If you can learn from him and DIY, awesome. I am an Autotech and his level of OCD approaches mine ! Got to have all the same fasteners in a straight line......the zip tie detail is off the charts ! Navy veteran (advanced electronics as a sonar technician) and retired Army (prime power production), I ordered a 2002 Z06, in 2002. I gutted the interior and installed sound deadener throughout. Installed an Alpine CDA-7998 head unit, CDT Audio tweeters and mids in a custom made enclosure inside both doors w/crossovers, JL Audio 6” behind seats where factory speakers were. Made a custom amp rack with JL Audio 600/4 channel amp and a JL Audio 1000/1 sub amp and a JL Audio 12W7 subwoofer in a custom made sub enclosure. All stinger wires and fuse blocks. Bosch relays. Did every bit of the work by myself. It all started when my wife won a car stereo as a door prize at the post Christmas party on Ft. Lewis. That is why I ended up on that very expensive road of an install. Because the stereo didn’t work! Greatest sounding system I have ever heard and I installed a shitload of them for friends. They trusted my abilities due to all the military education/years of practical electronics and electrical experience. Worked for Detroit Diesel-Allison as a field service technician on marine engines and generators (mega and super yachts to ferries and fishing/shrimping/crabbing boats as well as very large power units installed from north slope of AK to South Africa.

@@CarAudioFabrication Actually just finished it. Built an amp rack, deadened and sealed the doors, ran all new KnuKonceptz 16AWG to my front components. And built a 2.18 ft^3 tuned to 32.21 box to replace my middle seat/console in my single cab truck. Next things I'm planning on getting is a mic so I can use my DSP to its fullest, getting some front components because coaxials offaxis response suck when you are 6'5" and they are deep down in the door. I'd also like to get another 2 channel amp to run full active, and get a beefier sub. But then I would have to make a new amp rack and new box. Dont feel like doing that again right now

I definitely recommend chamfering the holes before you tap. Atleast with steel, there's a chance of mashing your threads in a tiny bit, causing you to have to run the tap through again. All up to you though, it might not even matter with plastic

Running the D-4.800 and LC-1.800 in my 5th Gen 4Runner powering Morel Hybrid 602's active and a JL Audio 12w6v3. I have nothing but great things to say about AudioControl amps. The DSP is good, but limited in some aspects and is best for an aftermarket HU vs OEM integration. Not that OEM integration isn't horrible, the DSP is better suited to a clean slate so to speak. My new build is going to use the AudioControl LC-6.1200 for a Morel raw drivers 3 way active setup in my Lexus GX. It's equivalent to Morel Elate Titanium. I am using JL Fix86 to Twk88. This time I'm going with 2 JL Audio 8w3v2's to see what I can get out of them. I just can't pass up AudioControl amps for their warm and natural sound. Is it as good as a high end A/B, probably not. But, they sure have impressed some fellow audiophiles in my area.

Big fan of everything you do! Question. I've watched your other video on quick disconnects and see you done the same here for the speaker wires. Do you believe there is any power loss or distortion, or anything being introduced by using disconnects? I am looking at using some, just wanted more info or performance with them.
    Thanks!

    • @thebkg
      @thebkg 3 роки тому +1

Any connector, be it a disconnect or just a simple crimp connector, adds a small amount of resistance to the cable path. However, this is only a tiny increase. If you use say 4 or 5 such connectors on a single cable run (and I've seen ppl do that) then you could see a noticeable drop in signal strength. But today's equipment, including head units, typically have at least 2 Volts 9f signal on the RCA outputs, and often even more. At that signal strength you'd have to use a oscilloscope to measure the difference. And even then it just takes a very small fraction of a turn on the Amp Gain to make up that difference. But honestly you won't be able to hear it.

Try to have any of the power, speaker, or RCA cables cross each other at a 90° angle, like a "+", even if they need to be made a bit longer in order to do so. This will minimize interference.
There are also two different types of RCA cables that should be used depending on if your amplifiers have balanced-differential inputs or not. Otherwise the chances of picking up RFI & EMI inducted noise will be greater.
Twisted pair RCAs should be used with balanced-differential inputs, and high-quality shielded Coaxial cable RCAs should be used for all others. Most budget and mid-tier amplifiers use this. And higher-end amps tend to have the better balanced-differential inputs (isolated from ground).
So check your amplifier(s) and try different RCA cables.
And some Class-D amplifiers just radiate or create a lot of their own noise. These will often affect the quality of the AM/FM reception as well.
Also, setting your gains properly will help to minimize noise in your system and provide better audio quality. Search UA-cam for "D'Amore Engineering Setting Gain".
David D'Amore is the designer of Steve Meade's SMD DD1/DD1+ Distortion Detectors that help you to properly set your head unit, DSP, and amplifier gains.

Hey I have a quick question and I'm stuck in place until I really figure this out. It's about the passive crossovers. Being that I'm using the RF T2652-S 6.5 components in the front doors/dash, does it matter where I set my high pass filters for the front 2 channels being that the component speakers have the passive crossovers and the job of the passive X-overs is to filter out unwanted frequencies? Could an all pass or full range signal be sent on channels 1&2 because there's the X-over?

Where did you use the smaller ferrules and crimper set from your video description? I only see the larger ones used for the power.

Hey Mark. I've been watching your channel for awhile now. I haven't seen a video on what happens when you run subs at a different ohm. So I have a dvc 4 ohm wired at 2 ohm's. My am is a 2 ohm , 1 ohm stable. At one ohm you get the max output of 1k/2k. That's what my sub is rated at. What would happen if I ran it at 1 ohm?

If you add an epicenter... how would you connect it?
From head unit front rca--epicenter-4/champ-sub amp?
    Or
Head unit front rca rear rca-4/ch amp -epicenter-sub amp ???

you have a 4 channel amp for speakers and monoblock for subs. i dont get that because isnt this system having 2 tweeters, 2 mid bass, 2 coaxials, and 2 subs? 1. ive seen amps that are say 6 channel, 9channel dsp. is that what allows u to use only 4 channel amp? 2. i thought for every sub you need a amp channel? if you have a monoblock amp how can you use 2 subs? does the way you wire the subs allow 1 channel to power both subs?

Mark is using a female XT60 or XT90 connector on a short "pigtail" wire connected to the amp so it can stay permanently connected to the amp rack.
The sub box will have a longer wire connected to it with a matching male XT60/90 connector.
This makes it easy to quickly & securely remove the subwoofer box or amp rack individually or separately from each other for service, tuning, or updates.
Mark and other good installers will also use these XT60 or XT90 connectors for the tweeters, midrange, and midbass speakers.
They work especially well when installing custom A-pillars, and dash top speakers, but work great for door speakers as well.

These are quality amplifiers and quality shielded RCAs. This isn't as big of an issue as people make it out to be anymore.
