Spear Fisherman Dragged by Goliath Grouper

- While spearfishing on a wreck site in the northern Gulf of Mexico Grayson Shepard goes for a ride behind a large Goliath Grouper.
Shepard had several encounters (during this one dive) with Goliath grouper that wanted his fresh kills. This video show three of those encounters. In one instance the giant grouper grabs Shepard's fish and spear and drags him across the reef.
Here is Grayson's description of the encounter:
"In the first scene, I shot a snapper and was pulling it towards me when a goliath came out of hiding and tried to eat it. Had I been retrieving the fish any slower he would have been successful. In the second scene, I shot a snapper and as I approached it, a Goliath attacked and ate it while I held the end of the spear in my hand. I get dragged a short distance and this action bends my $50 spear so badly it will no longer load into my speargun. The third scene is a brawl with several Goliaths fighting for my speared fish. One of them swallows it and breaks the line connecting my spearshaft to the gun. I lost that $50 spearshaft. Immediately after the line breaks, an unseen Goliath that had sneaked up behind me eats a fish that was on my stringer and took off with it with me in tow. Fortunately I had a grip on my spearband and was able to hang on until he let go. "

As a Floridian, I have enormous love for this video, and would like to clarify a few things for maximum appreciation of this wonderful, angry man:
• The big fish are Goliath Grouper, and they’re critically endangered. It’s against the law to hurt them, and in Florida you can even go to jail over it. They’re actually a beloved species.
• Even if it was legal, you’re not going to kill a Goliath Grouper with a single speargun. You’d have to be the Annie Oakley of the seven seas to hit it exactly in its (very small) brain, and then you’d be tethered to a brain dead fish the size and weight of a SmartCar.
• But it would be way worse to be dragged by a live one, which is what happens in the second and third clips. The grouper is pulling him down into that wreckage by the spear tether, and that would really fuck him and his equipment up. That’s Drown City USA down there. So he catches onto it and has to fight the grouper for the spear back, and the grouper is so strong that the cable (and/or barnacles) breaks his skin and he starts bleeding.
• Goliath Grouper don’t play games, and they out to make humans critically endangered

in Italy it's not legal to fish with scuba tanks , if coast guard find you they sequester all your equipment and speargun and you must pay a fine , a salty one. And i am agree , because it's not very sporty to have a similar advantage.

Freezorg No. A spear fisherman with a tank can sit there as long as he likes and kill only the largest fish around, the same large fish that are hard to catch any other way and which also create the largest number of new fish during spawning.
