    Well done. I never busted mine out, because I took one look at the UI and was a bit intimidated, but it makes sense, thanks to you.

    hey thank you for the superb walkthrough! i was a day one backer and really appreciate Sonicware- one thing.. can you tempo sync LFO's? that feature is a valuable tool!

    • @ChrisLodyMusic
      @ChrisLodyMusic  3 роки тому +3

      Thanks very much. No that's not possible unfortunately, you can only ever approximate sync. The LFOto pitch as well as the morph and FM LFO will restart on new notes though which is useful for quasi sync, but LFO to cutoff won't.

    Do you prefer the 8bit or the LoFi 12?

    • @ChrisLodyMusic
      @ChrisLodyMusic  Рік тому +2

      If I had to choose one it would be the Lofi-12. It offers a lot more than the 8Bit Warps like more voices of polyphony, 4 separate tracks with their own effects and filters etc. There wouldn't be much on the chiptune side of things that the 8Bit can do that the Lofi-12 can't with the right samples, plus it's far more versatile overall. 8Bit Warps is still a nice machine though

    Very well explained. Thank You. I have a question about the forthcoming XFM. Will it be possible to set a pitch envelope so that a note falls in pitch during the sustain or release stages?

    • @ChrisLodyMusic
      @ChrisLodyMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you. Yes it'll do that. The pitch envelope is the same 8 stage type as used by the rest of the synth but it has 'level' settings that are in semitones from -48 to 48, rather than 0-127 steps. So sustain for example could fall at 0, at octaves or intervals above or below the played note. Each operator has an on/off setting to tell it if it's affected by the pitch envelope or not.

    Another big thanks for another great 8bit Warps tutorial! Dr. Endo has also been posting some very handy tutorials recently, He packed so much function into this box that there seems an endless amount of stuff to elaborate on. One bit of terminology that's got me head-scratching is "waveform capture". So really this just means saving a custom waveform/sound to the sound bank memory, correct?

    • @ChrisLodyMusic
      @ChrisLodyMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Yes there’s loads to explore on these little boxes, brilliant. Sorry if I glossed over the waveform capture a bit. Each waveform is stored as a set of 32 individual 8 bit values, there’s 64 user slots can be overwritten either by using the capture function or editing the waves. So you can create your own sampled waveforms essentially. Here is a tutorial from Sonicware about the capture function ua-cam.com/video/HnxESmn4AK8/v-deo.html

    You can generate sampled white noise by using fast and intense random modulation of both the FM ratio and depth. It operates like how actual sampled noise works (quick cycling of random waveforms).

    Can anyone tell me what's the power draw of this thing, how many A?

    • @ChrisLodyMusic
      @ChrisLodyMusic  Рік тому

      I can't find it in the spec but they come with a power supply capable of delivering 2 amps, though I suspect this is over spec. When I get some time I'll connect a multimeter in line and check what it actually is

    • @DaKILLaGod
      @DaKILLaGod Рік тому

      psus they sell for these devices have 1.7A, i tried with 9V 0.6A psu and it did not even get hot.. the specs are mostly overwhelmed..

    That birthday shipment of the xfm out yet? Lol ;-) I was having too much fun w/ the parameter lock modulations lastnight. Took me to another level... I was a bit buzzed but still.. Yeah. Gnarly esp when you do it and then scramble through the wav forms. With heavy reverb ofcourse.

      Don't know if you saw the news over on the Facebook group but manufacturing has been delayed a little due to it moving factories. Shouldn't hold things up too long though 🤞
      Yeah I love the sound of the 8bit Warps. Impressive how much they managed to cram into just 6 controls of FM on this

      I didn't hear no. That is ok. Sometimes good things take time ;-). 8bit is a lot of bang for buck and inspiration for 200 dollars that is for sure! I have convinced 1 other to purchase thus far and they are also blown away. A guitar person but still. :-)

    • @NoxBoxdy

      Also.. The delay will give time for YuEndo to post some 8bit cases for sale so I can get one in the same shipment.... Hint hint... Lol ;-) pass it along.. :-D

      @@ChrisLodyMusic I am not on Facebook. We don't even update anything on MidiStrata page on there but probably should. We are actually looking to source somewhere to make prototype board w a smt already.soldered for us of a remake of the old physical unit w 16 layers instead of 8 and of course able to chain for more layers. No issue w getting components but yeah the whole wait time is insane on everything in the world now. I just feel for my fam and folks in JP that still can't get vaccine nor time off right now. On top of shortages. Boring.

      Yeah it's a shame, but I'm not surprised really, must be incredibly difficult to launch a product at all at the moment. There's more details on the Sonicware blog but they're hoping for a delay of a month so fingers crossed they're ready for June 🤞

      @@martintaylor9205 completely understand your frustration, i just gotta input that Sonicware and Yu Endo really followed through customer-service-wise during the pandemic 2020. weekly updates on manufacturing and shipping, hard/software design/fixes, even optional offers for backers. they really did their best to keep people in the loop and were super transparent. i would totally buy the xfm if it fit my budget right now
