It was like my brain was imagining another number, and at that time the answer made sense. Fifty or more long division problems. Simplifying fractions. Failures. And, even if I got a C, I was told to redo the entire assignment again because that wasn't good enough. Homework on top of new homework. So I just quit. Everything. Ah shit, y'know what? I got curious about the spelling. I was just crap shooting phonetically. It's De Varona. When I say that sound is burned into my brain I mean it.
@@ashwhiteforest9078 You sound like a smart guy/girl that really was destroyed by school, and I get you I literally have the exact same problems. When I do math equations, for example last time on a test that I was learning 30 hours for, my brain thought it would be cool idea to swap the equation formulas that you need to use for basically every equation on the test making my grade go from probably B+ to an E, my brain also does this thing where I can do the whole equation correctly, and at the end when I have to write down the result, I just write something completely different than what I just completed calculating. I also have dyslexia and I have to be given more time on tests, which should look like this: Everybody has 60 minutes to complete the test, and I receive 90 minutes. So I was on my way to school to write this test I studied so much for and somebody decided to faint on my train, so I had to catch another one because that one had to stop, I somehow made it but I literally had to run to make it, do you know how much additional time I received from the teacher even tho I was late (not because of my actions) and i even tho i have dyslexia? 5 minutes. I got 5 fuck*** minutes despite all of this, I get that this is a teacher issue but god damn it i have bad luck, and a bad teacher. But despite all of this I didn’t gave up. At the time I studied for 3 days, 10 hours a day a straight and right before school, I was just exhausted on this test, instead right now I’m learning every day, not because I need to, not because I want to. I learn because I’m not forced to, Oh the test is in a month? I’ll just start learning right now. I only learn in small amounts, and I make it as easy and comfy for myself as possible. I get a coffee/tea, a comfortable blanket, I launch the lofi hip hop stream, and I just go with it. The hardest part is actually starting, but once you do it’s easy, and there are 2 sayings, that motivate me every time to do hard things to the point where sometimes it’s annoying to remember them because I know that if I recall them I will do those hard things: if you won’t do it, the only person you’re cheating on is yourself, and do the hard work especially when you don’t feel like it :), and it’s not only for learning math of course, but going back to it when I write results I always go back and check whether i wrote them down correctly, practice makes prefect. I know the system is so fuck*** stupid but all you can realistically do is change you’re attidute towards it and play smart against it. I do the bare minimum on the subjects I don’t need for passing my final high school exam because they don’t matter (I’m from Europe, idk what the situation looks like in your country) and I give all of my time to the ones that I will need to use on the final exam. You just gotta make it work for you.The worst thing you can do is give up, and I don’t mean only school. I didn’t believe I could overcome this, and I did, and I bet there is somebody who wants you to succeed and get this fricking paper or whatever it is you want to succeed in, you can do it for them, and even if there is no one like this, I believe in you :)
@HQ I figured that out way too late in life. Almost all of my capability stems from habits and understandings I picked up less than ten years ago. I'm gonna be honest, if I had my life ahead of me now I'd become a complete menace to society. But yeah, that comes from believing in hard work and never giving up. I think decades of severe social isolation turned me into something of a faux psychopath. I have extreme emotional connections to things, but in the end, I found that so many powerful and law abiding people just got there from a combination of luck and being on the right side of the sword when the poppies fall. So my biggest piece of advice is exactly that. Don't learn to impress others. Learn specifically so you can crush them. A lack of intelligence can be countered with knowledge. If you can't figure it out yourself, steal, and most importantly, remember the answer. Come to terms with your dark side, make peace with your demons, and find out how to feed them. You wanna be a drug dealer? Be the best. Be the most affluent and capable criminal on earth, and absolutely crush everything in your way. Do *nothing* for the sake of people's approval, unless you feel that approval will genuinely fulfill you. That case? Go full Mother Theresa, and the *things* you learn about her. About Gandhi. It's almost no coincidence that my health began to fail the moment I realized just how little I really wanted or needed in life, and just how much I could get away with if I walked around like I genuinely owned the world already. Thing is I wanted everyone to feel that freedom, so while it seems dangerous and manipulative, I was extremely forthright about this, and even encouraged people to call me out on it. People actually love honesty, come to find. And suddenly I'm dying? Tell me that's not divine intervention. I'm probably gonna be in a heap of trouble for the answer I arrived at in life. But you can't say I was duplicitous or unfair about it.
i wish i could enjoy language arts (that’s what it’s called in my school) i got assigned a massive project that has almost no resemblance to what i have spent the year in language arts learning except the idea of -claim/thesis -3 examples to back up your claim -conclusion which has been tought at my school since 5th grade, so it seems pointless
I had a Math teacher who assigned 30 minutes of homework each class, and offered after school help for anyone who needed it. Every student that had a class with him (aside from one weirdo) said he was the best math teacher they ever had.
I love the way how schools blame everything for peoples mental health but they don't take the responsibility for it until: A) someone sues B) the kid commits suicide C) the teacher is caught doing devious things D) 10.9 million other things are bought up as to why the education system sucks and is failing E) all of the above in/ out of that order
@@drshockwaveIt's not entirely their fault. We're starting to see a demographic change in the work ethics of students and young workers. Not to sound like a parent but it genuinely is "those damn phones", nobody actually wants to put the effort forth for the reward at the end of it. Are Schools incredibly flawed? Yes. Are they responsible for tragedies like suicide? NO! The amount of hardship you have actually have to endure in order to go that far is simply impossible if you have either a good home life or good school life. Either one gives you a release from a shitty situation which helps alleviate mental health issues. What needs to happen is a complete restructuring of the entire school system in America. We spend the most on Schooling in the world and aren't even in second place for literacy. This is a problem rooted at the core of society. It might sound insane and delusional but schools are supposed to teach the newer generations important skills and work ethic. If that doesn't stick society collapses.
Wow I'm fuming I actually would have passed school with Flying Colors if that would have been my situation. All those years wasted on stuff I had to teach myself anyways. And now I have to waste more years to get a piece of paper for the equivalent. That's just a kick in the nuts to say the least.
In my school I am simply not given homework, there’s no laws against it or anything, the professors just don’t care enough or aren’t paid enough to care
I have a biology teacher that never gives homework. He just gives us papers so we can learn the subject( that isn't even that long) then after a week we have a quizz, but not a boring, stressful multi answer quizz, he just asks us questions from the things we did last time, and it works. I can remember more information from that class than all the rest of my classes combined. That man is a saint!

I just pulled 3 all-nighters finishing up the group assignment and I can tell most of the members in my group didn’t learn SHIT Our teacher just totally gave us her share of work and made us teach other students who are like toddlers by this assignment.
Homework’s original intention wasn’t that bad, it’s when the teachers became lazy and books mass produced, homework became the definition of what causes suicide
WHOA DON'T, do that. Come on, you can cope with it in a good way with a good mindset and not magnify the problems. Be a passionate person about what you do.
I would always cry in PreCal class, he never assigned homework but was so shit at explaining I would go insane questioning why i just couldnt understand. FUCK YOU MR. NEWBERRY
this made me think of something. when school ends, you aren't happy that you dont have to go to school for a while, your happy you have a few weeks without homework
As someone who was doing an essay homework just about some minutes ago and reviewing the physics content taught at school later, i can confirm, studying or reviewing a matter for some minutes is better than doing homework to learn something, it's only you memorizing something that you already saw and even noticing some details you didn't found out
My teacher did something similar and she taught AP calc and I actually really learned in that class, we did notes and studying at home and doing the work in class, her pure care for her students and style of teacher really helped us and got her our teacher of the state but recently she got TEACHER OF THE NATION LIKE THE G THAT SHE IS, much love to her
as a burned out high school student i agree with every point brought up in this video. homework has had a SEVERE negative impact on my mental state and i cant even do any of it because i get like 5 assignments a day its absolute hell.
"Can we appreciate how hard he works to provide us these videos" - 🤖 "This guy can talk about anything and make it entertaining" - 🤖 "This guy is so relatable" - 🤖
Real talk, in college I hated taking notes during class, so for 4 and a half years, whenever I had free time I would always make my own notes ahead of time. Whenever I was too tired to make notes I'd just opt to read; basically I was always trying to literally stay ahead of the topic just so I could have the luxury to just sit and listen with a neck pillow on my head leaning on the wall or the table every time class starts; even if I fell asleep I practically didn't miss anything. But the biggest bitch of a foil to this perfect system, was every time I had to do pre-written lab write-ups. In the first and 2nd years I had like multiple subjects to outrun so just a single lab report combined with any extra take-home work would just set me back to square one and I hated that so much

We actually have this in Russia(or at least in my school) But its only for like 1st-4th graders I dunno if its still here, because i was in 4th grade 7 years ago
I loved my math's teacher for this, she never gave us homework. She would teach us something, gave us some exercises and that was it, really appreciated that woman.
The amount of painful laughter i had when he was talking about grades going down from an A to an F minus when you missed one assignment was plentiful💀😢😢
THANK YOU! I've never been able to articulate this well, but you said what I've been thinking for a long time, what we've all probably been thinking for a long time. I'm not in school anymore, but I still get pissed off at the fact that homework is still prevalent and as invasive as it is in America.
Remember guys, don't blame the creator of homework, he only used it as a punishment against failing and misbehaving students, not forced them to do it every day. I wish it stayed that way, We're all in pain because of it
Blame Horace Mann and who thought it was a good idea to change how it’s handed out (it does sound like it could’ve been somewhat of a good thing in theory, but in practice…) and ESPECIALLY blame the dumbasses who keep enforcing it even after what it’s done.
Finally I left High School and now started doing what I realy wanted to do (I'm studying Visual Arts at college it's one of my big dreams) but going through the whole hell of assignments and bad grades gave me some traumatic memories that I'll never forget in my life. I wish the educational system was different from what it is now (I mean here in Brazil they tried but failed successfully with this task) but to anyone who's going into this hell: all I can say is good luck and don't be affraid of cheating in your homework it's better for your mental health trust me
At my school (in The Netherlands), homework was optional. And it was amazing. People were able to decide for themselves if they needed to study a specific topic some more or not, and if you already understood everything in class, you would just skip the homework. And yes, some people would just not do anything at all because they could, but they only needed a few bad grades for them to realise to actually do some of the homework.
Bro here in Egypt we get MINIMUM 12 pages of homework a class BUT EVEN AFTER ALL OF THAT WE STILL HAVE AFTER SCHOOL CLASSES AND THOSE GIVE MORE DAMN HOMEWORKKKKKKKK

The worst part of the schooling system in America is that parents drop mad bread for the kids to learn but most kids are forced to teach themselves since tenured teachers/professors don’t care bout much more than their paycheck
@@linkytgamer I didn't get bullshitted and it was elementary, you could be a mouthbreathing variance denying bureaucrat and pass elementary school, especially the first three grades.
I’ll be honest. There has not been a single Sunday these last three years where I haven’t had to do, say, 2-5 hours of homework. And, since I have anxiety, I usually base most of my day around doing all of that homework, including forcing myself to not sleep in that late so that I can start it early enough, and still have a few hours of time to myself before I’d usually go to bed. Not to mention this year (my freshman year of college) specifically, where I sometimes got assigned so much homework that I often stressed if I could get it done in the time, or even have the willpower to do it all when I was supposed to. Not sure how people at my school even had time to socialize, be in relationships, etc. I had to become a lot less socially interactive with people these last few years because of homework alone, and, now that my first year of college is over, I somehow feel guilty that I don’t have to worry about it anymore.
One time, i had all A's exept a C. All because of 1 missing assignment worth 4 points, even though in another class with the same points on 5 missing assignments and I got a B
My story about homework. I had a chest infection for three weeks and missed school. My math teacher told me to do a whole two weeks of homework I missed and the homework that was due the following day and only gave me a week to do it all. Luckily my friends helped me and managed to finish it all. I had to ask five people to help me. It was during the time when sending it via email didnt exist. 😂
Thing is over here in Britain our exam boards decided to add more topics to the tests even tho we've basically had 2 years of no school due to covid, so teachers are basically forced to use homework to teach us subjects weve had no time to learn, what a great time we live in
Damn that’s tuff, covid hit in the middle of my junior year (basically 2 years from graduating high school in America) and I basically did nothing for two years and graduated lol
I am so glad Degenerocity posted today. His videos makes my day better. I was literally doing homework some seconds ago. The new school I am now, has like 5 tests a week, and I now have 5 homework for next week. I JUST HAD 9 BIGGEST EXAMS LAST WEEK AND THIS IS MY PAY OFF. Fun fact: did you know, nose bleed is sometimes cause because of stress? Yeah my nose bleed one night and couldn't stop. The only good thing about this school is that everyone is super nice at least. I have never felt more respected in my life at school. I mean, I know doing homework and studying is good but...this is a new lever of crazyness. Edit: also, Degenerocity became a history teacher or something.
They're unforgiving when you're sick too. I was sick last week and now I have to get a shit ton of work done by the end of this week and if I am at all late I'll fail this class.
For some reason I felt like the worst time doing homework was the grades getting into middle school and middle school itself, the backpack was so heavy and full of books I remember getting back pain. High school had homework but it felt like it leveled out but with some late night studies. When I went to University I was so happy I can assign classes in different days and time. Yes it was a lot of work but I loved the fact that I can wake up for 8AM class in one day but the other days are afternoon or night classes so I had time to rest and recover. The best part is when I only have one class for a day or one class schedule I made had no classes on Friday so it felt like I had 3 day weekends, and I was a full time student. Plus remote classes during the pandemic was even better, I didn't have to worry about commute and I just open my laptop and attend class.
Goin through this never ending hell right now. Prayers to you all
Right back at you soldier! 🫡
you'll get through it brother. may god give you the strength

I love the way how schools blame everything for peoples mental health but they don't take the responsibility for it until:
A) someone sues
B) the kid commits suicide
C) the teacher is caught doing devious things
D) 10.9 million other things are bought up as to why the education system sucks and is failing
E) all of the above in/ out of that order
LMAAAAO
i love how the american education system pushes every single student towards either a meaningless office job or suicide! can't get enough!
And then they have the audacity to say "wE cARe aBoUt YoUr meNtAL hEaLtH anD wElLBEIng"

And yes, some people would just not do anything at all because they could, but they only needed a few bad grades for them to realise to actually do some of the homework.
