Deniece Williams has one of the most spectacular voices in the business. So many hits like Let's Hear It For The Boy, Silly, Too Much Too Little Too Late(duet w/ Johnny Mathis), Theme song from Family Ties, What Two Can Do, Black Butterfly, I'm So Proud and many more. True that she inspired Mariah Carey. She also can get up there and hit those whistle notes
"Free" by Deniece Williams is a song so beautiful that it got played often on the radio. In 1976 you REALLY had to have outstanding talent to get played on the air. Recently, I was in San Diego listening to 102.5 Fusion Tijuana. That radio station plays a lot of beautiful music. That's the first time I heard "Free" by Marcus Miller featuring Corinne Bailey Rae and David Sanborn. Their collaboration on that song is a beautiful work of art.
Your listening again to an era you sadly missed when all the most beautiful original music was produced , so many many lovely songs this being one of the best of them, her voice and the whole production is just amazing!!!!
This song was co written by Susaye Greene, a member of Stevie Wonder's background singer group Wonderlove. Susaye would join The Supremes in 1976 as their last official member before the group ended. If you want to check out Susaye's vocals, check out The Supremes' songs High Energy or Come Into My Life, or the high parts Susaye sings on We Should be Closer Together.
Chante Moore did an amazing version of this song on her Love Supreme album from 1994. It was a medley, with The Commodores' Sail on, completing the track. It is a truely wonderful song, from an artist who's incredible talents were ignored in the U.S by most radio stations.
Yup Agreed, Chanté is 1 of the most Underrated and Hardly Mentioned Vocalists. Her Cover of Free/Sail On , Is Truly that Spectacular. Actually Does this original version Justice.
Niecey Williams has one if the most beautiful voices. She started as a backup for Stevie Wonder. The two albums Thom.Bell produced for her are the best!.
I love this song! I love DW’s voice, those high notes and the lower notes are warm. She has has so many gems out there. I also love, “Its Going to take a miracle”💛
She just had a birthday June 3rd(71 years old). She still out there with singing, starting in Sept 2021. Please React to 2 more of her hits "Silly" and "It's Gonna Take A Miracle" by Deniece Williams.
You Are Correct Mariah Carey Mentioned she use to Listen to Denise and Minnie Ripperton and Imitate her Sound and we're her Idols..She mentioned this on BET back in the Early 90s It Available on UA-cam I Think it's BETSoul with Donnie Simpson or a Female Host..Back when she was just starting out.
Picture it: Chicago, 1976. Two dumb clucks from the sticks half a continent away from each other, white guys, fall in love over a Sunday tea dance. (I fell in love with his eyes, gosh only knows what he saw in me.) We spend the next few months writing letters back-and-forth and decide to move in to the big city to live together. We bought this album and played it over and over.
WOW* I'm late to my own party. ..Although I'm looking casket sharp in my new Zoot Suit n Gattors ...I would like to raise my glass and make a toast to our lovely host, Empress... Thank You:: Dolce Baby..Sincerely Solut'e ...Poppie*
You know! why the old school song sounds so good back in early days, especially back in the 60" 70" 80" and maybe the mid 90s!!.. that? because, they had alot of good backup Vocals backgrounds singer in groups..nowadays people don't have that sounds of vocals anymore like Church choirs people..people who was singer they come from churches choirs.. the media don't tell young black people that part of history story..when people was singing back in those days most of the black men and black women come from churches choirs...they don't want you know that part of the history; but nowadays the people in black churches don't do that anymore it against the Christian religion..black churches choirs singer are the real 👍true r&b singer; because everyone who sing are ancestors from the black churches, because that where it all started our black history...and that's a true fact!!....✌
And YOU have a good voice beautiful woman...maybe u shouldfo something with it! My sister had tbe voice of Karen Capenter and didnt do much with it...and then she died young...she didnt have the confidence but I can tell u do!
That bass line! Her voice! The melody! One of my favorite all time grooves

The 70s & 80s gave us a lot of Soul Sirens…and there was NO Autotune! This song was also produced by the great Maurice White of Earth, Wind, & Fire.
💯💯💯
Fantastic!
Soul Sirens.....I love that!!!!
I adored this song when I was a kid. This and Billy Paul's 'Me and Mrs Jones'. Slow dance magic
Slow dancing was at the very top of the things to do at the club.
Always loved this song. Glad you liked it.✌
