I went to Salt Lake City for a week to film episodes - I am fascinated with Salt Lake City and the culture there, and was excited to meet up with a gay escort there to hear about what life is like for a gay sex worker there.

SO SO TRUE! My mom almost became a villain in my scenario as an openly gay POZ man. After a very hateful letter from her (just after coming out officially to her and told her I was HIV POZ) I was shocked and of course being a Capricorn and having an Irish temper wrote her a hateful letter back but a friend, who is a writer, asked to borrow it for the day. She came back with TWO letters, mine and a rewrite. IT was perfect and sounded like something I would have written without all the anger. Sent that to her and we are good friends today but it could have gone horribly wrong. I'm thankful for my friend Laurel rewriting the letter and thankful my mom realized that she could have lost her only son because of her "Christian values" .....

This interview made me sad. I had a couple good friends get into escorting and nothing good came out of it. They both felt useless and hollow, and the one committed suicide a couple years ago. The one who survived I lost touch with. Drugs took over and I couldn't relate to him as a friend or even a person anymore. His whole life was a lie. I hope Patch finds clarity. It's not always about the money, don't try to live as your wealthier friends, there's nothing to prove there. Self worth and self respect is what's most important. Surrounding yourself around positive role models who care about you as a person inside and out is the best. I wish you both well.

Don't despair, Patch. I didn't even come out till I was 36. My life started anew then. Keep pushing forward. Travel is an important part of life. Until you can go afar, travel within your area. Explore nearby places you've never been. As time goes on, you'll venture out further and further. Don't give up or quit trying. I know your feelings for your mother. You're a good person to want to help her. But her life is her's. You need to focus on yourself and your life. If you win the lottery, yeah, help your mom. But right now, if you're not healthy, you can't make others healthy. You are the most important person in your life right now. Look for the book, Finding the Boyfriend Within. I feel so much what patch was talking about in terms of his family. I'm not gay but I watch this because I want to get a view, an understanding, an appreciation of others who have different lives and see the world differently. Perspective is so important and we need to be able to see things from someone who understands the world differently. My heart went to and still goes out to Patch. I would hug him if I could. I know what you are going through, I've been there myself; the exact environment I grew up in. Men today in our world are desperately in need of platonic touch. Friends that they can hug and not necessarily be sexual. The reason why these men want to talk to you is because they crave and need intimacy. They have sacrificed the whole identity of manhood which includes being able to feel, to accept those feelings without judgment and to constructively do something with them. Too many men have been told that they have to be stoic and that they have to cut that part off of themselves. We have a culture of what is means to be a man that is not even close to what being a real man actually is.

Patch is so warm and amazing! I could relate, with toxic parents and why I left CA at 21! He is gorgeous and obviously very talented. The best part about him, is that is so real and honest. What you see is what you get! That is so fucking refreshing! He seemed like a genuine person from a tough situation!
I loved being a dad to my guys that are 36 and 38, and I can't having a warm caring dad either, mine only cared about himself and his parents, not even his family. So I get not communicating with him and not seeing him. I was able to go to college for a year in Seattle and never went back! When my dad died almost 20 yrs ago, my 1st thought was "good" now I don't have to wish him happy fathers day or birthday, when I don't mean it!
I have cried more about my red tabby cat Puddy, that had a stroke in 18. He was my best buddy and always spent a minimum of 1/2 when I got home sitting on me or laying on me!
I was married for 15 years Patch and came out at 41. It was very rough getting to hear. It was like being a high schooler at 41! Yuk! lol. It cost me dearly to get here but I am finally real at 69, but don't look it thank god! lol I love being gay, it is who I am!
I wish Patch was local, I would want to have coffee with him and talk!
Don't give up! You had to save yourself and heal and get strong enough, before you can safe your mother or anyone else.
Thank you for sharing and being so open. I would think guys, or dads like me would line up for a sweet guy like you!
    Good job

Really a sincere interview. Well done Matt. Your channel is always so on point and informative. Patch is so right it’s not about sex at all- mostly it’s just about the company, someone to connect to and just “not feel alone” for an hour or three. I’m in my 50s and have found such value in escorting services. If you are lucky to make a connection with an special escort it just so rewarding. I feel they provide such an essential service of companionship and connection- it really soul work, not “sex work” and indulging in this type of service has literally saved me so many times over the years from going down that all to familiar “rabbit hole” of dark depression and “closing the life book” So we’ll done Patch for acknowledging this very selfless service to other humans - all the very best for your future, I will assisted where I can through your linked pages. Wow a lot of ppl, gay men more specifically, are finding themselves lonely and without friends. I’m one of them. I mean I knew when I got older life would slow down but damn. Covid and social media certainly play a big part in this life of solitaire, but when are we ever going to be able to trust again? Hell, I’m looking for friendships never mind a intimate relationship. I just believe we can’t be afraid of being hurt. All relationships are a risk. One thing I’ve prided myself on is being a true and loyal friend. Most of mine are in relationships and/or are living away from me that we’ve grown apart. Well, I wish this young man lots of joy and success. At the beginning it was one interview, and then it became another and started getting real. Then it just ended. It made me think about how many of us are putting on a show. We need to feel connection to others, yet when we have to pay for it we can become so disillusioned and warped both mentally and emotionally, even physically.
I have credit cards and put almost everything on them; I spend my points on reducing my travel costs. There’s even websites where you can find people that post about their amazing deals.
I’ve always been interested in living for less and I’d never do OF because it’s a soul crusher.
I feel so much heartache here and wish I could be of better help, but Patch I think you may not want some of the words of advice I’d like to give. So, I’ll leave it at that and give you a hug across the miles from one Primary kid to another. You are important and you are loved. You’re a beautiful human being. I hope all of the best things in life for you.

I enjoyed listening to Patch and only offer him one small piece of advice ... When he said that one of the reasons he is not with anyone right now is because all the guys he's interested in are not interested back and probably just wants someone to take a chance on him to prove him right ... BUT, is he doing the same thing to guys who are interested in him but for whatever reason he is not.
Sometimes we need to realize that to break that cycle is that though we are good people deep down, we are only focused on the ones we are interested in & ignore or dismiss the ones that we say we are not.
When I realized I had been doing that the vast majority of my adult gay life (roughly around my 40th birthday & took off my "gay blinders" as I called them), I made a pact with myself that instead of trying to find that one guy who "checked off all those boxes" start pursuing anyone that piqued my interest. Now, I will admit, I have not found "the one" & the longest in the past 12 years that I have been with someone has been roughly 7 months, I have found some of the the best friends (some I have regular sex with to this day) that if I kept doing what I had been doing up until then, I never would have taken that chance.
Once you acknowledge and accept that you are your own "hurdle," own up to your past and fully like AND love yourself for everything you are (FUCK what others think about you), can you let that chains that hold you back, break away and start enjoying your life. I wish Patch all the joy and happiness that life brings him PLUS I 100% agree with Matt, he is a catch.
PS - not all of us gay men will "reject" you because you are not "rich." Money doesn't solve your problems, it only sometimes makes life easier to forget those problems.

Patch, I’ve watched hundreds of interviews and stories about religious homophobia and yours related to me so much. I feel you. I thought life would look so different. I wanna change too. I’ve always wanted to go to Greece (all Mediterranean countries) and fall in love and maybe even live abroad or serve in the peace corps or teach English abroad but I let my inner issues derail those dreams. So much regret. Much love. ❤

I want to give him a big hug. I grew up in the same religion and understand most of what he talked about. I'm so happy he found something to give him financial freedom and a way out of his depression. My heart will always go out to ex-Mormons. It is a lonesome journey but a worthwhile one.

Loved this video, I feel sad for him. He is tying happiness to success and money. What he needs is human connection. Hope he finds his happy soon.
