I was literally reading this as he was doing it and now I can't stop laughing 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You know I almost thought you were exaggerating when you wrote that as I started reading it, but no it's pretty much spot on. Timing is everything with comments like this I guess.

I'm a test engineer. I do safety and efficacy testing of medical devices. I've done this for 25 years along with design and development. Before that I worked in aerospace and semiconductor equipment. Testing and experimenting are my life's work. Whenever I hear a flat earther say "do your own research" I want to scream at the screen (and often do). To them, "research" means staring at a phenomenon and seeing whatever they expect to see through confirmation bias. Where, I want to ask them, is your test protocol, your negative control, your positive control? Has your protocol been peer reviewed before you start? Is it blinded? Double blinded? What data are you collecting? Using what instruments? Are they calibrated? Are the calibrations traceable? What statistical methods are you using to analyze your data? What limits are you putting on your results? This all takes time. Lots of time. I recently finished testing a batch of laparoscopes (the metal-tubed optics that attach to a camera and let doctors look and operate inside a patient without cutting them open). The tests took over six months, with all the reviews and controls. The report took some time to write and then nearly half a year to be reviewed for medical technique and statistical correctness. Yes, it's incredibly convoluted and time consuming, but it's why we have the safest and most effective medical tools in the world. I have to take my job very seriously. Peoples' lives are at stake. This hangs over me every day leading to considerable performance pressure, but it's also immensely satisfying knowing that everything that goes out the door is the best humanly possible. When I see human detritus like this talk about "research" I can only shake my head and wonder why our society continues to tolerate them. At least we get a funny Sci-Man Dan video out of it.
My dude, flers' head would explode before they finish reading your first paragraph ... No, you're doing the wrong research. You've been listening to all those thousands of experts and scientists with hundreds of years of experiments and scientific knowledge behind them. Instead you should be listening to this shouty crane driver. He knows how it all really works...
This is 7th grade stuff. I know, I taught it. My students grasped that quite quickly. We did do an experiment with a globe, a lamp and a ball for the moon. Why is this so hard for some people?
Took me all of ten seconds to search, "Why do we not have a lunar eclipse every full moon?" and got the answer that explains his observations. That level of research is too intense for some.
That’s your issue. You’re putting a logical question in the search bar. You have to type “conspiracy theory lunar eclipse SHOULD be every night cycle” to get the right answer, because clearly that’s what this guy did. That or he went to page 4 or 5 in the google search page, which is around where the crazy starts.

Yesterday we got shown the first image of the black hole at the center of our galaxy, Sagittarius A*, a truly historic milestone in Astronomy and an amazing scientific achievement. It makes it so difficult to choose who to trust. Dan with his fancy book learning or the toothless man rambling about research? What a strange little man and the toothless guy is even stranger. Kidding! I've been on this earth in the same city for 54 years. There has been a full moon at least once a month but I've only seen a total solar eclipse once (23/10/76 Melbourne). Haha! I've proved the toothless pirate wrong. Not that he'd believe me but c'est la vie 🙂

After long consideration I chose that pendulum "experiment" as my all-time favorite. OMG! I mean the laser pointer and scanning the sun's temperature were darn good, but the idea that he expected that pendulum to start moving by itself is so funny and sad at the same time that it takes the top prize. Thanks for bringing this "collection" together Mr. Sensible.
People regularly discredit flat earth nonsense because they bend their own truth around a narrative. These people are nuts and should not be believed. What they say makes no sense. With that being said, believing them when they say they have "proof" in the bible also doesn't make sense. Just like any other source they use, they twist the bible into their own narrative. I've been a Christian my entire life, I find science fascinating and as for the Bible, the earth is round. LOL All that just to say, please do not pick and chose when to believe flat earthers. They're always wrong, all the time, about everything.
@C L S The compilation that is the Bible has a dozen or so contributors. It's not intellectually honest to say "a goat herder" wrote the Bible. Furthermore, the Bible has never claimed to be a book of Science so your question is... silly.
Hey Dan, the fact that in the southern hemisphere the moon and the stars are "upside down" compared to how we see it in the UK is proof positive that the earth is a sphere. No other shape can explain this and would never happen on a flat earth, where everyone would see the moon the same way up. Surprised this point doesn't come up more often in debunking flat earth content.
I've often thought it would be an interesting demonstration to have people at the same longitude in the northern and southern hemispheres simultaneously photograph the full moon while on a telephone conference call. Then share the photos. How to explain the apparent inversion on a flat earth model?
Not to mention the reversal of apparent rotation between stars in the far northern hemisphere and those in the far southern hemisphere. If you stand in the far north, facing north and look straight up, the stars will appear to rotate counterclockwise, rising to your right and setting to your left. If you do the same thing in the far south facing south, the stars will rise on your left and set on your right, clockwise. This would only be possible on the surface of a spheroid body. Don't get me wrong, though; the stars will still be rising in the east and setting in the west, but the "apparent rotation" will be reversed because your head will be pointing in the opposite direction. This proves quite conclusively that the Earth is a spheroid. 🤣
@@alynch9846 Funny when in most cases debunking is targeting larger names like business startups, prominent people like Elon Musk, etc. We don't know the stability of the person, but we do know they believe in damaging claims that spread too easily when left unchecked. @@Bendigo1 I mean the bible technically leaves open the shape of the earth. A flat earth would also provide an issue for some parts of it. A flood would require a dome, otherwise the water would just go over the icewall and leave the planar earth. And the bible does also say that the sun sets behind the horizon, not that it vanishes into the dark. That is why young earth creationists to accept the earth is round because it fits better with the bible, they still think the earth is only 6000 years old, but it is a sphere at least.
@@rudolfquerstein6710 There are just too many metaphors taken literally and literal meanings taken metaphorically. The Bible is left too open to interpretation to be taken literally. I was raised Christian and still see value in what the Bible teaches, but figured out long ago that I will never take anything in it literally like too many people do. There are too many contradictions and vague meanings behind many writings. The main issue is that it was written by man, and man is flawed, and easily corrupted or manipulative. I think the Bible was written to try to get people to act a certain way and to try to explain the unexplained. I do believe there may have been some things that occurred that even science can not explain and that it is possible that what early civilization saw as Gods or angels could have been either from another planet with or more advanced people from this planet. Either that, or they had some REALLLLY good hallucinogenic "medication" since I can't say the 'd' word without the comment being blocked.
At best, the bible is chock full of stories, several of which contain compelling lessons on virtue and morality. Some of the lessons, on the other hand, are downright hateful, misogynistic, or racist. Which if you play on console, you could really benefit from. I can also report to you that while it’s true that I do know adults who are completely illiterate here, those people could absolutely bury you under the immense weight of their knowledge, wisdom and skills in pretty much anything you can think of. But no worries because unlike how I’m talking right now, they, along with the rest of us, are humble enough that after burying you with the aforementioned intellectual and mechanical know how, they aren’t going to be a dick to you or rub it in your face. The person constructs any excuse for their error rather than accept responsibility. Examples include blaming the error on "just a typo" or "not my fault, a spelling checker did it". The overlooked reality is that we don't identify explicitly the person's mistake. -5.0 to -2.0 Antisocial abreaction. The person launches a "justified" attack on the source of correct information. At mild levels the person may use sarcasm and insult. At psychopathic levels -4 to -5 the person exhibits paranoid fantasies such as conspiracy theories about education, and instances of Godwin's Law (insults about grammar "Nazis") are too obvious. @@drdave8607 I'm rather skeptical of that. I find it hard to believe someone so ignorant being able to capture clear photos/videos of a full moon. I've tried it myself with consumer level camera equipment and it's quite difficult, especially getting the exposure correct.
@@clementj With a tripod and a reasonable zoom/telephoto lens, a modern auto exposure digital camera should find it a piece of cake. I say "modern" and "digital" because the main issue is longish exposures and shake. Current digital cameras can choose a "film speed" (ISO - aka sensitivity of the photo sensor) many times that of ordinary film, and mean you can shoot fast enough to compensate for minor shake. Secondly, you want a zoom/telephoto strong enough to make the moon as much of the frame as possible, so that the whole image is on average as bright as possible, and the autofocus has enough image to set the focus right. And oh, by the way, the exposure setting to get the moon right is about exactly the same exposure setting you need in normal daylight on earth. So if all the settings on the camera are manual, set them the same level as you'd normally take pictures. You'll be within an f-stop or better. My camera is a Sony A6000 4/3 mirrorless digital with extremely fast autofocus, and the "full auto" mode will change ISO (it can go to 43,000), aperture and exposure suitable for the image. With an 800mm manual lens (or with doubler, 1600mm), I just open the lens up wide open, manually focus, and let the camera decide the ISO and exposure time. Takes great photos of the moon even hand-held.

G'day SciManDan, Considering Flat Earthers can't Understand the Solar System in 3D it is no wonder they are totally Bamboozled & can't understand when a 3D Description is transposed to 2D Drawings for a Book. It is the same reason why they can't understand it is impossible to have a 2D photo 'showing the Whole 3D Earth', I seriously had to explain that is Impossible to Gleem because he kept repeating "Why isn't there a Photo of the Whole Globe Earth?"
If you get them to grasp the idea that a 3D object is only visible from one side at a time, they might ask you for a (non-composite) photo of one side of the Earth. When you show them one, they will invariably claim it's fake.

Dan, as one of your only pilot friends, I suggest you don't start videos by telling people it's about to get bumpy. Not because it scares the passengers, no. You're encouraging flat-earthers to convert to bumpy-earthers.
Just to put some numbers to it: When the moon passes "behind" the earth at the max deviation of 5.2°, it would be off line by 34440 km The earth has a radius of about 6370km. Due to the slight angle (because the sun is much larger than earth) the umbra at a distance of 380000km would be smaller. To be more precise, the diameter of the umbra at the distance of the moon is only about 9225km (so the umbra has a radius of about 4612km). The diameter of the penumbra at the distance of the moon is about 16318km. So since the tilted orbit of the moon does not always pass exactly at the extreme deviation behind the earth, what percentage of the full orbit of the moon would cause an eclipse / partial eclipse and and what percentage would cause a full moon. We can further distinguish between an actual full moon (fully outside the penumbra) and a "dimmed" full moon (outside the umbra but inside or overlapping the penumbra). So what do we get? First lets work with the radius of the umbra (4612km) and penumbra(8159km) and the radius of the moon (3747km). We only get a full eclipse when the moon is fully inside the umbra. So the max deviation from the center can only be 4612km - 3747km == 865km. That's only about 2.5% if the time. When the moon is touching the outside of the umbra, the full moon is illuminated. For this the max deviation from the center line has to be 4612km + 3747km == 8359km or more. Any deviation smaller than that would result in a partial eclipse. A partial eclips happens when the umbra does overlap with the moon, but only partially. This happens roughly 22% of the time. Of course the amount of partial eclipse varies depending on the amount of overlap. The smaller the overlap, the faster it would be over as the umbra is just skimming over the moon slightly. When the moon is touching the ourside of the penumbra, the moon is full and at full brightness. This happens when the deviation is 8159km + 3747km == 11906km or larger. So this happens about 65% of the time. When the moon is inside the penumbra but outside the umbra we get a dimmed full moon. The brightness again varies depending on how much overlap there is. Or in other words how much sun the moon "sees". This happens about 11% of the time. Note that we only talk about the exact hour when the moon passes behind the earth. The moon moves at about about 3600km/h it its orbit (about 1km/s). So any potential overlap with the umbra / penumbra only lasts at max 4.5h/6.6h and has the peak in the middle, Since any overlap is a gradual process, you probably wouldn't really notice the "dimming" as the moon slowly enters the penumbra. Keep in mind it takes about 2h for the moon to move from the point where it's touching the outside of the penumbra to the point where it's completely inside the penumbra. So this is a slow gradient dimming and given clouds and other varying atmospheric conditions it would be difficult to actually spot that dimming. Maybe with a timelapse you could actually see it. Though as mentioned above, a dimmed full moon only happens about 22% of the time and the amount of "dimming" also depends on the amount of overlap. Just in case you don't get how I came up with 34440km. It's just sin(5.2°) * 380000km. Note for the percentage approximations I simply assumed a linear relationship which of course is not correct as the deviation follows the sine of the phase angle. So to get the proper percentages one has to determine the actual deviation angle required for a certain deviation and plot the percentages onto the full circular orbit of the moon. Though this would actually reduce the chances for a full moon slightly as the sine has the largest "velocity" at the turning point which is the perfect head-on full eclipse while at the max deviation the sine changes the slowest.
It´s kinda funny how with globe model we can do all sorts of calculations a predictions that work (like predictions of solar and lunar eclipses and other similar events), while I have yet to see flat earther made a single calculation based on their model, let alone one that would actually be proven true.

@@jacksonmacd Good one!

@@Bendigo1 I mean the bible technically leaves open the shape of the earth. A flat earth would also provide an issue for some parts of it. 0.0 to 3.0 Normal to subnormal ethic level. The person either does not comprehend, "chooses" not to comprehend or "chooses" not to care about their error.
-1.0 to 0.0 Self delusory ethic level. The person constructs any excuse for their error rather than accept responsibility. Examples include blaming the error on "just a typo" or "not my fault, a spelling checker did it". Persons below 0.0 do not voluntarily correct their mistake.
-2.0 to -1.0 Triggered abreaction. The person expresses emotional tension in a complaint about having been corrected.

@@drdave8607 I thought the same thing about his photos. I have some excellent moon photos on my channel under the community tab.

I seriously had to explain that is Impossible to Gleem because he kept repeating "Why isn't there a Photo of the Whole Globe Earth?"

Just to put some numbers to it: When the moon passes "behind" the earth at the max deviation of 5.2°, it would be off line by 34440 km
The earth has a radius of about 6370km.
