I've been a subscriber for years now and this year I have a student who stims all the time by rocking side to side and if it hadn't been for miss Abbie, I would definitely be put off by it. (I keep thinking she's gping to hurt herself one of these days with how intensely she rocks.) Anyway, she once told me I was the only teacher who doesn't say anything when she does it. That's bc I learned from you guys that it's a coping mechanism and a necessary thing just like me always having to play with my kneaded eraser. (I'm an art teacher.) My sweet student and I have more in common than people realize. Thank you for making her behavior "normal" to me. Hugs to Abbie.

I love the way Crystal has no hesitation in her voice when she approaches Abbie, no apprehension ever and never has. It shows in Abbie’s reaction, she doesn’t seem to doubt any decisions around her. 💖🌸🇦🇺

I have three cousins who have cognitive delays. One is on the spectrum and two have delays due to other causes. I can remember when in school it was the only school in area that had a special needs program. It served cognitive and physically disabled children. I loved helping out with the kids in the program because it not only helped them but I got to spend extra time with two of my cousins. I got to do that from the time I was in the 5th grade until high school graduation. I loved it. At family gatherings I spent my time with my challenged cousins and that gave their parents time to visit with family and friends they normally didn't get to spend time with.

I have 3 cousins that are on the spectrum…..1 is in the “Asperger’s” part of the spectrum, 1 more “middle of the road” is verbal and can do stuff but doesn’t want to participate much, and the other one is high functioning. I always interact with them, and my little cousin always comes to me to want to do stuff and his mom (my other cousin), always wonders why he comes to me if we are all together

@@ResidentKnitter0518 Actually it’s the opposite now if I’m not mistaken. Asperger’s has been removed from the dsm. So it can no longer be diagnosed. It’s not classified or recognized as being specific and or different/separate . Now it’s just diagnosable as autism spectrum disorders. The change is odd to me because we were thought that yes, dit is a form of autism on the vast spectrum but does indeed have different characteristics that are specific to Asperger’s due to the fact it isn’t found in other “tiers” of ASD. It honestly compels me to be very curious as to what other people think/have to say on the matter. 😊

I think you are very great parents to Abbie and she is very blessed to have such a supporting and loving family. I've never seen anything other wise that would say not. I have a problem with the older generation not understanding autism. It's not "acting like a brat" it's not "whining" it's an attempt to express overwhelming emotions the only way they know how. My nephew has autism and my parents just don't get it. That's why this channel is so important. It puts the information out there for people to find. Making them understand is a whole different thing but exposure and education of people who are different is what will teach people how to include others without being weird or awkward about it.
