always well prepared great content on this channel. I have to believe there's a woman or two behind tge scenes keeping order. Michelle and gram and then girlfriend and wives if all . Nice work by all
Tip for Hunter on the battery mount. The mount should go across the other way on the battery so it can NEVER touch both post in an emergency the battery moves at all. ✌️
i was lucky enough in life to have 2 close friends that were about 8 years older than me, but we were all garage gear-heads, and what they taught me was priceless. we hung out in the garage, drank beer, told stories, made fun, laughed, and had a good time every time. they are both gone now,, but every time i watch paul he reminds me of them so much. i miss them both more than words can describe, but this channel is as close to home as it gets for me. thank you paul, michele, hunter, lolly, and family for bringing some good memories back to me every time i watch your videos,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it helps more than you can imagine at times,,,,god bless you,,,,,,,,,,,
My sister had a VW bug. My Dad was working on it. and said it would go back together faster if he could cuss in German. We knew he could cuss in German, because he was a POW from May 10, 1944 until the end of the war. We did end up making a sand rail out of it years later.
@@jameslovitt994 I dearly hope you're not talking about my Dad. He spent almost a year in a Luftstalag. And it was nothing like Hogan"s Hero's in any way shape or form.
Paul and Michelle, I enjoy watching your channel so much. Those boys crack me up while they are working. It's like watching my boys while they are in the shop working on their stuff. Hunter, you should build the battery hold down the other way across the battery, the way you have it, if it moves at all, it's going to arc out on those terminals, if you go the other way it's impossible to short it out.
Nice job Paul and crew , I really think you guy's are gonna have a lot of fun at Glamis. I hope you guy's can get us some great video of it. Thanks for the video guy's can't wait for the next one.

This video brings back a lot of memoriesWhen I was about 17, we went to a hillclimb in Kamloops where we saw a vw dunebuggy similar to the sandrail. We had a VW. The body came off. We drove it around like that for a while and then we scavenged most pieces of metal we could find to build a roll cage. We shortened the frame by 18" by cutting the tunnel and welding it together with an old welder. when we got it running we used to drive it in the local fields and back trails. Bits and pieces would come off because my welding skills were suspect. We managed to kill the engine several times. The police used to wait at the corner to our road, however they never caught us because we could go through the back way. It was a great way to learn how to cobble parts together and work on cars.
It was awesome to see Hunter working on stuff in the shop. That’s how you learn this kind of stuff. You just have to do it and you gradually get more confident and learn along the way. Paul is about the best teacher you could have too
Hey Paul! Rails are looking great. One thing, you need to do is flip your paddle tires around. Cups face forward. Unless you don't have the power to turn em. Have fun!
When I lived in Denver I bought a 68 Volkswagen with an auto-stick and a blown engine. I was going to make it into a Baja Bug but the body was so nice so I just fixed it up. A roommate and I pulled the engine in the apartment parking lot and carried it up to the third floor. I tore it down on the balcony and reassembled it in the kitchen. Then back down the stairs and into the bug. It went from 1500 to a 1600.

A 1900 is a pretty hot bug motor! I had a 1972' Beetle with a 1835cc motor dual spring valves and a EMPI dual tip exhaust, hot ignition, and dual carbs, that was a 'Fire Breather"! It could smoke a Mitsubishi eclipse and some other cars at the lights!
27:11 Paul waiting for oil to pour from one of the hoses caused me to flashback to my days of watching the 3 Stooges shows! Those of you who can't remember Ike as president will need to search for the show. Totally enjoying the sand rail builds.

Don't use reverse iv u get stuck to try and get out it'll round off the small gear that I believe is a softer medal than rest don't ask how I know it'll cause it to pop out of reverse and make a horrible sound
Hey, Hunter, it looks like you selected some thick enough strapping for the battery hold down. The whole rail could be demolished and the battery would still be attached. You must have added at least 5 pounds to the overall weight.😊
As a VW enthusiast with a Baja bug and a sand rail I would love some more info on the fuel injection system on Paul’s Rig. I realize you are in a hurry so maybe when things settle down you can run through the specs and share the info on the manifold and Holley system. Curious with no manifold heat how well that sniper system works. Looking forward to the Glamis videos!
Don't forget to put antifreeze in the radiator before you go to Glamis. I always used to run Oberg oil filters on all of my VWs. They are reusable screen type oil filters, and they act like an oil cooler, too. After new parts went into the case. the Oberg filter would always trap the loose metal. It is always a good idea to blueprint the oil pump with a piece of thick glass and some fine emery paper.

Tip for Hunter on the battery mount. The mount should go across the other way on the battery so it can NEVER touch both post in an emergency the battery moves at all. ✌️
True, but since it is already oriented the way it is he could cover it in a piece of bicycle innertube to make it a bit safer.
That's good advise. Probably the issue was the battery being so close to the fuel tank. You really don't want the battery strap puncturing that.
We'll see how close the cable clamps come to that bar.
Or use a nylon strap. Like the kind on a marine battery box
I would have just used a ratchet strap and be done with it.

Don't use reverse iv u get stuck to try and get out it'll round off the small gear that I believe is a softer medal than rest don't ask how I know it'll cause it to pop out of reverse and make a horrible sound
Paul, after you get 1 or 2 turbos on it, put a set of slicks on it and take it to the drag strip!
Don’t forget the throttle pedal on top of steering and wiring. Those things look like a ton of fun. I can’t wait to see the episode in Glamis!
Morning fabrats thanks for the video
Hey, Hunter, it looks like you selected some thick enough strapping for the battery hold down. The whole rail could be demolished and the battery would still be attached. You must have added at least 5 pounds to the overall weight.😊
I hope you guys had a great time. It looks like you will have an awesome adventure. Looking forward to the videos.
SUPRISED TO SEE YOU RUNNIN A FRAM FILTER, I RAN'EM MYSELF TILL I WAS TOLD TO CUT ONE INTO, CARDBOARD, BUT SHE SOUNDS GOOD, LOVE THE CHANNEL, GOOD LUCK
Eh, better than nothing. These air cooled VW's didn't have oil filters originally, just a mesh screen in the bottom for the oil pickup.
Hunter-shop class 101.✅
Shops looking really nice!! Very organized 👌
We used to use old 6v starters. They crank crazy fast and last just as long as a 12v . They don't crank long enough to burn up.😊
Glad they are coming together 💯👍
