I thought I’d tell you, after being a weak player at my LGS when it comes to draft/prerelease events.. I played the Chaos Draft event for Summer of Magic and won! I thank you and your many videos I’ve watched for my grown out of just being an EDH player! Thanks Gommie! Luv ya work
Tough luck, great games tho against some fierce competition. It was a tough decision no doubt having the Chandra in the deck: late game upside vs. cutting land/more consistency.
game 1 23:43, i feel like its crazy he didn't attack into "no blocks" "tapped out" board, not to mention, gomlet has a flyer on board, so a blocker is just not that useful. just deal 6, gain 6 no?. 12 life point difference. sure he takes 8 on the back swing but hes gaining 6, and dealing 6 a turn, he wins that race very fast. this just seems like a bad play to me for such a high level event. i was expecting gomlet to say something about it, but he had no reaction to it. am i missing something here? 27:17 i think i would have just played boon satyr as an aura here. (either on the unblocked card for lethal, and let the oze trade, or put it on oze to play slow and safe) but i guess this play keeps your creatures alive while also going for lethal so its a reasonable play. but also a risk of a minor blow out too (yeah he can regenerate it, but losing 2 counters is still a lose. and you would still lose the pump spell too, cuz if oze dies, it be out of combat at that point). so yeah, maybe a bit unnecessarily risky? what do yall think? ------- i might had said this in a prior video comment section but i think the bigger issue with protection, why wotc doesn't really print creatures with that ability anymore (for the most part), is cus its just too flip flopy in its power level, often its only protection from a color or two. if you're facing that color, its too powerful, if your not, its too weak. its just hard to find good a middle ground with it. it being unintuitive is also a downside
23:43 they know Gomlet has the Dryad in hand: that's 11 on the backswing, Gomlet is ahead on life even after the swing and has a 2 life buffer on board, I don't think it's insane not to attack there. They go up to 15, drop to 2 (or 6 if they chump), go back up to 8 (or 12 if they chump), die if Gomlet has played any creature: that's not a race they want to run if they don't have much in hand. And at any point Gomlet can hold back two big guys and trade.
@@mrknarf4438 i think your board math might be a bit off (gom goes to 16, op goes to 15, next turn, op goes to 5 or 4, no blocks. then gom goes to 10, op goes to 10 or 11. ect ect), but after looking at it again, yeah its a close race that op starts to lose after a few turns. so sure, i suppose leaving back blocks is fine. i just feel like with a flyer on board that can get suited up with bestow, and then monstrous, you need to be a little optimistic about racing on the ground. so still seems like a bad play to me, but its not that bad.
@@mcbescheiden725 kind of, but its more like he lost to the 4/4 enchantment removal, plus the oze, plus the bloodrush card. etc etc. (gomlets deck was just really good) mostly it was the enchantment removal. if not for that, it would have been a tough game. if he took the dragon storm, and gomlet didnt rip the enchantment removal, and he played a litte better, yeah he might have had a good chance of winning. but most if the time, i would think the 7 mana 8/8 flyer with a mini one sided wrath, is almost impossible to beat for a midrange deck. you basically need to for sure know your gonna beat down fast and hard. so yeah, dont let results cloud your judgment. it was a reasonable play. taking the 5 mana dragon is fine too. basically it just comes down to "how fast do you think you can win" if you think you can most likely win before they get to 7mana (thats a big "IF"), take the dragon storm, if not, you need to take the dragon lord. its just way harder to beat.
