The only difference is the lab-grown diamond can be mass-produced and be sold at a cheaper price while the natural diamond has purposely lowered the supply just to make it look rare no thanks to Debeer's monopoly.

Diamonds are a scam. If it wasn't for DeBeers monopoly, you would be paying less than a thousand a carat for earth mined (Canada and Russia mines are finding hundreds of carats per day), and lab grown would be $200 a carat. Moisannite sparkles more, is almost as hard and is flawless. A beautiful one carat Moisannite ring in real 14k gold can be had for under $500., and if you put it together yourself under $300.

On an atomic level they are the same. The process by which one is created is neither here nor there. Need I remind you that they are rocks? Saying it’s more valuable because it came out of the earth and is, usually, lesser quality is the absolute definition of self serving stupidity. If someone lies to you about the origin of an “ancient” vase, you are paying a lot more money than you would have otherwise. Thus, it is an extrinsic value. That is not different from being told that a diamond formed naturally vs being made in a lab. Someone who values the stone just for being natural would similarly pay more for a natural stone as you would pay more for an ancient vase.
Just as your valuation differs from mine, our valuations differs from valuations of other people. People place different prices on intrinsic values as well. So, this isn't surprising. But, intrinsic values seem easier for others to relate to.

She had no clue it was even an option and was remorseful when she thought I would think a natural diamond is the only option. She did some more investigating on them and agreed that doing anything else is financially irresponsible. The ring has become a social construct and pressure to show social status. I am certain she is the woman I described above and is someone I can commit my life to. Any signs of hesitation would’ve been against her character and I would likely be reconsidering her motives. Yes, a much better investment! Being as I don't think the 'average' everyday person could afford a diamond engagement ring of a large enough size and good enough quality for it to really be an investment that will pay off in the future, especially when you consider the mark-up on gold and diamonds- if you paid retail for a diamond ring, you already lost money as soon as you walked out of the store. I'm nor divorced, but my family went through quite a rough time a few years back and I sold my natural platinum and diamond engagement/wedding rings. I worked in the jewellery business in NYC for several years, not specifically with diamonds though I did sell some so I had to have some knowledge of the product... Even with a little behind the scenes knowledge, I still could only sell them for a third of the retail price- and I went to several dealers.
Funny thing is, I hated those rings. I don't like traditional jewellery, I think diamonds are fine as accent stones. But, IMHO, Mother Earth produces far more beautiful stones than diamonds, diamonds are not rare (though there are rare diamonds), the mark up is ridiculous when considering diamonds as investments, and if your love eternal rests on the size and stone in the ring on your finger, I'd say reconsider if it'ss really love after all.

So if dug up diamond costs people lives it is worth much and if PREVENTS human lives to be found then it is worth 1000's of dollars.... man ... that is a killer mentality... I would prefer live saving diamond OVER life costing diamond - blood diamonds - 1000's times over.... What many don't know is that natural white Sapphires are nearly as hard as Diamonds... so I would rather have a natural white sapphire than a lab-grown diamond. I also have had a necklace custom made for myself with an 11 carat natural White Zircon from Cambodia and it is just superb... I have an antique brooch with white sapphires and when I look at it through a magnifying glass it is just as beautiful as my high grade diamond ring...

White sapphire has no fire. It is only comparable to a poorly cut diamond. It is still a good stone; I’m just saying that diamond is still better for some people. But, if someone likes the fire, moissanite has even more fire than a diamond. Diamonds have higher contrast than a moissanite, though. If diamond was the same price as moissanite, it would be an interesting option.

I think it would be great to have a lab grown diamond if one is not expecting to sell it for profit or even less than half for what they paid for it! Lab grown diamonds are expected to keep decreasing in value, while many mined diamonds will hold their value. Colored diamonds, especially blue and pink, will increase in value. I think it's a great idea to have both. Perhaps buy colorless lab grown and colored natural/mined.

The 'problem' will arise from resale if and when there is no marking on the jewel. A universal standard would be very helpful and is overdue. There is a major risk of loss of trust in which
