I’m 25, grew up in this church. Up until I was about 11 this worship was just a normal Sunday for me. There was an effort among my peers when I was around 11 years old to get rid of this music. After I attended other churches, I’ve realized this was a successful movement in pretty much every church across America. The golden age is passed. A masculine desire to strive for excellence has been killed by the feminine desire to not step on anyone’s feelings. Make no mistake historians who will write about church history in the future. The death of the American church was the adopting of the feminist movement by the Christian’s in America. A complete accepting of all the modern cultures ideals without question whether it was in the Bible or whether it forwarded God’s plan. This tragedy, my heart cannot bear. The only Christian’s I can take fellowship in, the only ones who still seem to have fervor, are in my own family. Jesus’s church is asleep at the wheel. That sleepiness makes me question whether they can still be called His church at all.
Came back to this arrangement this morning. As we look at a culture unraveling and bent on wickedness, this is a needful reminder that our God is omniscient and powerful and still on His throne.
I'll never forget the first time I stood in the congregation at First Baptist when the choir, orchestra and congregation sang "How Great Thou Art." The blessing was nearly overwhelming! Thanks for your comment. I glad it was a blessing to you!
Jane and I were both widowed. When we were married 5 years ago in a tiny English Parish Church, she chose this hymn and as we had a brass band and a small pipe organ, she wrote a special arrangement of the hymn. The organist, a friend and much respected, was so impressed that a few months later Jane was asked to write settings for a brass ensemble and organ at a big service at Wells Cathedral. It is very special to us.
I have listened to this arrangement of How Great Thou Art since I was small since our Church Choir sang this - and hopefully will sing it again in the future. Its power to invoke God's presence to any worship hall never fades. I love this arrangement.
Yes! It was the whole church as one choir. I know that I nearly fell on my knees and cried. As Dr Vines would say, if somebody would have cut my suspenders, I would have carried off into heaven!
I attended Trinity Baptist College in Jax for 3 years and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church while there. Every chance I had, I visited 1st Baptist Jax! I dearly loved Dr. Lindsay’s teaching and Dr. Vines’ preaching! The choir and orchestra is exactly the nearest to Heaven I think we can experience on earth! My what a blessing!
Wow.... I just found this. While no means a good Christian (far from it), I grew up in First Baptist in Jax, though I no longer live there. I remember Dr. Lindsey and Dr. Vines doing their thing up there. I especially remember the choir and orchestra. I've never heard it matched. Whoever posted this, thank you.
just found this. this is the version we are going to sing this august 21st at Cagayan de Oro, Philippines with Handel's Hallelujah as dubbed as 1000 Voices.
I must confess, David T. Clydesdale's arrangement has ruined me on that hymn. Ever since I first heard it in his easter conta. Other versions just can't produce the same "umph".

These were the most powerful Holy Spirit filled worship services I’ve ever attended in my life! ❤️

Praise God! These kinds of videos make me think of how the choirs in heaven will sound like. Can you imagine?
I wish First Baptist was still like this. Its sad to see where it was and where it is now.
Every time I watch the FBC Jax Choir sing David Clydesdale's arrangement of this song I am almost carried away to Heaven! Thanks for posting!

When I was in the choir, much of the arrangements were ascribed to Camp Kirkland.
