As an example of a different approach, I walked from Porto to Santiago and then on to Fisterra in March/April '22, carrying a 27Litre Loewe Alpine back pack plus a North Face bum bag. The next time I do it I think that I would go for a 35Litre bag plus the bum bag which would give me a little bit extra flexibility.
We are hearing a lot of people doing it with smaller bags, and indeed we saw a lot of people with 30-40L ones. We perhaps made a mistake recommending in the 50L range because we were carrying camping supplies (obviously most people won't be camping so you are right, something smaller is better). If you ever plan on camping during a long hiking trip, you will indeed need 50L plus, I still think it's a worthy investment for an adventurers gear set.
Great advice, ... I'm curious if you bought your shoes your exact size or one size bigger? ... I've read where some people felt they needed that extra room to ward off blisters?
Hi Malcolm, I brought shoes that simply fit - meaning they aren't too snug, but not too loose. Holly brought shoes half a size bigger and that's what worked for her. The key was trying them out ahead of time so you know you have a trusted pair. However, never despair - I've been forced to buy shoes along a route before and although not financially ideal, it saved me in that particular case. Really can't recommend enough a good running shoe company like Saucony.

What about shower shoes or sandals for evening around town?
