I agree! But since some people are/want to be so obtuse, I think I would add “per skein” after the price just to eliminate any confusion at all. Sad to have to go to such lengths,but better to be “protected” in that way from this kind of laughable complaint.
I would expect only one skein of yarn unless I selected a larger number. How unfortunate that the customer didn’t talk to you before giving one star. That being said, you can’t please everyone. The new yarns look divine! Love the new blues and that lovely light brown you are planning to make a shawl from. As you said, I like a little interest and challenge too, but some ease to knit mindlessly too. A bit of everything- the texture would be amazing, I am sure.
I would love to test the plus size sweater but I always find that there is not enough time given for test knits, especially for plus sized women. I don't know how much time you give but I think you said the US testers would have a week or two? I work full time and have a family to take of so I would a month or two, not a week or two. Sorry I can't help. I hope you found some testers that can do it for you. It's a beautiful sweater!! 😍 I'll have to make it after it's released.

That is unbelievable that anyone would think they get four skeins...first of all for the price of one and second of all where they have to choose the number of skeins they want. That is clearly someone just looking to find fault...don't change anything!!!! As for what brings me joy when I am knitting...I really enjoy a bit of lace. I find that when I am knitting the same thing over and over, I get easily distracted so I like it when I have to pay attention to a pattern. I tend to forget about everything else except my project. I can’t believe some people. She obviously isn’t used to buying yarn on-line. Regarding patreon, I don’t do any of that because there are too many wonderful people out there and I can’t afford to support you all. What I can do is watch the adds, or let them play so at least you get a little something. I totally understand why you would move to that platform but I personally will miss your videos. Regarding the difficulty of finding testers for the larger sizes, I've seen at least one designer do the following. On the pattern page she lists all the sizes that she developed (I think) but the published pattern contains the sizes up to whatever was the largest one actually tested, or at least that's how I understood her note. Then she begins the pattern description (on the pattern page, not in the actual pattern) with a note that if somebody wants to knit the pattern in one of the yet unpublished sizes to contact her, they get the pattern for free, she's finally found her tester so afterwards she can publish the pattern with this size included and everybody wins. When I first saw this in a pattern description I thought it was a very smart solution, since then I've seen it in other patterns and I have the feeling that it was always the same designer but I simply can't remember who it was right now, and I might be mistaken and I may have seen this approach used by more than one person. Anyways, just giving you an idea. Now off to watch the rest of the episode :) Oh, and happy women's day!
Wow, no it's not just you. It'scrazy that someone would think they'd get 4 skeins if they only pay for one. So sorry you got a bad review. I've loved the yarn I purchased from you -- so thoughtfully packaged and lovingly sent.
Just a thought: Instead of changing the images on your website you could consider changing the default to 0 skeins and making it mandatory to specify the amount you wish to purchase - if your shop system can handle that ☺️

Hi, first time finding your podcast. Love the feathers on the large bag. I would suggest putting up a preorder for the bag, maybe with a small first come, first surve discount of 5 or 10%, and that may give you an idea of how well they will sell. ❤
Lovely yarns as always! Oh come on! How did someone not know she was only getting 1 skein. When you order clothes online the model is wearing a whole outfit. Does she think she would get everything in the photo? I always reach out to a company if I have an issue before leaving a less than perfect review. Usually the issue is resolved and then the review is a 5 star experience
I visited your website again for the purpose of seeing if a customer could reasonably misunderstand how many skeins of yarn they were ordering for the price stated. Short answer is yes, and here's why: For each yarn for sale, there is a photo showing at least two skeins of yarn side-by-side. Most of the photos I saw showed just two skeins. The price appears under the photo, but the price does not include the words "per skein". While most shoppers might understand that the price is only for one skein, it is not unreasonable for a customer to think that they would be getting what's shown in the photo for the price stated below the photo. The simplest way to remedy this ambiguity would be to add the words "per skein" along with the monetary amount stated. If the item for sale is a bundle, then of course the words "per bundle" would apply, and so forth. Hope this helps.

I haven't had the financial opportunity to purchase your yarn but I can say, the review is based on User Error. This may have been a first time buyer of hand dyed yarn because most knitters know you can't buy a bundle of yarn for 29.00. Your site is very clear and I compared to three other sites of hand dyers, and they sometimes have 10+ skeins of yarn in the background and one skein up close. I would not expect to receive more than one skein for $29. I hope you get tons of positive reviews because you deserve it. Not only that, customers should always take the opportunity to contact the seller to resolve or answer inquiries. She should have asked before she purchased. Sorry, not sorry, for getting on the soapbox but it boggles my mind when people don't think before they speak.

Maybe she just didn't check her oder before she checked out you usually have that opportunity to do so before placing an order so enough of that. Love your new design with the mohair I do have a question is it picky the mohair? And what yarn were you using for your melancholy sweater I love the design and color. I used to live in Hawaii and some of our lagoons were that color. 2. i would love to see your summer home and your vlogs are really relaxing. if you can be bothered i would love to watch. 3. regarding patreon, i would not subscribe. I understand the logic and the monetization of content, but i like to watch so much content it would cost me a fortune if i started signing up with everyone who has moved to patreon. Please do not change your website. It is very clear. Your yarns are unique and show the care and effort you put into the colors and yarn quality. Creativity requires a lot of effort and it does not make business sense to think you are selling multiples of items for the price of one. And I love the feather design on the tote bag. 👍

I think next to the price you write each on the web site. But no it isn’t you but we all think differently. So it is good to cover all the bases. It is good to look at other sites to see how they sell there yarn. Do they have more than one skein in the picture. Do they say each next to the price. I personally think I would expect just one skein.

I would say, the person who gave you a bad review wasn't used to shopping from indie dyers. Don't change anything...it's clear. I would be happy to pre-order your beautiful bag with feathers.. I love a lifestyle vlog, so would be open to patreon. It all depends on the price because of exchange rate.. look forward to pattern release for striped sweater. ..my preference for shawls is a Crescent shape with little or no pattern ...I think the star is the yarn... is this TMI? If you have to choose the number to add to cart it should be pretty clear that is the quantity one is buying. Agree with others - that person does not normally buy yarn 😅
I am so sorry u had bad review. It can sting especially if they did not give u a chance to respond. As for changing I know many here said no need o change and while for fellow knitter / yarn lover it is clear that it's 1 skein ... it might not be so for everyone. For example if u had 4 skeins and I believe your price is 150ddk. Well sometimes our brain does not register that it's for one especially if shopper is from another country where u brain sees 4 skeins and let's say 150 dollars. Unfortunately it is always your job to make it as clear as possible not only so u don't get bad review but also that u customer is not disappointed and will return. So maybe adding somewhere price per one skein would not hurt. Obviously that particular customer miss understood u. Sending hugs. You are doing wonderful job

Your website is very clear about ordering skeins. Obviously the negative person has either never ordered yarn on line as on every site you must state the amount you want or they don't know that hand dyed yarn is pricier. How could you make any money if you were selling 4 skeins for the price of 1. So silly.
I am very sorry about your negative review and feel that it was not deserved. Clearly if one has any common sense at all one would know that a price point for say your BFL sock yarn is the price for a single skein. I think the intent of the review was mean-spirited and that she simply wanted a lot for practically nothing. I would not take this one to heart. In future you will know when or if a concern is warranted and if you should take steps to correct it. In the meantime you and your business are enhancing the beauty and joy in our knitting world. No need to change your website, it is all very clear. The woman who gave the 1 star review is acting out of inexperience and ignorance. Of course it makes sense to show several skeins of yarn in the photo. This sort of thing happens when dealing with the public... I suggest you try not to take it to heart.

As a business owner, you must expect the unexpected and understand that you cannot please everyone. Some people may not have experience in navigating different website presentations.

My daughter has her own dog grooming business and I know how devastating a bad review can be when you work so hard to make everything positive. I love your new base and would gladly purchase some but I’m in the US and the shipping is more than the yarn. I know it’s not your fault but just a reality 😢
I live in the USA and have occasionally purchased products from a potter located in the UK. However, this pottery also maintains warehouse space in the United States, so my orders are shipped from their warehouse in Pennsylvania. This means I don't incur international shipping charges, just normal domestic charges. I have no idea what is required to set up and maintain such an arrangement. But if I were a European merchant with enough customers in the USA, I would definitely find out how that arrangement works. Several folks here have mentioned that they would love to order Camilla's yarn, but shipping charges rule that out. I'm in that same boat.

My purchases from that pottery in the UK have gone so well because they have a USA shipping site that I thought you'd be interested in looking into it. sorry, just heard you talk about that bad review. no, that is not you. omg - i don't even know what to say about this. Perhaps the person was hoping you would contact them and give them 3 free skeins. i ran a small business for 2 years during the pandemic, and i have to warn you, once you open yourself up to reviews, you will get all kinds of feedback that isn't warranted. some times i got good negative feedback that enabled me to fix things, but often it was people just trying to get free stuff or a refund. i am really sorry that happened to you. No one thinks they are getting 4 skeins of yarn for ~$30.
That bad review you got... I don't think it was written in good faith. I am not a regular customer of online shops at, say, etsy shops or the likes, but I've purchased some things sometimes and I've browser through reviews sometimes, and in my limited experience I've seen such reviews. Including complaints precisely like the one you got, in an instance where each product page in the shop explicitly says: the photo of several skeins is to show the color better, you get the amount you purchase. In shops that sell stock yarn that is photographed on a cone, might be quite a large one, and is sold by a unit of, say, 100 grams, they explicitly say you don't get the cone on the photo, you get the amount you order. I've seen complaints - oh, the photo showed so much yarn and I got so little. One complaint I saw even stated that they got 50 g, to which the seller said, we send you the 100 g you ordered, not 50 g, and how this works is written in all caps at the top of the product page. Once I even saw a negative review that said "item not received", the seller had responded with "what are you talking about, we met in person and I delivered the item to you?", to which there was no response from the unhappy customer. I am sure the customer was unhappy about something but clearly not the thing he/she had written. You can't prevent such things no matter what you do. Perhaps add a note that the photograph includes several skeins just to show the color better but the price is per skein, although I don't think it's needed... but just have it there. Other than this... I am sure it feels and is very bad but occasionally such things will happen no matter what you do.

I think it’s unreasonable to have given you a bad review suggesting misrepresentation of the number of skeins. It is very clear that the price is per one skein and the majority of yarn dyers/suppliers show more than one skein in their pictures. If people read that negative review it will reflect more negatively on the person leaving it than it will on your business. It’s just a shame it pulls the overall average rating down. With regards to patreon- I follow a number of knitwear podcasts/vlogs and it would be too difficult to decide which to support financially and too expensive to contribute to all so it would not be something that I would commit to. I understand why you might want to do it though.

That is unbelievable that anyone would think they get four skeins...first of all for the price of one and second of all where they have to choose the number of skeins they want. That is clearly someone just looking to find fault...don't change anything!!!! As for what brings me joy when I am knitting...I really enjoy a bit of lace. I find that when I am knitting the same thing over and over, I get easily distracted so I like it when I have to pay attention to a pattern. I tend to forget about everything else except my project. Regarding the difficulty of finding testers for the larger sizes, I've seen at least one designer do the following. On the pattern page she lists all the sizes that she developed (I think) but the published pattern contains the sizes up to whatever was the largest one actually tested, or at least that's how I understood her note. Then she begins the pattern description (on the pattern page, not in the actual pattern) with a note that if somebody wants to knit the pattern in one of the yet unpublished sizes to contact her, they get the pattern for free, she's finally found her tester so afterwards she can publish the pattern with this size included and everybody wins. When I first saw this in a pattern description I thought it was a very smart solution, since then I've seen it in other patterns and I have the feeling that it was always the same designer but I simply can't remember who it was right now, and I might be mistaken and I may have seen this approach used by more than one person.
Anyways, just giving you an idea. Now off to watch the rest of the episode :)

Lovely yarns as always! Oh come on! How did someone not know she was only getting 1 skein. When you order clothes online the model is wearing a whole outfit. Does she think she would get everything in the photo? I always reach out to a company if I have an issue before leaving a less than perfect review. Usually the issue is resolved and then the review is a 5 star experience

I visited your website again for the purpose of seeing if a customer could reasonably misunderstand how many skeins of yarn they were ordering for the price stated. Short answer is yes, and here's why:
For each yarn for sale, there is a photo showing at least two skeins of yarn side-by-side. Most of the photos I saw showed just two skeins. The price appears under the photo, but the price does not include the words "per skein". While most shoppers might understand that the price is only for one skein, it is not unreasonable for a customer to think that they would be getting what's shown in the photo for the price stated below the photo.
The simplest way to remedy this ambiguity would be to add the words "per skein" along with the monetary amount stated. If the item for sale is a bundle, then of course the words "per bundle" would apply, and so forth.

I haven't had the financial opportunity to purchase your yarn but I can say, the review is based on User Error. This may have been a first time buyer of hand dyed yarn because most knitters know you can't buy a bundle of yarn for 29.00. Your site is very clear and I compared to three other sites of hand dyers, and they sometimes have 10+ skeins of yarn in the background and one skein up close. I would not expect to receive more than one skein for $29. I hope you get tons of positive reviews because you deserve it. Not only that, customers should always take the opportunity to contact the seller to resolve or answer inquiries. She should have asked before she purchased. Sorry, not sorry, for getting on the soapbox but it boggles my mind when people don't think before they speak.

Please do not change your website. It is very clear. Your yarns are unique and show the care and effort you put into the colors and yarn quality. I think next to the price you write each on the web site. But no it isn’t you but we all think differently. So it is good to cover all the bases. It is good to look at other sites to see how they sell there yarn. Do they have more than one skein in the picture. Do they say each next to the price. I personally think I would expect just one skein.

I am so sorry u had bad review. It can sting especially if they did not give u a chance to respond. As for changing I know many here said no need o change and while for fellow knitter / yarn lover it is clear that it's 1 skein ... it might not be so for everyone. For example if u had 4 skeins and I believe your price is 150ddk. Well sometimes our brain does not register that it's for one especially if shopper is from another country where u brain sees 4 skeins and let's say 150 dollars. Unfortunately it is always your job to make it as clear as possible not only so u don't get bad review but also that u customer is not disappointed and will return. So maybe adding somewhere price per one skein would not hurt. Obviously that particular customer miss understood u. Sending hugs. You are doing wonderful job

Clearly if one has any common sense at all one would know that a price point for say your BFL sock yarn is the price for a single skein. I think the intent of the review was mean-spirited and that she simply wanted a lot for practically nothing. I would not take this one to heart. In future you will know when or if a concern is warranted and if you should take steps to correct it. In the meantime you and your business are enhancing the beauty and joy in our knitting world. My daughter has her own dog grooming business and I know how devastating a bad review can be when you work so hard to make everything positive. I love your new base and would gladly purchase some but I’m in the US and the shipping is more than the yarn. I know it’s not your fault but just a reality 😢
I live in the USA and have occasionally purchased products from a potter located in the UK. However, this pottery also maintains warehouse space in the United States, so my orders are shipped from their warehouse in Pennsylvania. This means I don't incur international shipping charges, just normal domestic charges. I have no idea what is required to set up and maintain such an arrangement. But if I were a European merchant with enough customers in the USA, I would definitely find out how that arrangement works. Several folks here have mentioned that they would love to order Camilla's yarn, but shipping charges rule that out. I'm in that same boat.

Perhaps the person was hoping you would contact them and give them 3 free skeins. i ran a small business for 2 years during the pandemic, and i have to warn you, once you open yourself up to reviews, you will get all kinds of feedback that isn't warranted. some times i got good negative feedback that enabled me to fix things, but often it was people just trying to get free stuff or a refund. i am really sorry that happened to you. No one thinks they are getting 4 skeins of yarn for ~$30.

That bad review you got... I don't think it was written in good faith. I am not a regular customer of online shops at, say, etsy shops or the likes, but I've purchased some things sometimes and I've browser through reviews sometimes, and in my limited experience I've seen such reviews. Including complaints precisely like the one you got, in an instance where each product page in the shop explicitly says: the photo of several skeins is to show the color better, you get the amount you purchase.
In shops that sell stock yarn that is photographed on a cone, might be quite a large one, and is sold by a unit of, say, 100 grams, they explicitly say you don't get the cone on the photo, you get the amount you order. I've seen complaints - oh, the photo showed so much yarn and I got so little. One complaint I saw even stated that they got 50 g, to which the seller said, we send you the 100 g you ordered, not 50 g, and how this works is written in all caps at the top of the product page.
Once I even saw a negative review that said "item not received", the seller had responded with "what are you talking about, we met in person and I delivered the item to you?", to which there was no response from the unhappy customer. I am sure the customer was unhappy about something but clearly not the thing he/she had written.
You can't prevent such things no matter what you do. Perhaps add a note that the photograph includes several skeins just to show the color better but the price is per skein, although I don't think it's needed... but just have it there. Other than this... I am sure it feels and is very bad but occasionally such things will happen no matter what you do.
I agree. There will always be people who will complain. I just wanted to make sure, that my website is clear. And for that your feedback was helpful.

I think it’s unreasonable to have given you a bad review suggesting misrepresentation of the number of skeins. It is very clear that the price is per one skein and the majority of yarn dyers/suppliers show more than one skein in their pictures. If people read that negative review it will reflect more negatively on the person leaving it than it will on your business. It’s just a shame it pulls the overall average rating down. With regards to patreon- I follow a number of knitwear podcasts/vlogs and it would be too difficult to decide which to support financially and too expensive to contribute to all so it would not be something that I would commit to. I understand why you might want to do it though.
