+Michelle F.Jones xD
Michelle F.Jones I died! he's so amazingly talented!
HA HA!!
Spot on !
THAT COMMENT XD
I read this before he started doing it in the video, now that I've seen him it's even funnier 🤣
Man: I love you avi
Avi: I love you aswell
ha ha ha
I was crying from laughter.
What Avi should have said, "I love me as well"
Miraide Palmer I would XD
+Corin Lobley (Jewelled Wolf) it is what I always say. Sometimes my friends will be like, "hey I like your shirt." My response is, "I do too."
His voice: DEEEEEP. His Overtone: Mitch has competition.
forrreall
+Prestantious Unicorns Yeah, but you can't sing with it, cause you have to keep a certain mouth position.
Still doesn't change the pitch of it.
Syllavr you can't sing in the Syguut style like he uses here but you definitely can in Kargyraa, which is the oldest style of Khoomei.
Prestantious Unicorns the whistling noise over his voice changes constantly
I think when God was making Avi he was pouring a bit of talent into him but accidentally poured all of it into him and now he is living peacefully amount us today
Tru
more like he poured the entire jar of sexy into Avi
Poured to much morgan freeman now we have to pour sexy lumberjack man...oh and make him a little shorter so he isn't too manly.
more like that
god doesn't exist lol
Well that explais my lack of talents: Avi stole them!
"I'm gonna talk about this sexy man over here..."
Scott knows what's up.
Yes he does lol. Lucky is all I can say because Avi is PURE perfection!
Summer Kitchens ikrrrr
Whomever Mrs. Kaplan will be, she’ll be a damn lucky gal.
Scott: "hi I'm Avi"
Me: *dies of laughter*
I died! that needs to be my ring tone or something!
Kayla Uzlik sameeee😂😂😂😂😂
Kayla Uzlik
Kayla Uzlik when is the time stamp
I was your 1k!
First i was like, 'that's just usual singing', but then i was like, 'what's that high pitched sound?! Is he doing that himself??!!' I PRAISE YOU AVI
He seems to be experienced at overtones. I can produce the tones, but I can't control them as nearly as good as him.
Same.
Same! They're fairly easy to produce but that level of control and volume is insane
@@courtneylewis2415 Yes, I can only do a few notes and they are not very loud.
I actually produced the tones once. It was almost by accident. I’ve never been able to do it again.
I do believe that I have just heard the voice of God.
Well, he does sort of look like Jesus...😂😂😂
+Katrinna Moon How can you know how Jesus looks?
+Katrinna Moon 😂😂😂😂😂
+Erich Martens lighten up. I believe +Katrinna Moon was just joking
+KaregoAt No doubt that Avi has such a deep powerful voice, I too have such a voice, but try listening to such people 'bass singers' as the late JD Sumner, Ken Turner, Glenn Dustin, the late Mikhail Zlatopolsky, (King of bass in Russia, Haha!) You will come to a conclusion that what kind of voice God has, a superpowerful deep voice than all these combined!
I. Am. Deceased. Send my remains to my mother
+shevonnie salmon SAME
+MyLien “Bones” Cherry I'm over here still freaking out
+shevonnie salmon no thanks hahahahah JK
+Taylor Jorgenson 😂😂😂 and I'm still freaking out
Same. I'm just like "well! Gonna go pack myself into my own coffin. Bye world!"
i totally know that he's doing this but wouldn't it be hilarious if Mitch was just chilling behind the curtain singing the high part!lol
How is he doing that???????!??
@@arielbrathwaite2037 To be honest to overtone is not really hard to do, the hard thing is to contol it like him thats the real hard thing, you can make overtone if you find where your voice double it self you can try and record your self, for me to be able to do a overtone is like making a "iu" sound and then try to find when appear the overtone. Good Luck
@@arielbrathwaite2037
It's kinda like whistling
There are UA-cam how-to videos; search on "Sygyt overtone singing."
That said, my music teacher told me never to try Tuvan throat singing (of which this is one variety), that it would ruin my voice. That may be because I'm a contralto; it certainly doesn't seem to have hurt Avi.
Seriously...what, the what?!?!? LOL That was the craziest thing I've ever heard!
it's called tuvan throat singing.. mongols do it best..
Actually, they call it Tuvan "throat" singing, however the specificity of this sound doesn't come from the throat but the shape you give to your mouth. More precisely you change the volume of your mouth cavity by moving your tongue forward and backword, and it works as a filter. Since a single note sung with your voice is a combination of several frequencies, your tongue can help amplifying one frequency (or maybe lower the others, i don't remember).
Check that video, it is well explained:

@@RCiler
I'm mongolian
😃
@@mishkamouse2390 and? you can overtune?
@@RCiler
Well ye I can kid of bit not as good as other people
I was at this show. I was worried no recording would pick up the sound of both pitches, but this turned out great. Thanks for posting! We gave him such a big standing ovation after this one. This and Kevin's cello beatbox solo were two of the major highlights of the night, for sure.
***** did you listen to it very closely though? He controls his overtone so that it sounds like The Lion Sleeps Tonight, and that's pretty damn impressive
Can't you hear the melody of lion sleeps tonight? the one above the "oo" sound? it's so amazing!
***** Yeah, he started off key, and wasn't even following the melody at the beginning, then he kinda went into it correctly for like 5 seconds, and then he was all over the place....he clearly doesn't have control over his throat singing cause it's just something he learned to create effects....Kaplan is NOT a professional throat singer people, hear some real throat singing and Kaplan will look like a dork...he still has very beautiful overtones, it's impossible for anyone NOT to when they know how to make it pitch perfect (which he does) but when it comes to actually using the voice as an instrument, he hits more wrong notes than right, and he gets lost in the melody and the rhythm too easily, so it shows his lack of dedication.
no, will, you need to get some perspective because this isn't some miraculous impossible tone to create, it really is easier than singing. (but it can be harder in some aspects.) I'm sorry that the truth hurts you fanboys, but he didn't do throat singing any justice at all, and he was off key, and he wasn't following the melody at all in the beginning, and then he went back to being off key on the last half, he was only in key for like barely 10 seconds....I know what I'm talking about because there's no instrument that I can't make sound amazing, plus I throat sing....if you were musically inclined even just a bit, you'd be hearing what I'm hearing, it's great, but it's pathetic to perform this when 90% of the notes were wrong....he has nice tone and nice control, but this performance shows he lacks the focus and practice to be able to perform this how it should've been performed....he's definitely NOT a professional throat singer at all, he just knows how to make those sounds that are so rare to hear nowadays, show this to Asians that are used to hearing these sounds and they will not be impressed at all by this.
John Follmer This isn't a Tuvan throat singing competition. It's a young a cappella group who is presenting the idea of overtone singing in a concert and to an audience that wouldn't typically expect to hear it. This isn't the place for self promotion, John, especially when it's to downplay someone else's hard work. You also get further with compliments or keeping your opinions to yourself when marketing yourself than by hating on what others do. You are talented, but that's no reason to be negative. So, good luck to you in your musical adventures. I wish you lots of success.
Am i the only person who fell in love with Avi by his low voice? Hopefully not. 😅
Christina Juliana no, me too...and THIS was AMAZING💖 he' s an alien, can't be😁 i wish i could meet him but this is almost impossible to me😢
No, you're not! I just very very recently discovered him, and it was definetely his voice that totally got to me!! After that I noticed his beautiful eyes, gorgeous smile and also his nice hands (the hands of an artist). He really is something special. ♥
His new song vibrated me to my core girl😱😍
Watch the video for dance of the sugar plum fairy, I feel in love with his voice but on that video I fell in love with him LOL
I FALL IN LOVE WITH HIM WITH EVERY NOTE HE SINGS
When he just sings bass, I've said he has one of the most phenomenal voices I've ever heard, but this is just off the chain. I've never heard a human do this so well.
omfg he can sing tibetan throat singing?!?!?!?!?! holy shit respect!!!!!!
poppetjin om()G*
Overtone singing is a separate thing, it is not throat singing! You can do both at the same time (and the Tibetans often do) but right now Avi is doing one but now the other.
If I remember correctly, though, he has trained in Tuvan throat singing.
Yes, that is indeed the Tuvan style of overtone singing, specifically the sygyt style...best exemplified by the late, great Kongar-Ol Ondar.
*likes video* " Ok, let's watch this magician at work!"
How in the hell can he do both at the same time ?!?! MIND BLOWN!!!
@Garrett Keane, Avi separates the tone into it's component notes by moving his tongue back and forth.
Tuvan-originated throat singing. Beautifully done.
L.Y. G. Yep it's awesome! I love Tuvan throat singing!
oh wow...can't believe I haven't seen this before. I've always been fascinated by Mongolian throat singing, but I've never seen a westerner do it with such precision. it's an easy enough technique to DO,I can produce a reasonable double tone, but controlling it to that extent takes some skill. I've always liked Avis singing but this is something else....very talented young man.
I live in the PNW and there’s this guy that goes around to all the different free hot springs in the state I live in and he’s an incredible throat singer, like nothing I’ve heard in real life before. And the dude is white as fuck 😂 it’s amazing. When he’s there you don’t feel compelled to chat like you normally would, we all just sit there totally enchanted. Damn I love the PNW
@@that.neurodivergentyeah I lived in Seattle for 5 years and everything about the surrounding area is just beautiful.... Except for the totalitarian Marxist government but hey what can you do? 😅 The people are amazing (just avoid cap hill). But for real, Washington is probably one of the most gorgeous states in America. Where else can you drive from a coastal cliff straddled by a rain forest over breathtaking mountains and end up in the desert in half a day?
I just wish the radical post modernists, elitist yuppie hipsters and light twirling edm k zombies didn't ruin it... I've been saying it for decades, psychedelics being illegal is so dangerous. When people delve into the depths of conciousness without guide, purpose or intention they end up fried and listless.
And even worse they end up abusing sacred entheogens that have therapeutic benifits and have been used safely for thousands of years. The amount of people I know who do ketamine every day, rip dmt carts like it's a vape pen or eat mushrooms any chance they get without gaining anything from them is disgusting and makes those of us who advocate for, research or study them look foolish.
Thankfully this ebb is flowing and we are getting back to reality culturally, and people are taking more seriously psychedelics immense benifit. Especially with end of life, ptsd and addiction.
Yeah I need to stop myself, I'm rambling rather incoherently about something completely unrelated to the video I just watched and comment I responded to. I can go on about this topic for hours and have done so with much more clarity than I was just doing so imma stop and wish whoever read that a happy Tuesday ❤😅❤
HE IS A FUCKING WIZARD.
NotMostGirls Yer a wizard, Avi
The Girl Who Lived You legend! :-D
Now I'm just thinking Avi would do a great part as a young Sirius.
PhebusdesTours MY MIND HAS BEEN BLOWN....it makes so much sense... he's got the hair... he's been reincarnated as Avi 😂😂
I have such an embarrassing crush on this guy. Beautiful and talented. Who wouldn't swoon for that?? ;)
Jeff Freeman I too have a terrible crush on Avi. I can't get enough of his voice!
HOLY FUCKING SHIT AVI HOW??? OMG O.O
+Tia Z It works. I can do it aswell. But I have to learn how to pitch the tones.
+Elian Aragon Your tongue's position controls the pitch. Moving your tongue farther back in your mouth makes the pitch higher and vice versa. But you have to move it *very* little distances at a time when you're starting out.

he's a human bagpipe. I love him.
😂😂😂
Epic comment! :-D

wow your comment is from 4 years ago and it has me scream laughing, thank you. 😂
I can't believe I actually got to hear him do this in person in our all-state rehearsal. I didn't see it coming, but it was amazing for all of us.
Omg that is amazing honestly! I've loved Avi from the beginning, what a legend!
I didn't know this *could* be done with the vocal instrument. I'd heard it with strings, but voice? So amazing!
the voice is basically a stringed instrument with a resonance chamber.
I literally need to scientifically know how this is possible!?
It's actually pretty simple so learn (but horribly difficult to master though). You sing a simple note while holding the tip of your tongue on your palate, then you change the shape of your mouth. But search on UA-cam, there are great videos about this.
Using the chest resonance and lower vocal cords to make one harmonic, while using the upper vocal cords and throat to make a second, the tongue and mouth can make a third and the nasal cavity can make a fourth harmonic. Look up tuvan throat singing. there are many different styles.. my fave is khoomei
Nacht Kind SAME!!
Jennifer Talbot right on. haha.. Avi does this well though... Its really amazing...
Nacht Kind YES he is! Have you heard the two Mongolian guys who Tuvan sing and rap? They're awesome! LOL and I hate rap but then again I know their rap is about good things and not pimpin hoes and shootings..
"I LOVE YOU AVI" "I love you as well."
Reminds me sort of the drones and chanter on a bagpipe sound, but the fact that a person can do it is amazing!
He knows how to do Tibetan throat singing. He is handsome and a talented singer. Oh, yes, he is also young. If he has great health, then he has the world on a string.
So...where are u getting with this
At the beginning of the video, I felt like I was watching Scott's attempt to break out into stand-up comedy. 😅 (And, OH MY GOD, Avi is a magician!)
Thanks dear I just hope you don’t get tire of my deep voice hahaha New music out soon #avikaplan
I have a friend who can do this A LITTLE BIT BUT THIS IS CRAZY OMG THIS IS SO COOL
Actually everyone can do it with a little bit of practice. But it takes a ton of patience and some vocal controll to get as good as avi here.
WOW! Mind blown! I had no idea Avi had such a capability! My admiration and respect for this guy just increased by an order of magnitude! Definitely a very talented and gifted individual!
Scott, Kirsite, or Mitch cant do that.
This would be just another singing group without the extraordinary talents of Kevin & Avi.
I love these guys no doubt, but let's keep it real.......Kevin & Avi add the "special sauce" to PTX.
+xiamara b they're the "meat and potatoes" :)
Honestly, no shade, but I don't think Kirstie or Scott would've survived in the music industry on their own. Mitch has the vocal control of a goddess and even w/o singing could still survive w/ his EDM. Kevin would've been a doctor by now. And Avi I don't really know. There's a possibly that Kirstie would go back to choir and Scott could maybe get a record deal if he'd played his cards well. Anyways they need all parts of the band to stay fully functioning and that's good, because I don't want any of them to leave PTX. :)
If there is an "ever after" if PTX disbanded (perish the thought but after all nothing is forever). You are pretty on point about the "after lives" of all the members except Avi. Think about him, especially (b/c I think he is the most diverse and unique member of the group - he'd most likely find a place back to where it all began - his choral background), but I'd like you to share your thoughts.
xiamara b Yeah, I thought so too, but I don't think Avi would even want to do more choire stuff after PTX.
Alice In Salt Land Avi left
Been a fan since i first heard you and the quatrotronix now but know that i do respect your decision and that whoever fills your spot got some huge boots to fill...love ya man
this is out of this world! I can't pick my jaw off the floor.
lol people need to stop screaming every time he talks!!! i love avi too, but let the man speak!
People are just so rude.
Ever see the Ellen DeGenerous show?
Avi: Sup!
Fans: *die screaming their heads off*
The rest of the group: *facepalm*
I SWEAR HES A ALIEN
Avi hasn't said anything about it yet.. but I'm pretty sure he's not human.
Skippy TheWolf but we can tell :D
Or a god ..one of the 2... But that was friggin awesome either way
Skippy TheWolf He is as real as that guy that sings really high....
He's not... there are tutorials on youtube to learn it yourself
His voice is amazing!!!!! ❤️❤️☺️
Thanks dear I appreciate you very much for your amazing support. #avikaplan
His speaking voice, damn bitch. I'm kind of in love...?
Scott: And I knew he was going to be in the group the second he introduced himself, cause he was like, *hi, I'm Avi.*
And then it turns out Avi's speaking voice IS that low, and I'm cracking up while I'm rewinding it. 😄
Oh my gosh, the talent of this group, and it's individual members! There just aren't words!

overtone singing is so much fun. It psychs people out!
Amazing and what a gift. Avi you just keep on rocking.
This video should have millions of views!
That was beautiful. Seriously, I'm still smiling about it.
Keep smiling my friend thanks for your appreciation #avikaplan
awesome cantor singing what a blessing
harmonic overtones!
wonder was it is hours of practice and amazing teachers or a natural talent or combo of both anyway thanks Avi for sharing your talent many blessings
I was there and this still blows me away!
Mind=blown!!!!!!!!!!! Avi (well, all of Pentatonix) is amazing! My god I have goosebumps!
Avi has the best voice I have ever heard. He sings "Ring of fire" with Home free and it is unbelievable ! Good Luck and hope to hear you again soon
AVI IS SERIOUSLY SO FUCKING COOL
I really miss Avi from the group. Maybe one day he can come back, but I still love you all.
omg his voice
Iwas so pleased to see Avi with the rest of the group in St Louis last Thursday. Thank you Avi and Pentatonix for a great concert at the Fox Theater in St. LOUIS.
there's a term for that vocal technique. it is used by Tibetan monks and takes years to learn. Avi didn't just master it, he managed to produce different pitches as well. that's something MAJOR!
aka throat singing... and some other term to it too, but monks use Chanting... not the same...
search for tuvan sygyt
@@GhostCrowGamer, the other term, which is used in music theory, is polyphonic overtone singing.
@@C.O.G. I agree with your statement Thank you.
His voice is so deeeeep! I'm wheezing
how in the? what in the?! how the? what!! what! did i just hear!? wtf!?
Tuvan throat singing. Easy to learn, difficult to master. Normally used in prayer and meditative chanting. I'm surprised he can control that high tone so well.
Tuvan throat singing? That is intriguing, I must learn this immediately
I know right...how tha fuck...lol
It's called polyphonic singing, it's not too hard to learn! Just look up some tutorials
When I first heard Avi Kaplan overtone sing, I had no idea that such a thing was possible. It is amazing to find something humans are capable of, of which I had no idea. Simply amazing!
tbh i'm a girl and i would kill to be a bass, but at least i get to be an alto! that's fun too.
As a bass, I salute you, lady bass.
***** LOL i was a "paid tenor" in a church choir when I was in college, even though I'm a woman. Lady tenors are made of awesome and win :)
I'm a girl and I'm a tenor (:
I'm a male alto people say I sing like a girl all the time
Well, I'm a female baratone (comfortable voice range: C2-F3), but I would love to be a bass singer, too.
Can’t believe what I’m hearing! You are awesome...
I actually think he might be Jesus
I can see it. Now I'm never getting rid of this thought, am I? Thanks, now every time I'll look at him, I'll be like "oh, hey, Jesus!"
Nah steve aoki is jesus
James Bondage Morgan freeman is not happy with you now
***** Jesus was born Jewish...
MiwaSchwa And Avi was born awesome.
I taught myself overtone singing, but his are so strong and controllable... incredible
Not hard to do, most of us produce overtones at one time or another as they are just a part of the sounds we make. Now that kind of control, that takes some time and dedication.
Man! I was always told that people can't sing two notes at a time :/ Had I known it was possible, I would have tried to practice it or something.
Anna Marie Nieves Everything is possible when it comes to music. If you can imagine it, somewhere and somewhen, someone has done it. Now we have the ability to record it so that others can hear those audible wonders. Rejoice in what your voices can do!
It's just cool. I personally only ever remember producing 2 sounds when I was sick once. I was never able to do it again
***** Oh that bit is easy, just no one ever does it. Move down one note and you change down one key.
***** Not the first as far as I know. There are monks in Tibet who dedicate their lives to overtone singing, they practice years to perfect the art. It's originated form Tibet actually.
I have literally NEVER heard someone sing overtone like that like that was incredible holy fucking hell AAGH I LOVE YOU AVI
OMFG! I freaking love avi's voice😍😍😍😍😍 and avi😂
Thanks so much dear your love means so much to me. #avikaplan
That is incredibly clear and brilliant!
Wow! How do you do 2 notes at once? I didn't know that was possible! Amazing!
It's hard to master..but you'd be surprised that it is natural to everyone's voice...if you sing a note (don't change it) and go from an "oooo" sound with your lips, to an "eee" sound....there will be an overtone....it is hard to hear at first but it's there. You can amplify it by putting your tongue up against where the roof of your mouth meets your teeth. It's hard to get right but when you do it sounds epic :O
It's easy to do the tonal shift, but hitting the two notes simultaneously like he did is very difficult to get down
Every sound in nature contains these magical overtones...think of the Doppler effect, or when you play the udu...well vocally, you are manipulating those natural acoustic effects that happen in nature. When you hit a note, you're also controlling how much air flows out of this small divet formed in your tongue when pressed against the roof of your mouth...your basically whistling out of your throat, yet it's WAY easier than whistling, I'm very good at this (better than Kaplan, he doesn't practice it much at all.) yet I suck at whistling.
That's flat fucking unbelievable. Holy shit, did my respect just go up. I've loved his base, I've loved his softer, higher notes, now I find he can do them both at once. Wow.
How the fuck, he is so fucking talented
Nothing short of AMAZING!! Thanks for putting this up!!
AWESOME!!!! What a beautiful instrument your voice is. And your range blows me away.
my ovaries popped when he said "I love you as well."
plot twist: I am a male
Not gonna lie. This made me chuckle!
Omg..SAME, except actual ovaries here🤣🤣

I was at this performance - totally awesome!
thats so ridiculus good. not human
A friend put me on to Pantatonix. I'm so glad he did. I was just saddened to learn that Avi is leaving. But you must follow your dreams. Good luck and God bless. R.B. In Colorado.
I don't get it. Was he singing and whistling a the same time?
Isaias Olivares i dont think so
although i can do that and it kind of sounds like that
No he wasn't whistling it was singing!!!!!!!
When a violin string or the skin of the larynx vibrates, it vibrates all at once, in halves, in quarters, etc. That's called overtones. (look overtones up on UA-cam for a clearer explanation). When Avi changes the shape of his mouth opening it showcases the different overtones, letting you hear those whistle-like sounds. It's the same kind of thing you hear when you make your own voice sound shrill or mellow. You're changing more than just the volume.
It's called a whistle tone, it's singing
As a matter of fact, overtone singing is a singing tradition which has been used in Mongolia, Tibet or Altai for ages. Avi is pretty talented, in addition to his amazing voice.
I WILL MISS YOUR BEAUTIFUL FACE AND AWESOME VOICE ,GOD BE WITH YOU ALWAYS AVI,YOU ARE LOVED IN THE USA ,SHEILA FROM FLORIDA
What...how is this even possible
Tiger Tiger It's basically just the nasal pharynx vibrating at the overtone series of the base note (the one you sing).
That was frikkin AWESOME
Avi is awesome! How does he do that?!
I agree
I've seen many attempt this but his was flawless!
I was like -.- he ain'td king anything and then I caught it and I was like O.o holy shaaaiiitttt!!

This is just amazing! I've never heard this before.
We all just heard a voice of a god. EVERYONE KNEALLLLL
I was so confused like whaaaaat?? That's amazing dude!!
Wonderful! This is throat singing (high and low tones at the same time), originated from mongolians.
Oh man!! I didn't hear it the first 2 times but then i heard it, and it was amazing!
That's insane, and his voice is so calming too
Thanks dear 🙏 i really appreciate that compliment #avikaplan
Whoa. No,that IS hard to do, to basically have your overtones 'playing' a different song!
I actually can't. What the heck? Avi is amazing!!🖤👌🏼
