I think the answer lies in the fact that the Prophet (PBUH) left Medina for a purpose of travelling onwards for a while so the short distance of leaving his usual place of habitat encompasses he had started his travel (s). In today’s term travel is used loosely in work/ visiting family. We leave our home but the intention is to return same day so no matter what the distance we are not travelling. We are going from A to B and our intention is to return. However even if we visit relatives and stay with them in the same country but our intention is visiting then that would not be travel either no matter what the distance. If you were visiting but intended to go further or see other places / meeting other people then that would be travelling as you will be moving with the intention of carrying on your travels. Is your Niyaa to travel or visit. So better to stay safe and read full and only shorten when you are actually travelling which starts from the moment you leave home. Although I travel to work every day I am going from point A to point B knowing I am returning to my usual habitat no matter what the distance so technically not travelling!
The Sheikh has confused me more than i was, before. Now he's talking about travelling and commuting and this makes it really difficult to understand his answer. Sheikh, please give an elaborate and precise answer that will fit the intelligence of a layman like me. JazakAllah.
According to the hadith, we should shorten if we are away from our starting point, home, for more than 4 days. If they're going and coming back in a day and two, we shouldn't shorten. And then there's distance factor, that is different.
U need to look into the matter further but I believe the point the sheikh was trying to make was once u SET OUT to travel, even if u have not gotten very far YET, the rules of the prayer of the traveller apply. If ur going to ur friends house that's not "travelling". But look into the matter correctly and Allah knows ur sincerity in seeking correct knowledge.
I agree with the brother going to your friends house is not travelling you need to first determine what is travelling then it should be okay inshallah 👍

Why can’t ppl just their questions directly for Sheikh to give answers from his own knowledge, rather than try to quote Hadiths that, in most cases questioners don’t have any knowledge about?

Yes Akhi. Basically, if you are travelling for more than 80 kilometers. You can start to shorten the prayers as soon as you leave your city limits, or your localities limits. But if you are not going to travel more than 80 kilometers, it's just commute so you cannot shorten the prayers even if you leave the limits.

Give priority to divine orders rather than human interpretations .. This is how people of previous scriptures ended up currupting their original revelations... Really, it's their Ulema who actually were responsible for deviations.. Do toil and reflect eternally on the message of your creator .. It is worthwhile to question the original Arabic Tafseers too at times, which were formed about 200 years after Rasoolullah SAW .. Lots of linguistic and other changes have taken place within such a span ... The beauty is that the noble Quran has its own set of understanding methodology which most Ulemas choose to ignore!! SAD!!!
If a go from Birmingham to london a distance of 120miles, according to sheikh im not a traveller. Because im travelling in my porch 911 instead of a camel or donkey. 😂
Yes this is true and it makes sence aswell since it only Takes you 2 hours. If you came by foot or donkey it would Take you 2 days which makes it permissible and logical to shorten the prayers
Just my 50cents advice for those that are still confused, instead of trying to find out what is right or wrong . The easiest way is just to pray the full set and don't shorten it!!! End of story ! Don't waist your life on none sense. Whenever in doubt do which is for sure not wrong!
You are very wrong and your statement may be very misleading. Fear Allah and know that you would be questioned concerning what you say. Leave fatwa to scholars

In those days even short distances were very long as they had to walk or use camels. In modern times a car can get you far quicker.
Sheikh speaks deutsch 😂. Finde ich gut 😊
The question hasn't not been answered
Still confused about when we should shorten our prayers
BIG question mark here Sheikh❔
According to the hadith, we should shorten if we are away from our starting point, home, for more than 4 days. If they're going and coming back in a day and two, we shouldn't shorten.
And then there's distance factor, that is different.
May Allah forgive me if I've done any mistake in stating your answer and teach us right
@nidaaff May Allah forgive us all
The scholars give different verdicts.so what was the answer,?
Once u leave ur town going other town short the prayer clear answer
So it doesn't matter how far away from home you are? So is it permissible to shorten my prayers when I go visit someone?
