      Fun fact. They couldn’t afford to animate it! So that’s why it was hidden. The choice of angle where the posto bit into the placereas was all to save money and animation time.
      It was the most expensive documentary ever made at that point. They didn’t have knowledge, time, science and money on their side xD

    Next to Jurassic Park, Walking with Dinosaurs is undoubtedly one of the most famous & influential pieces of paleo media there is, regardless of all its inaccuracies, it’s a wonderful series that even 25 years after it aired is still a joy to watch.
    I’d love to see all the designs redone in accurate ways, & maybe even do this for the spin offs Big Al, Chased by Dinosaurs & Sea Monsters, plus it’s sequel Walking with Beasts, it’s prequel Walking with Monsters, & maybe after those also cover Prehistoric Park & Primeval as well.

    I am so inconceivably jealous of your colouring and shading skills mate, that alone earned you an immediate sub. Only critique I have is that something feels off about the foremost leg of the Coelophysis and Postosuchus, and the perspective on the Postosuchus' head doesn't seem to match the rest of it. Otherwise, phenomenal work, and I am truly in awe.
    Whilst I'm not as attached to WWD as many others, it was still a big part of my childhood, and I'd love to see the series continued. I'd also love to see you do this for Prehistoric Park (which actually was my childhood and the reason I love prehistory), since, IMO, it is one of the top 3-5 greatest bits of paleo-media ever created, and I mourn the fact that it can never be rebooted or continued at least twice a week.

    As for postosuchus, despite the trouble with rendering its neck muah!- chef's kiss!

    I have been thinking a bit about why I still think Walking With Dinosaurs is the best dinosaur documentary ever, and I was a bit disappointed with Prehistoric Planet, even though it definitely has the better and more accurate models, not to mention is more beautiful of course.
    When Walking With came out, it was something very remarkable and new: A documentary not about fossils or paleontology, but treating dinosaurs as living, breathing animals, and following their life - which is exactly a freedom you have when making a documentary about dinosaurs, but not when making one about, say, lions.
    This allowed the makers to add a dramatic touch, making each installation a little story with a moving arc, and allowed us to follow the dinosaurs through long stretches of time. The Walking With series is the only series still which really did this (counting Big Al as well). Prehistoric Planet did not quite use the format to its full potential, by instead making it like a more typical nature documentary. Granted, it is more realistic, but you are just not getting the same gripping story.

    • @ichthyovenator3351
      @ichthyovenator3351  4 місяці тому

      I personally liked php’s format. With the little vignettes it made the maastrichtian feel so much more than just hell creek. And so many more animals made the ecosystems diverse and more complete feeling. But more than that, it treated them as animals going thru their daily lives, without the dinosaur mysticism and I appreciated that.

    I swear, I feel like we are missing a fundamental piece in our understanding of Postosuchus. The way we currently assume how it stood and moved seems so...impossible. It would be incredibly front-heavy, with its tail not being nearly massive enough to counter-balance the weight and its center of mass so low to the ground that it could barely run. Even for an ambush predator, it just seems too immobile.

      It is very bizarre but I love that about it. The fact it’s proportions are so incredibly wonky but it’s still so front-heavy is puzzling. Maybe it had counterbalancing in a subtle way we haven’t considered yet? More bio mechanical studies need to be focused on this

    Tbf Postosuchus dying from a simple tusk wound was incredibly stupid especially considering what injuries archosaurs both past and present have survived. The book at least has it mauled by the other Postosuchus as well which makes its death more reasonable.

    • @ichthyovenator3351
      @ichthyovenator3351  5 місяців тому

      I don't think the actual wound was that bad of a way to die. I think that combined with dehydration it didn't get the time it needed to recover before being beset upon by those Coelophysis. But archosaurs are really tough so she probably would've made it.

      @@ichthyovenator3351The tusk wound was also in the thigh region, which kinda crippled it. It's a bit of a vital area, at least as shown in the documentary. So it was probably a combination of that, dehydration, infection from the wound, probably starvation because of being not able enough to hunt, and the increasing heat adding to all of that, slowly killed it. I think that could reasonably do it.
