CORRECTIONS: The specimen I referenced the first time is not the AMNH specimen, it's the holotype ( CM 9380). Dakotaraptor might not be a valid genus as most of it is chimeric, there are some large dromaeosaur-like bones in the "specimen" and a large dromaeosaur probably existed in hell creek but it might not be dakotaraptor specifically. The feet are definitely too small, which was just a mistake and I didn't catch it in time. I should have probably used the larger facial scales along the entire front of the skull instead of just the lips, this is because of all the face biting that rexes did. Finally, the nostrils are a bit too high and should be lower. Oh yeah, and the feet are too small.
Why would Dakotaraptor be invalid if it was a chimera? There's only a few bones that might belong to another animal. Even without the turtle bones, there's still enough material for it to be valid.
@@orionmclaughlin5680 If too many of the diagnostic bones are from other animals then it’s not valid, the whole thing is up in the sir from what I can see.
@@ichthyovenator3351 but I thought what there were only like one or two turtle bones. There's no way a turtle could have a dromaeosaur skull or arms with quill knobs.
I love how animals across the board have always been so immensely varied among individuals that even just looking at the skeleton of a likely solitary species like T. rex, you can spot numerous differences between individuals. Not only is this interesting but it makes reconstructions more lenient since unless you are reconstructing a specific individual it means you don't need to be as precise with proportions.
Always impressed with your work with pencils, looks so gorgeous! And for me this TRex’s design (and explanation about the mating season and the colouring itself, pls make more of this) is pretty!!
Absolutely LOVE the colors (very interesting and cool reference to blue jays) and the way you were able to depict the differing skin patterns/textures and scarring… An epic reconstruction overall! Well done!!
I personally love your prior T. rex but your redesgin is absolutely better though. And I wish you have a great day, you're amazing artist if I haven't already said it
Phenomenal! I aspire to be as good as that, and I'm definitely I'm getting way better than last year! Also nice to hear the Walking with Monster track remixed, my personal favorite of the walking with series.
Suggestion on how to do perspective without looking weird: Draw the skeleton or concept art of your character from all axes and then draw between the axes, it helps a lot.
Your work really brings me joy, it reminds me of a time where I'd use nothing but pencils for all of my work and seeing your videos remind of how fun it is to blend colours together. Sadly I don't use traditional art much as I'm arthritic (and probably untreated carpal tunnel lmao), but I still feel the same joy again when I see your process 😊 Your use of prussian blues is amazing and you're clearly so skilled. ❤ Keep up the good work on both your art and your videos! ❤❤
I really didn't notice anything wrong with the old one mainly because it's not a dinosaur I enjoy the most I can have my own favorite dinosaur but either way I like the old and new Rex.
Hi I’m new to the channel and iv been inspired by your art! So I thought could you make a toutorial for beginners? I just love the accurate design! And the shading and details!
I’ve gotten a bunch of requests for a tutorial and honestly it’s a good idea! Just don’t know when I’d do it with all the other stuff I’ve been working on
I though only part of the holotype was chimeric with a turtle. I’m pretty sure some of the bones are from a large dromaeosaur. But ig it might not be dakotaraptor
Honestly the feet are what i struggle with in dinosaurs too.. i don't know why but the legs and feet are just impossible for me to draw, meanwhile i have a super detailed and accurate head on top... Its so incongruent
Actually T.rex was bulky and it was confirmed T.rex and other theropods had lips so your previous design for T.rex was pretty accurate so you did all details very accurate
Um.. I know that alligators have scales that look like tarsal scutes, so it might be an ancestral trait of archosaurs but don't quote me, but if this is correct it means that depicting the scales on dinosaur feet would look accurate even if they did not derive from feathers.
T'rex the ultimate survivor is my childhood man also amazing drawing of the T'rex awsome also if you really hate the T'rex from valley of the T'rex then why don't you redisign iti mean i already did it so can you do it please 🙏? Will.
Request / suggestion : please draw G.Coralini S.Agyptacus and T.Rsx on a couch watching prehistoric planet 2 (I just want to see you draw something silly)
How do you color over the detail and still make it pop? Just wondering because I’m also reconstructing a tyrannosaurus and I want the detail to pop when I color it. 😅
@ichthyovenator3351 that's fine we all do that sometimes to me it happens wirh the head. But I have the opposite problem where I make it too big. On humans at least.
Yeah, if tyrannosaurus had lips, and even though I am done with a debate on lip vs lipless at least put teeth sticking out like we saw in prehistoric planet
Drawing is good, but arms still a tiny bit short. Remember, arms are 2/3s the skull length. And the legs are kinda wrong. Unlike all other large theropod dinosaurs, t-rex had shorter thigh bones than tibia. Thigh bone is bone above the knee, tibia is the bone below the knee. Then the foot below the tibia is almost the same length. Remember, t-rex only walked on thier toes, not the whole foot.
I don’t agree with the dinosauroid theory. It feels narcissistic to think humanoid is the end/only body plan for a highly intelligent animal. I think it’s possible there was more than one species of rex but not enough evidence is there at the moment

The problem I had the most was I was trying to depict a somewhat gracile individual, that and I just didn’t like how it looked 😅
So cool I want to draw like that, having a hard time to understand how blending works with the simple color pencils.
It’s all about layering, the lighter you go the more layers you can add which’ll make smoother blends with more depth and structure.
