisations who lobbied the previous government to bring *forward* the original 2035 ban on the sale of new ICE to 2030. The National Grid were another organisation who also lobbied for the same change.... Don't forget Shell UK own (or at least did own) an energy supply company, supplying domestic properties.... They also have an EV charging network.
Could be a bit of extra revenue for Aldi to fine the drivers abusing the rules. Like if you overstay you get a fine. Just point an ANPR at the bays and if the car is not EV fine them. Simples.
Shell Recharge runs the EV chargers in my local Waitrose. You have to pay for parking else the parking attendant will book you. Shall I send him to Preston next time 😀

@@alancole9 if you can charge at home, you'll be motoring at less than 2p a mile. AC charging at supermarkets used to work nicely when it was free. You're doing your shopping and in that half an hour, you've probably replaced the energy that it's taken for you to get there. Supermarket was happy, because you'd probably hung about longer than you might've done otherwise and bought a few extra items. Problem is that since the energy crisis, wild EV charging has remained very expensive making it difficult to understand a case for AC supermarket charging at all. I'd be surprised if any of them are used if they're not in some sort of tourist destination. It's just not practical to leave the car charging for long enough to get any meaningful amount of charge. What's really needed is DC rapid chargers which are cheap and reliable. Fortunately Tesla are already there to help with the supercharger network.
Therein lies the problem with a lot of AC charge points, by the time you've plugged in your own cable and got it to work you just waste a load of time. Rapid chargers tend to be a lot more reliable. The amount of time you'd have wasted figuring it out vs the amount of charge you'd actually get from an 11kW charger whilst doing a shop is just not worth it!
Goodness me, I thought EVs were so cheap to run because the range on charge was more than enough for "normal people" and we'd never need to do more than we could charge at home. (Despite most people in the UK not able to charge at home, of course.) And look, you need to mess around for ages and faff around with mobiles, apps, QR codes and so on, and finding out that virtually none of the payment options are available, All while getting worked up about someone in a charging bay who wasn't charging, while having all the other charging bays available to use. And an 11kw charge while you are shopping in an Aldi (let's say half an hour for most people) will get you how many miles from that charger? Imagine, this is "The Future"?! I'll pass ta. And
@@dgilbert222and with mainstream media like the BBC finally starting to report on ferocious EV fires maybe the tide is starting to turn towards the truth than the propaganda.
Electric cars were the future over h7ndred years ago, fifty years ago and they are failing now as it was intended. Keep hold of your old petrol and diesel cars, the whole market is coming down!
AC charging at stores like this makes no sense. At big shopping malls where you may stay for hours is a different matter. Stores where you're done in 15-20 minutes need DC fast chargers. Kempower is perfect in these places as the satellites are small and the charger rack can be easier to place outside the lots.
@@Gazer75 agree completely. These chargers are going to fall apart and be largely unused because most people will be charging at home for 7p per kWh. It was a different story when supermarket AC chargers were free because there was an incentive to get your cable out and perhaps spend a bit more money and time in the shop. Aldi and the others need to rethink.
@@martinwray7001 In my town we have free parking if you charge at some locations. Still limited to 2-3 hours. So instead of paying 20 NOK/hour I'd rather plug in and get some energy for roughly 4.3 NOK/kWh. I can just reduce the amps in the car if I want to. No rule that say I can't charge at 5-6 amps :)
OMG !!!!!!!!!!! What a faff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. In my ICE MB I can get enough diesel fuel in seconds at the local store for 100's of miles....BUT here, we are still wandering around looking for a live connection !!!! As dave states, "what a cock up "!!!!!
Omg what a faff. I'll stick to my 3 mins stop at a petrol station once a week or every 500 or so miles. I couldn't be doing with all that faffing & then have to wait around for ages for it to fill up. If that's the future I'm glad I'm approaching retirement age
@@NickyB62 But they didn't know the chargers didn't work, I would agree with you if there was a sign saying "chargers not working, use the space as normal" but these guys are just entitled idiots. The car park was mostly empty as well.
You don’t! You charge up overnight at home at a considerably lower cost than Petrol/Diesel. We have only once used a public charger and that was to make sure we knew how to work them in case we needed to. P.s. the money we save using our EV helps fund the running costs of my 5 litre V8 toy😉
In the time it takes you to sort out your app on your phone and plug in your car potentially in the pouring rain. I would have driven into the petrol station under cover, filled up and paid and be on my way with a tank of fuel that will give me nearly 600 miles range.
Thanks for taking it on Dave! As someone who just bought their first ev less than a month ago I love my new car, but find the incompatibility between chargers annoying. It would be so nice if the charging companies got together and made a standard where they all worked similarly to each other. It is annoying to have to download a new app for every different brand and fuss with the charger for ten minutes to figure out how to get it to work.
Agreed, I'm also a new EV owner, love the car, and will charge 99% at home, but I'm exploring the public charging options for potential future use. I have downloaded seven different apps for seven different charging companies, not including PlugShare which tells me where to find all the chargers, but is not tied to one charging company. Many local chargers have been vandalized (cables removed by thieves), and not repaired in months. I like the idea of carrying your own cable and just having a socket to plug into. ALL public chargers should have tap to pay options, just like gas pumps, and only require an app if you want a loyalty discount.
All that environmental damage you are causing by driving that EV, to get the materials for the battery, plus the wearing out of roads due to the huge weight of the battery.
@@mw01908 Lol, you're barking up the wrong tree. I traded my Lotus in on a Cadillac ATS-V because I hated the lack of road feel of M3's when I needed a 4 door sedan. When I grudgingly accepted that I needed an SUV, I drove a Cayenne and was disappointed. It really felt like a step down. On a whim I tried a Tesla X, and quickly became enamored with the electric torque. I just couldn't warm up to the meh interior of the Tesla. I was getting my Cadillac serviced with an Lyriq caught my eye, and I ended up getting a twin motor awd Lyriq. I have never bought a car because I was trying to save the world. I am not saving the world, I wanted to get an SUV that was fun to drive.
And I could park in front of a petrol pump, nowhere does it say I can’t but if I did I would consider myself a total plonker, dipstick, moron and lunatic
What an absolute load of faffing about. Just get a petrol or diesel and get on with it. If it was raining even worse. I’m sorry bet EV’s just are not the answer.
The whole ac charging at supermarkets thing has been poorly thought out. Most people going to a supermarket are local anyway, and as such will do their charging at home at 7p per kWh. Unless you can allow the car to charge all day, whats the point? You're only going to get a max of 11kWh in an hour and a lot of car parks issue a parking charge after 1.5 hours. So, people without off-street parking will need to charge somewhere, but that'll never work on ac, particularly if it's so hard to initiate a charge and/or avoid the bell-enz who will park anywhere in their fossil powered cars.
Yes Martin that's why I am pushing for supermarkets to have working chargers but also to open up their car parks overnight free of charge. It costs them nothing. While those who can charge at home for 7p won't charge in their local supermarket at 25p, those who can't might.
@@davetakesiton more power to you. If you want to initiate some sort of E- petition, I'm sure myself and your other followers would share it far and wide.
What your seeing here is new stores having to put chargers in as a planning requirement. They chose the absolute cheapest minimum options to meet that requirement. Job done as far as they are concerned. As for the the Merc drivers... parking eye will soon be cashing in on the non electric cars parking in those bays! They don't miss a trick to bring in £££.
I'd have been walking to the kiosk to pay for my V Power petrol before you had even scanned the QR code. Look at the size of those EV's, you can't even walk between the two cars let alone open a door to get in/out LOL !
I've seen alot of disabled parking replaced by ev charging. It's done to save money not so handy for the disabled though. Best not park to close to an ev especially if its charging. What's worse is alot of them don't work, just done to look good for the statistics
Brave or stupid that Merc driver took a risk parking there, I always give charging bays a wide birth (and electric cars in general) whenever i park! No risk you say, see State Farms.
I do the same, trouble is it doesn't stop someone following in next to you with an EV after you've parked. I further mitigate that risk by always parking between ice vehicles already parked there.
These chargers should have built-in payment system similar to those parking meters and never heavily rely on apps. I blame the EV industry for this and Aldi should literally stop wasting money on shite that just does not work and pressure the industry to build better chargers that do not rely on stupid apps.
And the cost. And the insurance cost. And the range. And the time wasted charging. And the repair costs, tyre costs, brakes cost. And the fire risk danger.
Costs are significantly lower with an EV. Servicing every 2 years/16,000 miles, brakes hardly get any major wear because of regen braking plus less moving parts so less points of failure. Wouldn’t drive one if I couldn’t charge from home but I won’t be going back to ICE
This is why I would never ever buy an EV, what a total pain in the back side having to carry cables which are a trip hazard, mucking around trying to find how to pay when I can just drive in to a petrol station and fill up in less than five minutes and pay at the pump. Electric is not the future
My local Aldi. I've tried before and failed the same as you. It's not on ZapMap either. How on earth are we supposed to go all EV with this kind of faff going on? It's crazy. Hope you got some shopping in an and a brew in LoomLoft!
These units need the internet connection… the hotline number says the electricity is on and works but the ALDI shop should connect the data otherwise it can’t take payment… Most managers are apathetic to your ev needs… My local ALDI on cleethorpes road had the same problem, I mentioned the internet and they connected it was working!!! for a while… But now has a red permanent light… another talk to the manager and still no results… Other nearby ALDI shop charges are the same ( not connected data to the internet) In the end Ive given up on ALDI for charging as no one else around is motivated to maintain and keep these things going or clear of ice vehicles 🤷♂️
According to the Shell Recharge website, the 11kW chargers at my local Aldi are £0.62 per kWh. Why are the chargers on this video £0.25? Maybe because they don't work?
I have just bought a Tesla and luckily I have just got a home charger installed, but one thing that shocked me was the massive difference in price for the same charger on different apps - Wesham Hospital 7kw near Preston, 20p on Zappap and Mer, but 75p on Shell Recharge! Might be worth making a video if this is a common thing...
Cameras on the chargers, automatic billing via DVLA records for idle time if you park there and are not charging, start at £10. Double the charge every time the same car parks there. Won’t take long to get the message.
A lot of supermarkets do have their chargers some distance from the entrance which stops them getting ICEd. Sainsbury’s in Hemel Hempstead has several 150kw chargers which I used a couple of weeks ago. They are far enough away to discourage ICEing, but not far enough to make walking to and from them a chore.
Local ish asda near me moved the ev bays to to far end of the car park for same reason as they had additional problems with EV cars ICEing ev cars (using them to park up but not plugged in) or at 80-90% when they turn up (shouldn't be charging) or a "plug in only hybrid" abusing the bays by plugging in there 4kw limited cars into 12kw or DC rapid charger bays
Get real, they didn't spend money moving them for that reason. They moved them so when they catch fire at least the whole store doesn't burn down It's called due diligence and risk assessments, and more than likely on advice of the fire service. Quite possibly something to do with their insurance too.
This is why I never use these destination chargers as they are so unreliable - when away from home I'll just pay the extra and use reliable rapid brands. Happily most of the time I charge at home and love it but for those that can't I couldn't reccommend EV unless they have big budget and can afford one with big range and don't care about rapid costs. Also please stop putting the charging bays near the entrance put them further back as the self entitled jerks will always park close if they want whether its a charging bay or a disabled bay. I also wouldn't use Aldi at all as their car parks seem to hand out fines even when you've done everything properly.
id say its pretty obvious why, the same as people park in parent and child spaces. larger bays and closer to the store. of course there are some dramas around people thinking they do what they like, we used to see alot of people taking 2 bays to ensure they had space either side so their cars didnt get dented, then came the private car park companies who started dishing out £100 fines, im shocked they havent just put cameras on each 'special' parking bay to dish out some easy fines...
If I can go to a gas station, swipe a card, and get gas. Why can’t I go to a charge station, swipe a card, and get electricity? Why are these companies so hellbent on over engineering the purchase process with an app!? This is the reason I drive a Tesla, and exclusively charge at superchargers on my road trips.
The Public Charge Point Regulations will for the most part address this issue. New chargers installed after November 2024 (8kW+) will have to accept contactless payment (Credit/Debit) as must chargers of 50kW+. The regulations also include requirements around reliability, pricing information and support.
I was trying to charge through the APP myself for over 30 mins... only thing that worked with these Aldi chargers was the Electroverse card which i was charged 65p not 25p. Total con....was advertised as 25p but was charged 65p. Emailed Shell Support and got nothing back. Disgrace.
I’d contact Electroverse support (not the general Octopus email) about that particularly if the app stated the rate was 25p/kWh. I had a problem with Fuuse chargers using the Electroverse app and they advised that they had sorted the problem out with Fuuse and gave me a £5 credit as compensation for the trouble I had. I also would have phoned the customer services phone number whilst at that Aldi store to see if they could sort it out remotely before giving up. If they’re new chargers there should also be a contactless option. I thought that was a new government regulation?
I usually leave my cheap uncomplicated easy ro run and reliable petrol Internal combustion engine dacia at home with half tank , and WALK TO SHOP . 😅 for the weight i loose while walking i can have a saussage roll and coffee at Greggs 😅
Love your vlogs but don't cast off RFID they are invaluable when you have no connectivity or the apps are down for maintenance you just tap and charge so so easy. Go to a remote charger in Scotland and use your mobile, all I will say is good luck. Also as a note contactless will not work without connectivity but RFID will.
@@RobertBlount-g8w 'Contactless', or better authentication, could work without connectivity. Remember signing the slip and then the supermarket put them all through as a batch overnight, then they got to terminals. Consider how well the M6 toll has worked! And then use a London bus with a credit card. Part of the issue is the Merchant Credit Code (MCC) for EV charging, but with high prices for charging it's not going to get like bus or underground travel.
As it happens, the ICE cars might as well park there for the time being, if the chargers aren't working. I'm sure that when the chargers are fixed and EV's start using them, people will realize what the purpose of those spots are, when they see the charging cables attached to the vehicles.
These spots should be on the other side of the lot....putting them right in front is a recipe for this time of behavior. We already see what drivers do to handicapped spots. There was one like this in my area at a Kroger, operated by Volta/Shell. Spots were really tight, ICE drivers were parking wrong, and I used it once and never again. The publix nearby have theirs on the far end of the lot and it helps immensely.
Don't scan QR codes (can be a scam if stuck over the genuine qr code) if you have installed the related ev app scanning the qr code is fine (as long as it's done via the related app)
@@davidilm3752 Exactly. Until public charging infrastructure works efficiently the practicality of EV ownership for drivers relying 100% on public charging means that an EV is not a realistic option.
Once again you choose to miss the point. Most public EV chargers work well, reliably and most at a half decent cost. My videos are designed to focus on those that don't. In other words get them all working well and cheaply. One video deliberately finding one that performs badly is not a viable excuse not to buy an EV and if you let it, without doing your own research in your specific area, then you really are falling for media hype over facts. Probably best not to buy an EV yet.
I did not choose to miss the point, in fact your video just points out some of the hurdles facing owners looking to drive an EV without the ability to charge at home. Firstly the ridiculously complicated way to pay for the charge. I realise that obviously the charges point cannot accept cash, but why not a simple card reader? My local petrol station has had them on every pump for as long as I can remember and they are simple to use and reliable. Even buskers in the Tube have them so it cannot be beyond the capability of charging companies to install them. I don't always carry my telephone with me for various reasons, but if I had to rely upon downloading apps and setting up accounts, then I don't think much of the future. As for most public charges working well and reliably, I suppose that depends where you are in the country. In the small town where I am we have 2 chargers in the local supermarket, both of which are out of order and have been for several months. There are 2 more chargers in the local civic centre car park, but that has a time limit of 90 minutes and is locked from 6.00 pm until 8.00am on weekdays, and closed at weekends. The nearest Tesla supercharger is 10 miles away and not open to all drivers. If you can charge at home none of this matters, if you rely upon public chargers 100% then it is a big problem. And that does not even begin to include the very high prices you have to pay for public charging.
This video proves the inanity of electric vehicles and their owners. Nobody makes videos about the trials, tribulations and costs of filling up cars with gasoline. Everybody makes videos about problems with electric vehicle charging. Electric vehicles are for people with more money than brains who can waste their time charging, looking for chargers, paying more for charging, and starting arguments with people at chargers.
Rather the the opposite, this video proves the absolute insanity and arrogance of ICE car drivers who feel they have to make a point and deliberately park where EVs want to charge despite there being an abundance of empty parking bays just feet away. How would you feel if I parked blocking petrol pumps because I don't like the fumes, toxic gases and carcinogenic chemicals that burning petrol releases?
@@davetakesiton If you waste time charging an EV, looking for chargers, and planning trips around chargers, your time is worthless. If your time is wortless, you are a worthless person. You're worried about toxic fumes released buy burning petrol? How about the toxic fumes released buy burning EVs? You can keep ignoring the clear and present danger of self-immolating cars, but the writing is on the wall: the giant Ameerican insurance company State Farm has just announced as of October 28th, all EV chargers at its Bloomington, Illinois headquarters are being removed DUE TO FIRE DANGER. How long before State Farm refuses to insure homeowners who charge EVs at home?

Oh dear this is putting fuel on the non EV brigades fire. I bet this is something to do with the payment system because as Dave pointed out there does appear to be electric to these. :-( what a mess. They should be commissioned and if not they should have a bag over them.
I spoke with some of the private attendants in my local supermarket they are confused also as there is no guidance for non EV owners parking in Charging stations unlike disabled parking spaces
I get the impression that Lidl and Aldi don't want it to work, just put in charges for planning purposes. I thought all new chargers were supposed to accept credit card payment by law
One of the new Lidl stores near me (Redditch) has the chargers (rapid and fast) at the far end of the car park. Never get ICED, but you try getting a parents/child space or disabled space which are right by the door and you'll be out of luck. I personally much to the disgust of my mother and father in law, park as far from the entrance as possible. No parking dents on either of my last two cars.
Thank you for doing this video. I am going to get my first EV next year and I am shocked with how rubbish this system is. The vast majority of my charging will be done at home and will only rarely need to use a charging station. I don't want apps getting in the way and don't want to set up an account. All that is required is to turn up, plug it into the car and pay with my credit card. Why is that too difficult to ask? I thought that the Government mandated that chargers had to accept credit cards? It looks like Lidl and Aldi are cheap, but not very cheerful.
Combustion cars parked in charging bays happens a lot here in Northern Ireland. I've even seen EV's parked in charging bays, and they're not even plugged in.
As well as berating the driver of the Black Mercedes for blocking a charging bay, how about the white Mercedes next to your car that is also parked but not charging (not even plugged in)
I am starting to see to many EV owners who think these are special bays for EV parking not EV charging. The message needs to be dropped
Yes, I've noticed that in a number of places. However of course those chargers don't work, so maybe they tried.
ICE drivers have no excuse.
Maybe the poor guy in the white Merc tried to charge and like Dave gave up as these are just rubbish.

You could probably have filled 20 cars with petrol trouble free and be back home by now
this is why i will not buy a electric car , waste to much time trying to charge it and what if it was raining hard nice video to put me off
Goodness me, I thought EVs were so cheap to run because the range on charge was more than enough for "normal people" and we'd never need to do more than we could charge at home. And look, you need to mess around for ages and faff around with mobiles, apps, QR codes and so on, and finding out that virtually none of the payment options are available, All while getting worked up about someone in a charging bay who wasn't charging, while having all the other charging bays available to use.

I couldn't be bothered with this. Download multitude of apps and faffing around with settings. Nah. I charge at home and use Tesla superchargers.
Just confirming if you can't charge at home stay with an ICE vehicle. It's never been the car but the infrastructure that's stopping sales

To be fair to the guy in the black car, you didn't actually use the charger either hehe heheh

Might be worth making a video if this is a common thing...
Cameras on the chargers, automatic billing via DVLA records for idle time if you park there and are not charging, start at £10. Double the charge every time the same car parks there. Won’t take long to get the message.
Cuckoo land thinking.
They're struggling to break even with public chargers as it is, without throwing those costs on top

Local ish asda near me moved the ev bays to to far end of the car park for same reason
as they had additional problems with EV cars ICEing ev cars (using them to park up but not plugged in) or at 80-90% when they turn up (shouldn't be charging)
or a "plug in only hybrid" abusing the bays by plugging in there 4kw limited cars into 12kw or DC rapid charger bays
Get real, they didn't spend money moving them for that reason. They moved them so when they catch fire at least the whole store doesn't burn down
It's called due diligence and risk assessments, and more than likely on advice of the fire service.
Ev's are a joke an expensive one
id say its pretty obvious why, the same as people park in parent and child spaces. larger bays and closer to the store. of course there are some dramas around people thinking they do what they like, we used to see alot of people taking 2 bays to ensure they had space either side so their cars didnt get dented, then came the private car park companies who started dishing out £100 fines, im shocked they havent just put cameras on each 'special' parking bay to dish out some easy fines...
Business valuations. App implies repeat business. Credit card is a one payment.😂
The Public Charge Point Regulations will for the most part address this issue. New chargers installed after November 2024 (8kW+) will have to accept contactless payment (Credit/Debit) as must chargers of 50kW+.
@@markbennett6658 I tried using a few bank cards none would work.

I usually leave my cheap uncomplicated easy ro run and reliable petrol Internal combustion engine dacia at home with half tank , and WALK TO SHOP . 😅 for the weight i loose while walking i can have a saussage roll and coffee at Greggs 😅
I had my EV for 12 months & got rid. Too many drenching's trying to get chargers to work Chargers are never under cover
Why are the EV parking bay widths smaller than the other parking bays?
What a joke😂
Your 15 min Aldi shopping spree turns into 3 hours. Hope they have portable potty next to charges
11kw - pointless unless you’re going to be able to charge all day.
It's a well known fact that Idiots cannot walk very far between their cars and anywhere else. Too much Brain power required.
Don't scan QR codes (can be a scam if stuck over the genuine qr code) if you have installed the related ev app scanning the qr code is fine (as long as it's done via the related app)
Thats MacMaster's brother🤣
This has to be the best reason not to buy an EV. As for ICE vehicles parking in the charging bays they may as well, after all the chargers don't work!
The best reason to not buy an EV? Well we can see you level of thinking in that statement alone.
It is no good EV fans saying that most chargers work. When was the last time you experienced a petrol station that was not working ?
@@1225KPHThe EV delusion doesn’t care about reality, fire, depreciation, additional tyre wear and particles or having to drink the overpriced hot water with granule coffee to charge in a soulless car park for the next four years, which is the rest of their EVs’ lifespan.
Oh dear this is putting fuel on the non EV brigades fire. I bet this is something to do with the payment system because as Dave pointed out there does appear to be electric to these. :-( what a mess. They should be commissioned and if not they should have a bag over them.
Those are some very narrow parking stalls, at least where your Model S was.
What a complete waste of time
I spoke with some of the private attendants in my local supermarket they are confused also as there is no guidance for non EV owners parking in Charging stations unlike disabled parking spaces
Then the wonder why people don't want a EVS .
